Pursuing Bachelors of Architecture from Academy of Architecture, Rachna Sanasad Dadar, Mumbai.
Hi,
I am Manasvi Rane, student of architecture, currently enrolled at Academy of Architecture, Rachna Sansad. At present i am pursuing my 7th semester in my B.Arch studies and need to get through with an internship of minimum 90 days in a reputed architectural ďŹ rm as an academic requirement. This portfolio is an insight to my academic work throughout the three years of architecture. My love for exploration and experimentation takes me through multi disciplinary design stages. A major part of my designing period is consumed by effects of my design as whole on the greater world, the broader aspect. My past 4 years i have spent exploring and developing my skills by observing things around and experimenting. Looking for an opportunity where i can learn and enhance my proffesional knowledge.

ABOUT THE PROJECT.
The children of the slums of dharavi lack a open space or a play ground for them to play freely upon. these kids find their playgrounds n the narrow streets of dharavi or any other open area reserved for dumping of trash etc. This project aims at creating a sports complex for the children of dharavi where they feel welcome and have access to all facilities of indoor and outdoor activities.
CONCEPT. Since the sports complex was for the kids of dharavi, the main aim was to not make it look extravagant and intimidate them but infact make it simple and more approachable to the people there.

THE DESIGN PROGRAM The project aimed at designing an afforadable housing for the people living in B.D.D chawls in Worli, Mumbai. The site is situated within the B.D.D chawls.
STUDYING THE CHAWLS OF B.D.D The first step towards designing the chawls of B.D.D included studing the current state of living of the people there, amd also the shortcomings of the current chawls. THE
PLANNING
TYPE I
TYPE II There were two types of chawls that were found one with the indoor corridor with a dungy feel to it and very little social life, on the other hand there were chawls with outward corridors with a dense social life
DESIGN CONCEPT
OPEN CORRIDORS The corriodors of the chawls plays an important role in the social life of the people of the chawls. The corridors characterize them. Thus keeping this in mind, OPEN CORRIODRS was considered to be the main design element. VERTICAL STAIRCASE Since the corridors made the buildings monotonous horizontally , a vertical element of exposed staircase was added to it. This element brings together the entire building and also acts an important design element.
Entry Level
The common space, situated between the two clusters has access to both the lobbies and amenities. This space acts as an informal common space that also has an access to the ground.
Amenities Area
The amenities are centrally accessible to both the clusters through the entry level. The amenities include a gym, a multipurpose hall and a general store.
Cluster I
Accessible through the entry level and lobby 1, the first cluster houses 60 residential apartments of 35sq.m for the L.I.G members of the society and 10 flats for the M.I.G members of the society.
Cluster II Accessible through the entry level and lobby 2, the secong cluster houses 30 residential apartments of 45sq.m for the M.I.G members of the society. It also has the multipurpose hall on the first floors right above the general store.

INTRODUCTION An essential part of the architects working process, working drawings are what make the design concept a reality. As a part of the 6th semester curriculam we were exposed to basics of working drawing and were asked to create working drawings for our 5th semester A.D project, the car showroom. Working drawings helped me understand the actual drawings required to make our design ideas and concepts into reality. Also it gave me a better understanding of the line of construction on site along with the construction details of a concrete structure. These working drawings for the car showroom project reflects my understanding of construction and detailing of a concrete structure along with its finishes.

UNDERSTANDING THE URBAN CONTEXT, FLORA FOUNTAINREGAL CINEMA
This project undertaken in the allied design studio of town planning aimed at understanding the variuos layers of planning of a place. Mapping a place according to the various aspects that govern the scenario of the place gives us a better understanding of its structure and character on a larger scale and creates a strong base for any developements that would need to done in the future.
HISTORY OF THE SITE AND ITS IMPACT ON CURRENT SCENARIO
3rd CENTURY BC - 1500AD
1500AD - 1800AD
PRECOLONIAL Since times unknown, Mumbai has been a region of seven islands. The original residents of Mumbai were mainly fishing communities, the kolis. Small amount of cultivation also used to take place. Between the 3rd century bc and 1348, the islands came under the control of successive hindu dynasties. COLONIAL ERA
The seven islands of Bombay were, in the16th century, Portuguese territories lying off the west coast of India, that were handed over to England under this title as part of the dowry of Catherine of Braganza, married to CharlesII in 1661.
1800AD - 2000AD
POST COLONIAL After the independence, this area was taken over by mcgm , the land use did not change majorly, but the functions of certain buildings changed . (Royal Alfred sailors’ home was turned into Maharashtra police headquarters, the residence for maharaja of Jaipur was turned to ngma building.)
ACCESS AND SITE CIRCULATION
The site is located in a prime area of Bombay that is accesible by all the parts of mumbai and beyond by the two railway stations-Churchgate staion and CST station that cater to the western, the central and the harbour line. Also the circulation within the site using public transport is very effective. Also the site is culturally very rich and is a hertage site of the city. The beautiful pre-colonial structures that are now commercial headquarters, colleges and art galleries, the site attracts a lot of different people.

DOCUMENTATION Architect Nari Gandi (1934-1993), was an Indian architect renowned for his highly innovative works in organic architecture. The architect did not make drawings prior to the construction, he would explain the deign with a wooden pencil on the ground. Thus no drawings of his structures by him are available. This project thus aimed at documenting the S.H.Daya residence in Madh island to make the drawings for the owners of the place.
