Museum Museums form an integral part of

urbanscapes. They are perhaps one of the most interactive building typologies .

Concept Moving from smaller spaces to seemingly larger spaces

With Kotturpuram in Chennai as its site ,the proposed building ,tries to maximise interaction not only amongst people but also people with their surroundings.

Views into the streets

The process of documenting a rural

settlement helped us understand life in a village. Our team documented the visual aspects of Ariakudi , a small village in Sivaganga district , Tamil Nadu.

2 Rural Documentation

*Documented by a team of four people . My role was to sketch and paint .

Rural School Set in the backdrop of rural

Ariakudi in Chettinad , the school was designed based on ‘ mitham ’ , the traditional central courtyard common to the area . The school was designed as a series of staggered courtyards , with the classrooms arranged around them.

Workshop

I attended a worskop conducted

by Ar. Durganand. Being a dying craft , the workshop aimed at creating awareness about Athangudi tiles that are popular in Chettinad .

Made using sustainable materials , they are best suited for hot tropical climates as they have a cooling effect. We also learnt sustainable construction of plywood furiture.

Day 1 :

Mixing colour and pouring in moulds , making Athangudi Tiles

Resort

Site Plan

Concept

A resort is a getaway from the monotony of our busy lives . The site near Pondicherry was surrounded by water on three vsides , thus making water an integral part of the planning.

Maximising views to the sea , and creating an ambience befitting a resort were the main challenges of the project

Main block Banquet Hall Amphitheatre Health club Spa Viewing deck Restaurant Villas

Pool view villas

Various contours were designed on the site. Each villa was placed on a raised mound ,while the main block was placed on a raised platform. This created views to the sea from every part of the resort .

DESIGN ENTRY 2013

Art Art can be a very powerful medium of expression. These are a few sketches I did. The medium always varied . A mixture of water colour , pen and ink , charcoal , and colour pencil .

Library One of our initial academic projects , the reading room was designed to provide an experience of being elgulfed by light on all sides . This was done by placing the reading rooms centrally in a light well , one above the other .

IT Building A project we designed in the 7th semester, the building was designed to provide the office-goer a constant connect with Nature. Sky bridges and grass mounds were incorporated to make the design more interesting. Equal focus was given to the recreational zones like the food court and the auditorium.
