Home is where the paradise is. Working hard all day along, you get mentally absorbed and physically tired. Obviously you need a casual, loose dress that you can wear and roam around doing all sorts of house hold work. Japanese traditional dress kimono would be a great choice to wear at home, instead of regular night wears. The word "kimono" means a "thing to wear". Kimono are T-shaped, straight-lined robes worn so that the hem falls to the ankle, with attached collars and long, wide. These fancy kimonos are wrapped around the body, always with the left side over the right and tied at the back by a sash called an obi. Traditionally kimonos for women are made up of single bolt fabric called a tan. Entire tan is utilized is making one kimono. There are four main strips of fabric in a finished kimono—two for covering the body and two for forming the sleeves—with additional smaller strips for forming the front panels and collar. Since the entire tan is used in the finished garment without cutting, retailoring can be easily done to fit the kimono to another person. Silk, silk brocade, silk crepes and satin weaves are used to make kimono and obi. But in order to satisfy modern needs of less care new fancy kimonos are fabrics such as rayon, cotton sateen, cotton, polyester and other synthetic fibres. Such fancy kimonos are less expensive.


There are different types of kimonos for women that are available in market: FURISODE Furisode means swinging sleeves. These kimonos are printed with colourful patterns that cover the entire garment. HOMONGI Homongi means visiting wear. It is characterized by patterns that flow over the shoulders, and sleeves. IROMUJI These are single-coloured kimono that can be worn by women. KOMON Komon means “fine pattern". It is characterized by small, repeated pattern throughout the garment. This style is more casual. EDO KOMON Edo komon is a type of kimono characterized by tiny dots arranged in dense patterns that form large designs. MOFUKU Mofukuis a unisexual kimono that can be worn by both men and women. IROTOMESODE Irotomesode is a single-color kimono, patterned only below the waistline. KUROTOMESODE It is a black kimono patterned only below the waistline. TSUKESAGE It has more modest patterns that cover a smaller area—mainly below the waist

UCHIKAKE The uchikake is either white or very colourful often with red as the base colour. One has all these styles to choose from. Such variety in style, patterns and colours are available that you surely would like to try out something new rather than that old and


boring night wears. And these kimonos are so easy to wash and wear that no extra care is needed for them, the comfort level is extremely high.
