A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO REDUCE THE CANCER BURDEN

THE MAKNA’S PERIWINKLE PROJECT

Initiated in 2020, the MAKNA Periwinkle Project aims at promoting MAKNA’s signature logo, the Periwinkle Flower, as the symbol of hope for cancer patients and to instill values in children to live a meaningful life by doing good to others, like the Periwinkle Flower does in treating cancer.

The project focused on activities engaging students at the selected Sekolah Kurang Murid (SKM) nationwide in every state. Selected SKMs were given Periwinkle pots/seeds to create a Periwinkle Garden/ Gallery/Corner in three months, along with face masks and hand sanitizers.

5 finalists from 5 states were selected to participate at the national level to compete for the winning prize of RM 3,000. The finalists were SK Mata Ayer (Kelantan), SK Aur Gading (Pahang), SK Juaseh Tengah (Negeri Sembilan), SK Nanga Serau (Sarawak) and SK Mansiat (Sabah). After careful deliberation, the panel of jury reached a decision to select two winners, SK Nanga Serau and SK Mansiat, as both achieved a similar score.
