Real Wedding - Jessica Moritz & Jakob Krebs Wedding Date: 04/07/2012 Location: Malta
Wedding Details: Date and place of your wedding: Jessica says "We had a small civil ceremony in Berlin on the 23rd June 2012 and a destination wedding in Gozo (sister island of Malta) on the 4th of July 2012. Our Protestant ceremony was performed on the hill of Ta’ Mena Estate, Gozo, a reception followed at the same venue downstairs under a white marquee". When and how did you meet? We met 1999 at a lecture at the JFK Institute for North American Studies, Free University of Berlin. It was Jakob’s birthday but I didn’t notice him that day. The week after he strategically sat next to me J What were your first impressions, was it love at first sight? Jakob was def. love struck but I just wanted to be friends How and when did you know your partner was ‘the one’? 10 years later when we met again after a long time of not having seen or heard from each other. It felt like back in the old days… Jakob said something and I touched his hand, this time I was struck by lightning and thought.. this is the guy I’m going to marry one day . It then took another year for us to get together. Jakob lived in Berlin and I lived in Malta. The proposal, when was it and how did it go? Jakob got in touch with my sister (behind my back) to help and chose a ring for me. We all where in Malta at the time (I lived there and the other visited). My sister, her husband Joseph (a Maltese) and Jakob met up while I was working and went ring shopping. Thank God, Joseph was there to negotiate and my sister Sarah to hold his hand. He was so excited, I heard later. Then Jakob and I planned to go to Gozo for the day (7.7.2011). I was very reluctant because I came down with a cold but he really insisted we’d go.. I had no clue at this point. He said, Let’s go to Ta Mena and walk up the hill just to have a look at the view you love so much. I should have known by then but I was feeling so sick my mind was completely off. When we were half up the hill, Jakob went down on one knee and proposed. I was so surprised that I just asked: ‘does my mum know? Did you ask my dad?’ Until I finally said: YES YES YES!!! For the rest of the day I totally had forgotten about my cold and felt like I was sitting on a cloud. My sister and her husband already waited for our call to share the news and let me in on their scheme In the evening we went to eat and celebrate. Planning the wedding - how long did it take and who was involved? The planning took about a year. Anna Spiteri Borg & her husband Marvik from Malta Event Design helped us throughout the wedding planning. The amount of work they’ve done for us cannot ever be repaid. It started with a full day excursions to see all venues and ceremony options. They helped us with contracts and coordination of
vendors, with setting a budget, finding accommodation for our guests, getting quotes, setting up a floor plan and creative design for the ceremony and reception area. A day prior they also coordinated a rehearsal for our bridal party. On the day, they took care of everything and we could just relax. We knew are in the best hands. I don’t know what we would have done without them! Of course, we also had help from our family members, bridal party and all our suppliers done an amazing job. What was the most stressful thing in the planning of the wedding? The most stressful part was trying to have our ceremony take place on the hill of Ta’ Mena which was our dream. This proved to be very difficult and we had already given up on the idea. Again, Anna & Marvik done everything possible so that our dream would come true. In the end, it just a week before, we confirmed the ceremony set up. Which also happened thanks to our caterer George Borg. We were so ecstatic! We could hardly believe it! I The views from up there made such an impact on the wedding and we feel so blessed it all worked out. How did the day go? Were there any near disasters/funny incidents? The day went without a hitch. Just the heat made a lot of guests sweat ,-) What was the highlight of the day for you? Walking up the hill on my dad’s arm and seeing Jakob for the first time. Our eyes met for a split of a second when I reached the top of the hill ready to walk down the a isle. It was such an intense moment. Was there a specific theme to your wedding colours? We really liked the natural and rustic Mediterranean feel of our venue and wanted to blend in some modern but also romantic touches through lighting, furniture and a pop of colour. What is the best piece of advice you can give to other couple’s planning their wedding? Enjoy it! It passes so quickly! There will be many times you two do not agree on certain aspects (décor or colours, etc), Try to negotiate and work together as a team. We can only stress how happy we were to have professional help from wedding planners. There are lots of things that are either not fun organizing or you just do not know about them. It’s really great to have that support throughout the process but also on the day so everything runs smoothly and you do not need to worry about anything.
