WELCOME TO MY PORTFOLIO. I AM MABEL - YOUNG, PASSIONATE AND FULL OF LIFE.
MY STUDY IN ARCHITECTURE HAS GIVEN ME VARIED SKILLS IN BOTH DESIGN THEORY
AND PROCESSES. ADDITIONALLY, WORK EXPERIENCE IN OFFICE ENVIRONMENTS AND
SERVICE INDUSTRIES PREPARED ME TO WORK CONSCIENTIOUSLY AND PAY ATTENTION
TO DETAILS. I AM OPEN TO LEARN FROM OTHERS, FLEXIBLE, AND FAST TO PICK UP
NEW SKILLS. I HAVE LIVED IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, WHICH IS BOTH A PRIVELEGE

IT IS MY DESIRE TO LIVE A LIFE FULL OF INSPIRATION, WHICH IS THE REASON I AM
BOUTIQUE HOTEL INTRA
A STUDENT OF THE ENVIRONMENTS. ARCHITECTURE TO ME, IS ABOUT EXCITING
INTERACTIONS, MORE THAN COMFORT ITSELF. AS A DESIGNER, I HOPE TO CREATE
WITH MY MIND, DELIGHTFUL SPACES THAT REVEL SENSES.
THIS PORTFOLIO IS MADE OUT OF SELECTED WORKS IN MY UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE.
IT HAS BEEN A CHALLENGING JOURNEY, BUT I AM EAGER TO DESIGN IN THE FUTURE.

THIS DESIGN IS CREATED AS PART OF A PARAMETRIC DESIGN STUDIO,
FOR THE LAGI COMPETITION BASED IN COPENHAGEN, DENMARK. RHINO
AND GRASSHOPPER (AND ITS PLUG-INS) WITH THEIR CODING FUNCTIONS
WERE USED TO SIMULATE THE KINETIC MOVEMENTS ACCORDING TO WIND
AND PSYSICS. HENCE, IT IS AN OPTIMIZED FORM. IT PRIMARILY FUNCTIONS
AS BOTH AN ENERGY GENERATOR (HARVESTS HIGH-ALTITUDE WINDS) AS
WELL AS AN INTERACTIVE PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION. DESPITE BEING A
HUGELY CONCEPTUAL DESIGN, PARAMETERS FROM THE ENVIROMENT WERE
INCORPORATED INTO ITS FORM, THEREFORE CONSIDERING IT TO BE
CUTTING-EDGE, ENVIRONMENTALLY AND CULTURALLY SENSITIVE. THIS
STUDIO IS ONE OF WHICH I ENJOYED THE MOST. THIS PROJECT EVOKES
THOUGHTS ON THE APPLICATION OF MATERIALS IN MODERN ARCHITECTURE
AND TECHNOLOGY, NOT MERELY AS A PIECE OF REAL ESTATE, BUT TO
INSPIRE AND ENGAGE WITH PEOPLE.

THE SITE, LOCATED IN COPENHAGEN, IS IN AN INDUSTRIAL
AREA BY THE HARBOUR. THOUGH QUIET, IT HAS SCENIC
VIEWS, FAMOUSLY CONSISTING OF THE ICONIC LITTLE
MERMAID STATUE (TRIBUTE TO HANS CHRISTIAN
ANDERSON'S FABLE). WIND POWERED GENERATOR/
TURBINES THAT CAPTURE MARINE WINDS ARE NO STRANGER
TO THE DANISH SCENE. GIVEN THE SITE CONDITIONS,
FORM WAS IN ESSENCE DESIGNED TO CAPTURE THE MOST
ENERGY FROM THE STRONGEST WINDS. THIS IS DONE WITH
A SERIES OF GRID STUDIES TO SHOW THAT A DENSE GRID
RESULTED IN MORE FLOW WHILE A COARSER GRID
RESULTED IN HIGH ALTITUDES.

THE FORM IS MADE PARAMATRICALLY USING ALGORITHM IN THE GRASSHOPPING
PROGRAM, ALONG WITH KANGAROO TO SIMULATE PHYSICS. THERE ARE 3 PARTS
TO THIS PROCESS: CREATING A BASIC GID WITH A MIXTURE OF DIFFERENT PANELS
SIZES (TO OPTIMIZE CAPTURING WIND ENERGY), IMPOSING THAT ONTO A DESIRED
FORM, FINALLY TRANSFORMING IT INTO AN OPERATIONAL DESIGN (DIFFERENT
LAYERS/ FUNCTIONS COMING TOGETHER).

PETAL FORESTS THE PETAL FORESTS IS A RHINO/KANGAROO EXERCISE. IT IS AN ADAPTATION OF THE VOUSSIOR CLOUD
INSTALLATION BY IWAMOTO SCOTT, IN WHICH AN ULTRA-LIGHT MATERIAL SYSTEM OF VAULTS IS CREATED. THE
STRUCTURAL LOGIC OF DELAUNEY TESSALATION IS USED, SO THAT A SEEMINGLY POROUS FORM CAN BE
ACHIEVED THROUGH VARIED CELL DENSITY. IN GENERAL, DENSITY IS GRADUATED FROM BOTTOM TO HEAVIER
TOP, AND WHERE MORE SUPPORT IS REQUIRED. A GEOMETRIC RELATIONSHIP EXIST BETWEEN THE BASE
HEXAGON FORM WITH
THE HEXAGON CLUSTERS SITTING ON IT, FORMING A MONOLITHIC WHOLE. THIS FRACTAL
DESIGN IS IN FACT FORMED ORGANICALLY VIA PHYSICS WITH PARAMETICS DEFINED ON THE KANGAROO
PROGRAM VIA SCRIPTING. DESPITE THAT THE PETALS EXIST IN TENSION AS CONNECTIVE RODS, THE FORM
ITSELF IS MADE OUT OF CATERNARY ARCHES THAT WORK PERFECTLY IN COMPRESSION. THEY ACT MUCH LIKE A
TRUSS, WITH 3 ANGLED TANGENT OFFSET THAT IS DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE FORM. A COMPUTATIONAL
SCRIPT WAS DEVELOPED THAT ALLOWED THE PETAL EDGE CURVATURE TO BE CONGRUENT TO THE OFFSE,
HENCE FORMING A PROPORTIONAL RELATIONSHIP OF TANGENT OFFSET TO SECTIONAL HEIGHT. THE RESULTING
COLUMNS ARE OPTIMIZED TO BE MATERIAL EFFICIENT. EACH ITSELF IS MADE OUT OF 13,000 RODS.

INTRASPECTION. THE IDEA WAS TO CREATE
RELATIONSHIP OF INSPIRING SPACES AND
CURIOUS SPACES IN AND ABOUT THE BUILDING
CREATIVITY THAT CONTRIBUTES TO THE CULTURAL

LOOKING BUILDING REFLECTS AN
MIXED-USED PRECINCT, JOINING IN THE
INWARD-LOOKING COMMUNITY, THUS BRINGING
REDEFINITION OF THE SUROUNDING OLD
INSPIRATION BACK TO THE SPECIAL INTERESTS
INDUSTRIAL BACKWATERS. OLD WAREHOUSES

CONFERENCE PROGRAM IS ALIGNED TO PRAGMATIC

STREET-FRONT ARE SPLICED OUT OF THE
BUILDING, TO PUBLICISE THE TOP OF THE PODIUM
THE PROGRAM IS THEN PLOTTED ONTO A
PODIUM-TOWER TYPOLOGY AS THE PODIUM
REPRESENTS AN ELEVATED SPACE THAT IS
AND HOTEL EVEN MORE.
