How The First Year Students Can Make The Most Out of Their MBA?

Legend has it that we start regretting when a valuable moment is gone. It is then we figure out that we have not utilised it to the fullest. The same goes for many MBA graduates who had limited their vision while pursuing their business management programs. One of the common mistakes they commit is that they consider their education program as an investment that lasts only for two years. To some extent, they are right since every MBA student must view their degree as a learning opportunity. Nevertheless, this particular program is a life-long investment and is not about just the two years associated with it. When I was pursuing my MBA, the internet was hardly as much developed as it is today. Back then, I felt the need of being mentored by someone who had been to the business school before. Here I am sharing some of the important tips that will help you to utilise your education program to the fullest. I still wish we had received similar help back in the 1990’s.

Befriend your seniors

Remember that your seniors have already been at your position. Consequently, they can help you with the syllabus and provide you with the necessary tips to improve your knowledge. Always consider them as your senior colleagues and not mere students, as you have already stepped into a professional environment.

Attend social events

Try to attend all the conferences, workshops and seminars related to your field of study. This will enable you to gain more knowledge on the topic. More importantly, you may come to know many professionals who may play a critical role in building your career in the near future.

Read the module in advance

In most cases, students do not bother to open their books unless the professor teaches something in class. Make sure you are not a part of such crowd. Try to read the modules during the weekend before that particular class. Trust me; you may not get adequate time during the weekdays to revise the chapter taught by your professor.

Cut down your party schedule

We all know that a MBA program is full of learning opportunities, whether theoretically or in practical means. But buying a bottle of Jack Daniels is never an opportunity to learn (It depends on what knowledge you are seeking). Instead, visit the cafeteria with your friends and discuss notes over a cup of coffee. Both your liver and brain will praise you for your decision.

Pay attention to the lectures (especially the boring ones)

Lectures are boring and often dreadful. But they are equally important as far as your education is concerned. As a manager, you will have to face the most difficult problems in your career. Consider these lectures as the dress rehearsal of such problems. From the next time, stop playing crossword puzzles with your classmates in the last bench and seat in front of the lecturer so that you feel oneness with the conversation. Ask questions and indulge in the lecture, and you will be astonished by the results (your grades and overall personality will improve with time).

Grow your network

Did you know that the most elite co-founders of the largest companies in the world had met at their college? Katia Beauchamp and Hayley Barna; the co-founders of Birchbox, had met during their course at the Harvard Business School. Today they are running a successful online cosmetic company, which is rapidly growing in terms of revenue as well as demographic reach. Therefore, you never know what is waiting for you in

the future. Make sure that you utilise your education program by meeting new people every day and more importantly, maintain these contacts in the future.

Seek online help

The advent of the internet has proved helpful for the entire humanity. It is probably the most powerful tool for a student right now. Make sure that you use the World Wide Web (WWW) wisely. MBA assignments are hectic at times and in many cases, you may have to attend some more important lectures, which seems impossible given the fact that you have an assignment to submit on the next week. Under such circumstances, always look for essay writing help from reputed online companies. It will not only ease your job but will also allow you to focus on your career, which is even more important. It does not matter which subject you are specialising in, or the goals you have in your mind, you must always keep yourself open to new ideas. We assume that you are a first year student who is determined to make the most out of your MBA program. You may have big dreams. But these dreams need to be realised and in order to do that, you must continue learning. Keep the above-mentioned tips in mind and make sure you compete with yourself to transform into a global leader. The world does not need mere MBAs, it require true leaders.
