Brief: The project had been proposed in the old campus of Government buildings which is known as ‘Kothi Compound’ and is on the banks of ‘Aji River’ from where the Rajkot city started flourishing. Britishers developed the campus in the 1800s for their administrative purposes, which later was taken over by the Indian Government. Since the campus needs redevelopment, a lot of proposals have been designed for that. We, as a group of students, proposed an Agriculture Department for the farmers of the Saurashtra region as Rajkot is the centre. This department would focus on various activities that would increase the agricultural efficiency of the country. The department proposed had been given an area of 1.2 Hectare from the whole campus of 4 Hectares where a few old buildings will be restored. Design Approach: “The architectural character of this department should be a reflection of Past-Present and Future of the city, and becomes a Landmark for the city” was the core idea for the design of this institution. And, it was achieved by studying the works of Joseph Allen Stein and James Stirling in the historical context.

Reinvigorating the culture of Dhrangadhra through its Built Environment Thesis Project: 5th Year of B.Arch (10th Sem) | Year 2020
Duration: 6 Months | Site Location: Dhrangadhra, Gujarat, India Individual Project: From thinking about inquiry till answering the hypothesis and prooving it right or wrong.
The inquiry of the thesis was to understand the role of architecture in the changing scenarios, how to preserve the originality of the place in the new built environment and would also reflect the cultural and social values of the town. Brief: The project had been proposed near the old stone quarry of the small town of Dhrangadhra in Surendranagar District for the stone artisans and people of the town. The town’s development has been stagnant for years affecting the identity of the town. For this, an Institution was proposed which would reflect the identity of the town through its architectural language and the functional spaces which will incorporate current needs and requirements of the town . Design Approach: “The institution should be a reflection of the town’s culture and lifestyle with which people can associate themselves” was the core idea for the design of this institution. And, it was achieved by studying the town through various layers and understanding them.

AIM To reinvigorate the identity of Dhrangadhra by reinterpretation of the cultural and social values of the town into the present built environment. OBJECTIVES • To understand the town in terms of its culture, society, current scenario and development. • To identify the needs or issue of the town and do the appropriate intervention. • To bring back the lost virtue of the town and enrich it with life. • To explore the most important elements or ways to create the architecture which is local to the place. • To create a blend which would balance the past and future of the town; generating a sense of belonging. • To demonstrate a new built typology which preserves the essence of the town. 8

The whole essence of the thesis is based on the experiences that built character invokes. The results of the thesis showed the significant influence of culture in the built environment and how it affects the perception of viewers; the way they see it, understand it and relate it with themselves. “In the absence of cultural influences; architecture becomes lifeless, monotonous and does not make complete sense”. Architecture should communicate with the people or narrate the story to the people. Hence, it is the duty of an architect to have cultural influences in their work along with fulfilling the needs of current times. The Cultural influences can be achieved through scale and proportion of the spaces, the way it is constructed, use of materials, textures or colours, use of certain architectural elements, character of the built , having familiar activities; which gives essence of the place.

Academic Project: 5th Year of B.Arch (9th Sem) | Year 2019 Duration: 6 Months | Site Location: Rajkot, Gujarat, India Group Project (3 people): From thinking about advanced
construction system to its application to buildings and designing it.
Curved Roof System with Cable Suspension
Brief: We had to select one project related to advance building construction system and had to work on it throughout the semester. We selected large span structures and specifically stadiums because it requires complex construction system. After a lot of research, we went with Cable Suspension system to support the roof as we wanted the interior of the stadium clear and all the structural members should be in the exterior. Other reasons for using this system was to have a light weight structure and to respond the climate of the region. With the system that we derived, Primary system became Cable Suspension while Secondary system was Double Cable due to the curvature of the roof and cables. The stadium designed was 5500 sq mt area huge and 18 mt in height where number of sports can be played. Design Approach: The stadium should be simple in planning to avoid other complexities and the structural system would be exposed so all the members would be seen from exterior and we get clear interior space to use.

Internship Period: 4th Year of B.Arch (7th Sem) | Year 2018 Duration: 6 Months Office: Dustudio, Auroville, Pondicherry, India Brief: At Dustudio, a wide range of works were being done; from designing a small fixture to large scale institutions. Along with this they worked with various materials and explored their horizons. I was majorly working for a very big project who had chain stores of saree in different cities of India where certain amount of architectural design was done and larger part was the interior designing. My role for this project was to work with my Junior Architect in terms of designing, making working drawings and few execution related works. Another project I had worked on was the institution and it was an architectural project. Drawings of the same cannot be shared here as it was confidential. Freelancing: After completing B.Arch | From Year 2021 Project 1: Refurbishing my own Home (Architecture+Interior)
Duration: 3 Months
Brief: All the existing flaws and mistakes were required to be resolved. In addition, all the things should be easiy maintainance and nothing should be complicated or critical in designing or fixtures. Designing should be such that one likes it lifelong and not very trendy or overdone. It should be unique, classy yet simple. Design Approach: “The overall theme for the designing was an inspiration from my very own culture and traditions.” The new designing and layout was based on the Indian habits and culture but with a hint of contemporariness. This way, it gives a new look as well as stay connected to its roots. Material Palette: Green Rajasthani Stone for outdoors, Full Body Tiles for parking, Natural Teak Wood Furniture, Teal coloured Tapestry, MS Box section for Pergola, Sathvario Stone in Furniture, Brass plates in Doors, Cane weaving in Jali Door, VInyl Flooring and Wallpaper in Living Area.

Project 2: Renovating a Client’s House (Architecture+Interior)
Design Approach: “Regional materials was thought to be used in the main elevation of the house so it gives the essence of the place.” Another criteria while designing was the budget limitations so whatever was decided was in that framework. To bring in the light at the floor below, glass bricks were fixed in the slab while it was getting casted. This gave a break in the monotony of the space and lit the below area.
