THE SITE IS LOCATED INSIDE A SEZ WHICH IS A WELL SECURED LOCALITY. THE ROAD ON THE SOUTHERN SIDE AND THE LAKE TOWARDS THE NORTH ACT AS A NATURAL BOUNDARY FOR THE SITE. THE DENSE VEGETATION ALSO ACTS AS A LAYER OF PRIVACY. THE SITE IS CURRENTLY BARREN MOSTLY AND THE ADJACENT SIDES ARE FLANKED BY UNDEVELOPED PLOTS OF LAND. THE AREA IS CURRENTLY VERY CALM AND VERY LESS NOISE LEVELS WERE RECORDED.

WELL LAID OUT SEWAGE AND ELECTRICITY LINES IN THE AREA RENDERING EASY CONNECTION TO SERVICES. NATURAL LAKE HELPS IN MODERATING EXTREME WEATHERS. SITE IS ISOLATED AND IS LESS ATTRACTED FOR A PUBLIC BUILDING LIKE THIS. NEARBY LAND IS EMPTY AND DIFFERENT BUILDING TYPOLOGIES MAY COME UP IN FUTURE. HENCE DESIGN SHOULD BE DONE KEEPING THIS IN MIND PRESENCE OF A LAKE AND THE GREAT VIEWS IT PROVIDES WOULD INCREASE THE AESTHETIC APPEAL OF THE CONVENTION CENTRE.

THE SITE IS AWAY FROM THE BUSY CITY. THIS MAY BE OF A CONCERN FROM THE SAFETY POINT OF VIEW. STREETS ARE EMPTY AFTER DUSK AND SHOPS TOO CLOSE EARLY. CARGO TERMINAL NEARBY MAY CAUSE AN UNPLEASANT ENVIRONMENT DUE TO THE NOISE.

KNOT -

AS AN OBJECT

CONVENTION CENTRE IS A PLACE WHERE DIFFERENT PEOPLE COME FROM DIFFERENT PLACES AND CONVERGE ON A COMMON IDEA OR AN EVENT. THIS LED TO TAKING INSPIRATION FROM A KNOT AS AN OBJECT.

THE OBJECT CAN BE MANY THINGS - THE SITE IS A KNOT OF A BEAUTIFUL LAKE AND THE LAND THE KNOT CAN TAKE FORM OF THE CONTEXT THAT WE ARE BUILDING IN, MIHAN , AN AREA WHICH IS A CONVERGING POINT FOR ALL THE ASPIRATIONS OF NAGPUR AS A CITY.

THIS IS WHERE THE CONVENTION CENTRE BECOMES A CONVERGING POINT AND STRENGTHENS THE WHOLE THREADS THAT ARE CONNECTED TO IT.

THE KNOT OF THE STRUCTURE IS THE AUDITORIUM, THE MAIN FUNCTIONAL SPACE AND THE ENTRANCE. THE OTHER ACTIVITIES FLOW TOWARDS THIS KNOT . THE USERS MOVE TOWARDS THE CENTRAL FOCAL SPACE ALONG THE CONVENTION CENTRE AND COMPLETE THE KNOT. 18M W

The Main Entrance towards into the convention centre, with the curvy roof form which has been designed with varying radiuses - closer at the centre and farther apart at the ends gives a grand first look of the venue. The staircases too add up to the grandeur and also acts as a podium before the entrance.

A Birds Eye view of the Convention Centre with the Telhara lake towards the back of the site. The Design was inspired from a Basic Knot, which gets stronger with the forces from two sides. The convention centre also acts in the same manner with all the activities acting as core forces, and the people, the city of Nagpur and their bond growing stronger. The Built form was also designed keeping in mind the climate of Nagpur allowing for shade and natural light wherever possible and also the Zoning seggregated the vehicular and pedestrian movements comfortably. The landscape along the Northern Lake Edge seamlessly intertwines with the site and can be accessed or further built upon for leisure activities.

A view of the Convention Centre when one drives in through the Main Entrance.

BA18ARC019

A view of the OAT from the Audi Exit way. OAT has been housed towards the backside and nearby the lake from where cool breezes come. It has also been designed such that it does not affect the residents living inside.

The cafe and its outdoor sitting provides great views of the site and can also act as a great relaxation space during winters when the southern sun would provide ample light and warmth. The louveres also protect the occupants from sun and glare. The cafe would act as an easily accessible and a space to socialise within the convention centre.

VIEWS

One of the 2 Wings - Housing the Exhibition Centre, Seminar halls and Conference rooms on the upper floor. The activity areas are bordered by Corridoor spaces and they acts a buffer from the warmer weather. The corridoors have a glazed wall along with masonry curtain walls that are inclined in a slight angle and they provide shading from the western sun.

The Main Entrance along with the Drop Off area and the landscaped pedestrian path.

A view of the Northern side which houses the loading deck and the OAT along with the continuous Pedestrian pathway that merges with the landscape.
