Wireless LAN (WLAN) infrastructure attacks are today one of the most critical and immediate threats to enterprise networks. To make matters worse, the consumerization of Wi-Fi is flooding enterprises with personal Wi-Fi enabled smartphones and tablets, which are inadvertently tearing down the network security perimeter; organizations without an official WLAN are also at risk. AirTight WIPS provides enterprises with continuous and the most comprehensive protection against current and emerging wireless threats. Gartner Rated “Strong Positive” Consistently rated as the industry’s best wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS), AirTight is the only vendor to receive the highest “Strong Positive” rating from Gartner two years in a row in its annual MarketScope Report on Wireless LAN IPS. AirTight is also the only vendor to be rated at the top in all Gartner MarketScopes for Wireless LAN IPS till date. Ease of use, automatic device classification and accurate threat detection, and reliable threat prevention differentiate AirTight WIPS from other competing WIDS/WIPS solutions. Unmatched Wireless Protection Powered by AirTight’s portfolio of patented wireless intrusion detection and prevention techniques, AirTight WIPS provides 24/7 visibility into and complete control over wireless activity in the enterprise airspace.
Automatic device classification:
Using AirTight’s patented Marker Packet™ techniques, AirTight WIPS automatically and quickly classifies wireless devices detected in the airspace as Authorized, Rogue and External. As a result it eliminates false alarms and saves security administrators the effort of defining complex rules to identify rogue wireless devices or manually inspecting devices. This is unlike the error-prone device classification integrated into most WLAN solutions, which rely on slow and inconclusive CAM table lookups and MAC correlation, signatures, or passive wired network sniffing. Comprehensive Wireless Threat Detection AirTight WIPS provides the most comprehensive protection from all types of wireless threats, including Rogue APs, Soft APs, Honeypots, Wi-Fi DoS, Ad-hoc networks, Client misassociations, and Mobile hotspots. Security administrators are not required to define complex signatures for threat detection, which is the case with other WIDS/WIPS solutions. AirTight WIPS takes a fundamentally different approach by focusing on the fundamental threat vectors and vulnerabilities that form the building blocks for all known and emerging Wi-Fi hacking attacks and tools.

Automatic threat prevention:
Most wireless IDS/IPS solutions do not encourage automatic over theair prevention for fear of disrupting own or neighboring WiFi networks. Because of AirTight’s accuracy in distinguishing genuine wireless threats from neighboring WiFi devices, AirTight customers efectively and confidetly use its prevention capability to block any misuse of WiFi or violation of enterprise security policies. AirTight WIPS intelligently chooses from various patented overtheair and onwire prevention techniques depending on the type of wireless threat, and is capable of simultaneously blocking multiple threats across multiple channels in 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands.
Smart Forensics™ AirTight’s Smart Forensics simplifies wireless forensics by filtering out useless data and presenting only relevant and accurate forensics information in an easy to understand and actionable format. Smart Forensics summarizes all relevant information without the need for cumbersome trace collection and packet-level analysis.

Protecting the Mobile Edge
Secure Wi-Fi Usage
An increasing number of enterprises are relying on a mobile workforce that needs to stay connected with the corporate wherever they are on the road – hotels, airports, restaurants, coffee shops, or working from home or a remote office. With the bring your own device (BYOD) culture, the workforce is increasingly using a mix of corporate owned and personal devices – laptops, smartphones, and tablets.
Almost every laptop and mobile device today comes with Wi-Fi built-in. And with an omnipresence of Wi-Fi networks – at home, in the office and as hotspots on the road – Wi-Fi is becoming the primary mode for Internet access at the edge. AirTight Mobile can protect mobile devices by proactively blocking Wi-Fi misuse or Wi-Fi hacking attacks, such as Café Latte that target the Wi-Fi client. The AirTight Mobile agent can enforce policies such as:
As these devices move in and out of corporate premises, they connect to multiple known or trusted and untrusted networks. To avoid these devices from getting compromised wherever they go and in turn to prevent them from compromising, albeit inadvertently, the corporate network security, the security perimeter must move with these devices. Mobile Security Perimeter
■■
Block unsecure Wi-Fi connections, e.g., Open, WEP, Ad-hoc networks;
■■
Enforce VPN usage over an untrusted network;
■■
Delete unused SSIDs from the cached list to prevent inadvertent probing and Wi-Fi connections; and
■■
Control device behavior based on the context of location, e.g., home, work, away.
Location-sensitive policies can control the behavior of mobile endpoints differently depending on whether they are connected to the enterprise network, home network or an untrusted independent network. Mobile Connection Management AirTight Mobile gives you an “always on” mobile security perimeter. Once installed as a lightweight software agent, it gives IT security administrators the visibility into how the devices connect or behave and more importantly, enforce corporate security policies 24/7 wherever the devices go .
Secure Cloud-Managed Wi-Fi

Maximizing Your WLAN ROI AirTight Planner is a predictive WLAN planning tool that can help optimize your WLAN bill of material based on your Wi-Fi coverage, capacity and security requirements, reduce the need for extensive and costly RF site surveys, and simplify installation. Based on a comprehensive built-in knowledge base of sophisticated RF propagation models, RF characteristics of AirTight APs and sensors as well as third party equipment (e.g., other vendor APs, antennas, Wi-Fi client properties), and path loss values for common building materials, AirTight Planner can accurately estimate the number of APs (or sensors) required and recommend their optimal placement and configurations to meet your planning goals. RF Environment Modeling
AirTight Planner supports both indoor and outdoor RF planning. You can import floor maps as AutoCAD files (DWG and DXF) or image files (JPEG, GIF, BMP). With AutoCAD files, you can select the appropriate layers, relevant for RF planning, from within Planner. If using image files, Planner provides a repository of common building materials and a variety of objects that you can use to simply click and draw different types of walls on the floor map and model the RF environment in no time.

Fine-grained RF heat maps provide rich visualization of estimated WLAN coverage in terms of signal strength or RSSI (dBm), data rates (Mbps), redundancy or overlapping coverage, channel allocation, inter-AP interference and SNR overlaid on top of the floor plan. AirTight Planner can also automate the WLAN planning with its unique wizard and auto-AP placement feature. The wizard takes your planning goals, in terms of coverage (e.g., data rates) or capacity (e.g., expected no. of active users, application mix, per user throughput), as input. Using sophisticated algorithms, it first estimates if your planning goals can be realistically met based on the selected AP model and RF environment. It then calculates the number of APs required to meet the goals, automatically places them on the floor map and allocates an optimal set of channels to minimize adjacent channel and co-channel interference.

Wireless Security Planning The AirTight Planner is the only tool that also supports RF planning of wireless security sensors for wireless intrusion detection, prevention and location tracking. All AirTight WIPS sensor models are readily available, including AP/sensor combo modes of operation. On dragging and dropping the sensors on the floor map, the wireless security coverage can be visualized overlaid on the floor map. Fine-grained RF heat maps include detection and prevention coverage in terms of signal strength or RSSI (dBm) and redundancy or overlapping coverage for location tracking accuracy. Configurable WLAN and WIPS Planning Report
Integration with AirTight Wi-Fi and AirTight WIPS The AirTight Planner output file (SPM format) that contains all the information about a planning project can be imported into an AirTight management server used to manage AirTight Wi-Fi and WIPS.
Custom planning reports (MS Word) can be generated from AirTight Planner by selecting specific RF heat maps that you want to include. The planning report serves as the blueprint for the WLAN installation team, simplifying the deployment.
Secure Cloud-Managed Wi-Fi
Once imported, the SPM file is decoded and the floor map with placement of APs and sensors becomes readily available in the HTML5 management console. This makes it easy for the network administrator to drag and drop the AP and sensor icons in the console to their respective positions where they are installed in real life. Once an AirTight Wi-Fi and WIPS system is in place, the live RF heat maps for WLAN and WIPS coverage can be viewed overlaid on the floor map inside the HTML5 management console.

AirTight Wi-Fi Analytics – A Level Playing Field for Brick-and-Mortar Retailers For over a decade, online retailers have had the advantage of insightful analytics about their customers, e.g., which online promotions get most “clicks,” which product pages do they visit before making a purchase, what is the conversion rate, etc. Equipped with such business intelligence, online retailers have optimized customer engagement and acquisition, and grown their revenue at a much faster rate3 while their offline counterparts have had to deal with eroding customer loyalty4 and limping sales. But with AirTight Wi-Fi Analytics, brick-and-mortar retailers finally have a level playing field to compete and flourish with similar type of business intelligence about their consumers in and around the physical store. For instance, by understanding patterns of Wi-Fi usage and types of devices, retail IT teams could do a better job of network and bandwidth provisioning. The Operations departments could evaluate if certain sites need more staff on the floor at certain times of the day or days of the week. While the Marketing teams could do real-life A/B testing and check if a certain marketing campaign attracted more foot traffic and increased sales, or they can design targeted marketing (e.g., coupons, daily or weekly specials) to customers who have opted in to their marketing programs via social media.
