DESIGNING A STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTRE IN VINT, NAGPUR. WHEN I THINK ABOUT A SERIAL SPACE MENT JUST FOR STUDENTS IN A PLACE SUCH AS VNIT, WITH LUSH GREENS ALL AROUND THERE ARE FEW THINGS THAT COME TO MY M I N D : THE STUDENTS SPENT MOST OF THE TIME IN THE CAMPUS, YET AS A STUDENT MYSELF, THEY DO NOT AWKNOWLEDGE THE BUATY AND ALL THE AMBIANCE THAT THE CAMPUS HAS, SOMTHING WORTH APPRECIATING AND PRESERVING.

ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE DOES NOT IMITATE NATURE BUT IS CONCERNED WITH NATURAL MATERIALS, THE SITE, AND THE PEOPLE WHO WILL OCCUPY THE B U I L D I N G S . AVOIDING MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION THAT REQUIRE MORE EMBODIED ENERGY TO BUILD AND SUSTAIN IT, WHEN THE BUILDING BLENDS NATURALLY AND SITS SEAMLESSLY TO ITS SURROUNDINGS, REFLECTING CULTURAL CONTINUITY, IT IS 'ORGANIC' AND IS IDEALISTIC.

FOLLOWING ARE THE PRINCIPLES OF ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE

• PROMPTES HARMONY BETWEEEN STRUCTURES AND THE NATURE.

APPLICATION ALL THIS CAN BE ACHIEVED BY PRACTICING SIR FRANK LOYED WRIGHTS DESIGN APROACH TOWARDS ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE USING ELEMENTS AND PRACTICES SUCH AS CREATING AN INDOOR-OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE (PROVIDING HUGE OPENINGS, AND MAXIMUM EXPOSURE TO THE OUTDOORS USING) , HUGE GLASS FACADES, MINIMUM USE OF WALLS, KEEPING THE DESIGN SIMPLE, REPEATING THE SAME PRINCIPLES THROUGHOUT THE DESIGN, ETC.

• IT IS ACHIEVED BY INTEGRIGATING THE BUILDINGS AND THE SURROUNDINGS. • MAIN OBJECTIVE IS TO CAUSE NO HARM TO THE NATURE THROUGH OUR DESIGN. • EVERY STRUCTURE IS UNIQUE AND UNREPETABLE.

FROM THE OBSERVATIONS THAT I HAVE MADE THROUGHOUT A LOMG SPAN OF TIME, THE USER GROUPS IN THE VNIT CAMPUS, ESPECIALLY STUDENTS NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE AND IMPACT THIS LUSH GREEN PLACE HAVE OH THEIR LIVES.

• OUTWARD APPEARANCE RESEMBLES INNER PURPOSES. • ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE NOT ONLY ADDRESSES ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS BUT ALSO EXPRESSES INDIVIDUALITY.

KEEPING ALL THESE PAST OBSERVATIONS IN MIND, I WOULD TRY TO CREATE A SPACE FOR THESE STUDENTS WHICH WILL HELP THEM ENGAGE IN THEIR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT MORE AND MAY BE STUDENTS WILL TAKE INTESEST IN MAINTAINING, PROTECTING AND PRESERVING THIS BEAUTIFUL CAMPUS.

• IT IS A REINTERPRETATION OF NATURES PRINCIPLES AS THEY HAD BEEN FILLTERED THROUGH THE INTELLIGENT MINDS OF MEN AND WOMEN WHO COULD THEN BUILT FORMS WHICH ARE MORE NATURAL THAN NATURE ITSELF.

IN ORDER TO ACHIIEVE ALL THIS THROUGH THIS NEW SPACE THAT HAS BEING DESIGNED FOR THE STUDENTS, I HAVE ADOPTED THE TEACHINGS FOR SIR FRANK LOYED WRIGHT, THE PRAIRIE STYLE OF ARCHITECTURE.

APPROACHES TO THE DESIGN THERE ARE SEVERAL AREAS THE DESIGNER MAY FOCUS ON AT THE EARLY STAGES OF DESIGN THAT WILL BEGIN TO INFORM THE CONCEPT AND DIRECTION. THESE AREAS MAY BE DRAWN UPON THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT, WEAVED INTO ONE ANOTHER, AS THE PROJECT DEVELOPS. THE APPROACHES CAN BE CATEGORISED AS:

THE WORD SENSORY HERE MEANS, ADDRESSING THE VISUAL, AUDIBLE AND TACTILE ASPECTS OF THE SITE. THRE CAN BE POSSITIVE FACTORS AND NEGATIVE FACTORS THAT AFFECT THIS NATURAL SENSORY SYSTEM IN AND AROUND THE SITE. FEW OF THE POSSITIVE AND NEGATIVE FACTORS ARE AS FOLLOWS

AS THE VEHICULAR MOVEMENT IN AND AROUND THE SITE IS MINIMUM, THE PEACEFUL AMBIENCE IS MAINTAINED. THE TREES THROUGHOUT THE SITE BOUNDARY CREATES A BARRIER. DUE TO THIS THE SITE IS SEPARATED FROM THE NEIGHBOURHOOD AND STAYS PEACEFUL AND SILENT. THE TREE BARRIER CREATED ALSO PROVIDES A VIEW OF LUSH GREENERY FROM EVERY POINT OF VIEW THROUGHOUT THE SITE. AS THE SITE IS PRESENT INSIDE THE CAMPUS WITH THE CAMPUS SECURITY, A SENSE OF SECURITY IS MAINTAINED.

THE VEGETATION IS WILD AND HENCE THE VIEWS FROM THE SITE ARE NOT SO P L E A S A N T . THE PRESENT WILD LIFE IS A FEAR FACTOR RIGHT NOW WHEN WE VISIT THE S I T E .
