Studio X - Parametric Collaborations Following the submissions in the first semester the studio continues to explore the notion of housing as a result of design agendas that can be combined to deliver an outcome that can be implemented either as a Masterplan, a city intervention, a tower or other large scale development. The students have been asked to form teams based on shared sensibilities and work ethics and to propose a thesis that underlines the team’s design interests and combined agenda. Each team will present the design work on both a conceptual and technical level. Students are required to develop modelling and parametric skills, to be able to precisely render scenes using real materials and control issues of ambience, colour and construction with equal mastery and should develop ecological strategies based on recent technological advances in rapid prototyping and programming.

Our proposal is an artificial ecology, a village dedicated to leisure habitation that fulfill the needs of repause and entertainment dedicated to 21st century society lifestyle in highly populated and demanding cities. As Federico Soriano highlights, our society of work has mutated into a society of leisure time, of entertainment. Continuous schedules, even in schools and universities, a forty hour working week, the hybridization of sports, culture and amusement with their commercial benefits is joint symptoms of the invasion of play in our lives and work. ‘I don’t know if today’s home will have work, but it surely will have entertainment.’ The proposal finds the site in Tenerife, as a metaphore between sea and mountain, our proposal is situated between dream and reality, nature and technology, a surreal approach which is augumenting the direct experience within the authenticity of the place. Our approach is challenging the balance of the cultural and natural qualities of a specific site within 21st century conditions of habitation, culture, life-style and technology. Our design is developed through means of algorithmic design methods in order to develop ecological strategies and space subdivision bassed on recent technological advances.

Studio X - Collective Residential Developments The research brief for the first semester was to design a concept villa for the 21st century. In highly urbanized, highly mobile societies the house becomes an issue demanding further research and investigation, where the consequences of a materialistic society have devolved the idea of house to that of property. Yet, the house is where everyone’s life is formed and where everyone forms the home based on the living behaviours that stem out of social, family relationships etc. The studio’s interest in the way a villa can become a formal expression for, one or a group of lifestyles and values. This close relationship can be family, sexual, occasional, and professional. A villa is a culmination and the distillation of architectonic notions within a changing societal set-up. The design of the villa will respond to the contextual content. The responsiveness of the design to the climate, the views, the site and the urban environment or lack of, around it is crucial to the task of this research. The villa must be an individual, strange unusual responsive to its environment, innovative and not complicit or conformist seeking innovation through the enhancement and expression of those elements that make it unique for a particular life scenario.

3.1. OPEN AIR VILLA // BIOCLIMATIC APPROACH The project is dedicated to Yosri Fouda, Egyptian editor and presenter, which acts as a neutral actor, delivering the reality he investigates. Starting from his character and Egyptian culture, the project is focusing on fundamental energy exchanges between villa and human body. In this terms, the exchanches are residing in the envelope, and as such ‘envelope’ becomes coincident with ‘boundary’ which then becomes implicitly coincident with ‘mediation.’ The focus of the projest is to design according to energy fluxes in order to achieve a great balance and comfort between human body, environment and villla. 3.2. X-HOUSE // MATERIAL BEHAVIOR

As a clients I had to come up with a character of two persons, they are couple, they travel a lot, very active and busy. So my legend is: Mr.&Mrs.X met in New York in Columbia University were they were studying, after graduation they got married and moved to Singapore. He works as an engineer at DP Architect and she is a professor in National University if Singapore. This villa should be a place where they could forget about their business, relax, in one word i had to designe a heaven for them. Basic idea of the house was to grow the construction system, not to build in usual way. As a material has been chosen a bamboo "bambusa tulda" which is spread in the region, it can grow 22m. per month and meets all the requirements of the project. The bamboo seeds are planted in individual pots and then master have to monitor the growth of the stems and guide it in the right direction.

3.3. FRANCISZEK STAROWIEYSKI VILLA // SURREALISM APPROACH The villa is a secondary house that has function as a house for holiday, a place for work, and a runaway place. Franciszek Starowieyski, as a client for this villa project is a Polish artist who really famous with his dark surreal poster. Like his artwork, his character as a human also really strong, unique, and mysterious. With this opportunities, villa for a Franciszek Statorieyski should reflects his character as his environment which is surreal, full of fear, strange, grotesque but at the same time elegant, smart and extraordinary. This all specific character composed and applied on villa properties such as architectural detail, material, floor, wall, ceiling, and so on and so forth. Without forget the function about a villa to accommodate his needs as an artist, so this villa accommodate a big studio for searching an idea equipped by all primary needs like bed, pantry, bathroom, library ,dining room, and living room, a big hall for public to come and see his painting activity, an exhibition space for his artworks, and a collection room for his hobby as an art collector. After all it is a project about how a relationship between a space, architectural style and the user generated by surrealism and baroque ambience.

The project was developed for Jean Michel Jarre. Is a French composer, performer and music producer. He is a pioneer in the electronic, ambient and New Age genres, and known as an organiser of outdoor spectacles of his music featuring lights, laser displays, and fireworks. The idea for the villa was desided to use a laser light to perform durin the night and day time. To subdivide a space in particular geometry to get different options. And also to translate amotions and filling of his music.

4. THESIS PROPOSAL In order to collaborate the specific topic related to the studio task, we propose an artificial ecological habitation in an attractive touristic

place, Tenerife, which present intersting properties for human living and observation such as material, space, nature, sun position and culture. These qualities of the spaces are proposed to be augumented through artificial means, in order to work together as a synergic system of life through advanced architecture approarch.

The relationship between human and artificial properties, especially comfortability and atmosphere of spaces, tectonic surface aesthetic and how technology develope to support and make people life easier. Besides all integration of space, geometry, architectural elements, texture, and technical part of the building, we inject the spirit of the habitat by the local fairy tales and playing with architectural experience by the meaningful architectural properties for the physical part and by the laser to bring another experience during the night. The goal of the project : 1. As the geometry and form finding to be based on the analysis of the natural condition integrating the building system to the nature. 2. Continuous line aesthetic shaping the houses, entrances, windows, architectural elements. 3. Adaptive material of canopy to the environment, adjusting sun exposure controlled by the technological system. 4. Laser as advanced technology to develope architecturalul means to form interactive geometry at night. 5. Multiplicity of laser beam interpretated as a way to subdivide space visually. 6. Integrated to the fairy tales imagination, the laser role in achieving poetic space. 7. Association of geometry, fairy tales of Tenerife and surreal appeal. 8. Visual effect produced by the material and laser pattern. 9. Exploration of manipulation of geometry by conscious and subconscious process.

Site location: village on Tenerife, Lomito de Llano, situeted close to the main city, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The site is characterized by typical Mediteranean architecture, with teraces and white thick walls. The natural landscape enclose this area which has black volcanic stones, specific vegitation, landscape variation, rich in fauna and flora, unfortunatly affected by human activity.

We bring The Tenerife Fairy Tales to our project in poetic manner. As a touristic place, this unique atmosphere become one of magnetic area which serve the habitation with the story of Golden Apple, the fruits that can make human to be eternal. Based on Surrealism agenda, to explore human imagination through mixture of reality and dream to generate the form. It is has an intention to get strong geometry which is original and unique. Bending Light & Color Alan Jaras is an artist/scientist who since his retirement as a industrial research scientist and microscopist has focused his energy on bridging art and science together with his research "to gain a deeper understanding of how these patterns form and how to make images that hopefully can be considered a form of art." Using only film, and without a lens on the camera, in what Alan says could still be described as a photogram, he shoots a targeted light source through and a piece of art glass or formed plastic to capture the created refraction patterns. The results, what could be described as "images of strange microscopic or deep sea creatures or even galaxies forming in deep space," pull at the viewers perception of digital and analog, art and science, all the while expanding our imaginations and understanding of the world around us.

Digital sculpture: New art exhibit bends light, immerses viewers An innovative new form of high-tech installation art from British artist Anthony McCall is on display at an exhibition that opened today in Berlin and will run through the end of the Olympics in August. Called Five Minutes of Pure Sculpture, the exhibit brings together seven of McCall's installations that use projectors and light manipulation to create digital sculptures that viewers can literally walk into. ArtDaily has a great description: "The show also marks the first time McCall's vertical and horizontal pieces are shown together. Originally he projected horizontally onto a wall, reminiscent of the viewing situation in the cinema. More recently, however, the artist has directed the projector, mounted at a height of ten meters in the ceiling, onto the floor. These cones of light can be circumnavigated by the viewer and thus move more fully into the sphere of sculpture. In addition, the works open up an interactive and social space. Spectators can explore these projections not only by moving around them on the outside, but also by freely moving within and through the forms themselves."
