YESTERDAY’S NEWS Furniture Design and Construction | Spring 2011 The chair design project offered a unique solution to a furniture design project. With a focus on
economy of

materials, attention to detail and a high visual intensity, this project serves as a seat for innovation, imagination, and use of accessible components. It is ideal for lounging, for children, or as a piece in a gallery, but

whatever the use, it is fully functional. Using the majority of a 24” x 54’ roll of chicken wire and hundreds of old and new

newspapers, I rolled 18” sections out
to individually stuff each octagonal aperture, creating “tufting” of these mini-cushions. The 18” sections were then stacked on top of one another to create the seat and one piece was folded back, generating the low back.

AVROKO SATELLITE OFFICE Senior Studio | Fall 2011 This was a conceptual design implementation for a satellite office of New York based design firm, AvroKO. I began the project with research on their identity through interviews with employees, and in reviewing articles written about their restaurants. AvroKO approaches their projects as though each one is a story which uniquely unfolds into a faceted spectrum of
and Americana“.
“history, storytelling
With this in mind, I then researched the assigned Cincinnati site with hopes of incorporating the
narrative of its history, primarily based in the butchery and steel industry. Cincinnati’s foundation of a gritty, graphic industrial scene ultimately led to the city’s success after the formation of the pristine, clean machine Proctor and Gamble. The transition from the grit of the city to the prosperity and monopoly of Proctor and Gamble was not won without tribulations or tensions between races, classes and ethnicities. Though uncomfortable and strained, these frictions yielded something sensational and prosperous. The office space for
