ndia has set a national target to ‘skill’ 500 million people in India, across a variety of sectors, by 2022. The National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) of India has been tasked to meet 30 per cent of that target: 150 million skilled workers need to be produced in the next 7 years. The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Ministry of Skill development and Entrepreneurship signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Algonquin Community College in areas of collaboration for skill development during the visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi to Canada in April 2015. es, the Start menu is back. Yes, there are virtual desktops. No, the Charms bar hasn’t gone away. And no, we don’t know when Windows 10 will ship or what it will cost. But we’ve seen the technical preview of Windows 10 and the word to bear in mind for this release is productivity. Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore repeatedly emphasized that this is a very early build without even all the features that have been announced, and that there might be rough spots. We didn’t see any problems in the time we had to try it out at Microsoft’s San Francisco event, but what’s clear is that there is plenty more to come. This isn’t the place to look for changes in Explorer or the control panel, let alone desktop tools like Paint and Notepad or Store Apps like Music and Video. The technical preview is about the core features that are supposed to prove Microsoft can balance touch, mouse and keyboard without making any users feel abandoned. As expected, the Start menu is the default if you use Windows 10 with a keyboard and mouse, though you can keep the full-screen Start screen if you prefer it. Even on the Start menu, you can pin Live Tiles in multiple sizes on the right, but on the left you also get the familiar list of pinned and recent applications, complete with jump lists for files, the search box that you can also use to run commands and a power button for shutting down or restarting your PC. The search box has all the Windows 8 features, including results from Bing and the Windows store, and a separate Search menu next to the Start button gives you trending topics directly from Bing, too. You can resize the Start menu, although oddly you can only drag to change the height; changing the width means picking a setting rather than just dragging with the mouse. This is certainly more familiar for mouse and keyboard users, but it remains to be seen whether the Windows 8 users who actually like touch will find it a step backwards. Using Alt Tab to move between open windows is a keyboard shortcut that’s been around since 1990 and it still gives you a line of Windows to choose from. As with Windows 8.1, those now include any modern Apps you have running, and those now open as windows on the desktop like any other software you’re running, ready to be resized or snapped side by side. The new Task View button on the taskbar is there to introduce the idea of moving between windows to the vast majority of Windows users who’ve never tried Alt Tab. Snapping does more than the ‘two desktop Apps getting half the desktop’ layout that you get in Windows 8. If you have one narrow window, the second window can take up all the rest of the space, or you can snap four Apps, one in each corner. Windows will even show thumbnails of open windows to help you pick the one you want to snap without rearranging everything.
Despite rumours, the Charms bar that you get when you swipe the edge of a touchscreen hasn’t gone away in Windows 10, but you might not see it when you use the Windows-C keyboard shortcut. If you have a mouse and keyboard and the window that’s active is a modern App like the Windows Store, that keyboard shortcut brings up a mini Charms menu hanging off the top left corner of the App instead. This has the three dots that give you any extra commands, now clearly labelled as App Commands, the Search, Share and Settings charms that are usually on the Charms bar, plus other useful commands like Play, Print and Project, plus the option of running the App Full Screen. If you can’t print from the App, the Print charm is on the menu but greyed out. That makes the Charms less touch friendly but much more mouse friendly when you’re controlling an App; which is what you want when you’re using a mouse - all the way over to the side of the screen and all the way back isn’t efficient with a mouse. When you’re controlling Windows — which is what you get when you don’t have a modern App selected — having the Charms and settings bar at the side of the screen is fairly logical. And those Charms are staying around (although probably in a different arrangement with a more logical division of what shows up where) because when the Windows team took them out, users at Microsoft complained loudly. That big friendly sidebar for choosing and changing WiFi turns out to be really handy. Some of the most interesting features for business aren’t actually visible in the technical preview of Windows 10. Being able to upgrade PCs using management tools, being able to manage PCs thought the same Mobile Device Management systems you use for smart phones and tablets, an enterprise App store that lets businesses manage volume license for modern Apps instead of making users sign in to a work PC with a personal Microsoft account, and separation of personal and business data using encrypted containers that doesn’t mean changing all your applications but persists even when you copy files onto a USB stick or cloud service will all appeal to businesses, but you can’t try them out until the previews of Windows Server and the necessary management tools come along. Windows 10 is all about balancing the demands of different users. It’s not just business users with desktop PCs and keyboards, versus tablet users. Windows is for sensors and data centres and Windows Phone and Xbox One as well as tablets and laptops and desktop PCs and giant wall screens and all the devices in between (at least in Microsoft’s ambitions). But what we’re seeing in this first technical preview release is very much about balancing the heritage of two decades on Windows with the new world of touch, and with making IT teams comfortable with the BYOD and consumerisation features introduced in Windows 8 by giving them more security options and more management.
e’ll be getting the iPhone 6S this year, which will be a feature upgrade to the iPhone 6, but that means that we have to wait until 2016 to see a completely new design for the iPhone 7. We’ve covered all of the rumours below, but with the phone still more than a year away that means that there’s a lot of information, as it’s hard to weed out the stuff that’s not true at this point. This can also make it hard to work out what the new phone may look like, as you have to imagine how the features fit in. For that reason, I’ve put together a new gallery, showing some of the best renders out there. These are all the work of quality graphic artists, using their skills to show how some of the features may work. Apple has steadily been improving its cameras, with the 8-megapixel snapper in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus one of the best that we’ve seen in a smartphone. It turns out that Apple wants even more and, according to reports from Taiwan, has been working on dual-lens camera tech for three years. While Apple appears to have solved its initial issues with the technology, it looks as though dual-lens won’t be ready for the iPhone 6S and will, instead, come to the iPhone 7 instead. A report in Business Weekly (spotted by G for Games) quotes Altek’s CEO, Xiaru Wen, as saying that Apple has “been studying the dual lens” technology for three or more years. Wen’s the man to know, as Altek is the company that makes the dual-lens cameras for the HTC and Huawei. According to Wen, Apple’s got lots of applications that take advantage of dual-lens technology, but the issue has been that the supply chain hasn’t been able to supply enough products. In addition, technical problems, such as camera blur from misaligned lenses, have got in the way. Now, Apple’s solved its issues via its acquisition of LinX Imaging earlier this year. It has also lined up Largan to take over production, with the company’s CEO recently stating that the company was looking to double its production capacity. This will be too late for 2015, so points at dual-lens cameras only being ready in 2016 for the iPhone 7. We’ve got an idea of what to expect, thanks to information from LinX, which Apple bought for $20m, according to the Wall Street Journal. This startup has been developing sensors that it says will bring SLR-like quality to smartphones. It has developed sensor arrays that use multiple sensors, alongside bespoke optics and image processing, to improve image quality. Using multiple sensors means that LinX sensors can measure depth, which can help speed up auto-focus or simply let you focus the shot after you’ve taken it, as we’ve seen before with HTC’s Duo camera. It’s also possible for the cameras to scan objects in 3D and give accurate measurements for objects, too. As Apple launches a new SoC with each generation of iPhone, it’s not hard to work out that the iPhone 7 will have an A10 chip, following on from the A9 in the iPhone 6S. Given that the A10 won’t launch until 2016, though, it means that details are fairly light on the ground, although an interesting bit of information has surfaced. According to theElectronic Daily News, the Taiwanese semiconductor company, TSMC, is in the process of setting up a 10nm manufacturing line, which would most likely be used to manufacture the A10 chip. For those not in the know, the fabrication process size, describes the average half-pitch (half the distance between identical features). In other words, as the fabrication process decreases in size, the features get smaller and closer together. This gives three main benefits. First, it means a reduction in the size of the electronics, which means more room inside the case for other components or a bigger battery. Apple exploited this with the new MacBook, which is largely battery inside. Secondly, it means that the SoC draws less power, which helps improve battery life. Thirdly, it means that the SoC runs cooler, which either means you can get away with less cooling or that you can run the SoC at a faster speed to increase performance. Currently, the A8 chip (as used in the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2) uses a 20nm fabrication process, while the A9 (expected to be used in the iPhone 6S) will most likely switch to a 14nm fabrication process. One rumour doing the rounds at the moment is that Apple is ready to introduce wireless charging to the iPhone 7, largely ditching the need for the Lightning cable. So far, the rumours haven’t come from any definitive sources, so this rumour can be filed under hearsay or ‘things that we’d like to have’. However, while that may be the case, the truth, the fact is that wireless charging is a big thing. Samsung has gone all-out for it with the S6 and S6 Edge, while Ikea has even released furniture with built-in wireless charging. With so much interest around wireless charging, it would make a lot of sense of Apple to follow suit and use the technology in its phone. Besides, wireless charging is easier and more convenient than having to plug a cable in. One of the rumours doing the rounds is that the iPhone 7 will be the first smartphone to have 256GB of storage. This would be double the current 128GB maximum of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.Technically there’s no reason why Apple can’t add more storage to the phone; instead, it’s more a restriction on cost and need. Flash storage for phones isn’t particularly cheap and most people find that a 64GB handset is enough, let alone a 128GB model. It’s currently doubtful how many people would want to pay even more to get 256GB. If anything, Apple may follow the course it took in the past, which is to upgrade the iPad to 256GB first, before rolling out the option to the iPhone line. By Siddharth Sing from team UMANG

In memory of Dr. O.P. Bhalla, my dearest friend hat is the meaning and purpose of life? Is there more than eating ,drinking, pleasure pursuits, earning, spending and finally ending our life only to be born again? Man endowed with high intellectual capacity should divert a little attention towards this purposeful enquiry. Of course mankind can justly be proud of its material and scientific advancement tremendously M M Kathuria progressing towards the exploration of the outer space. From stone age man has been constantly endeavoring to conquer nature and harness natures resources and improve living conditions. Once a savage killing animal for food, dwelling in caves and living an animal life, his outlook on life has not kept pace with the material progress he has made with time and space. For the average man the purpose of life is nothing more than enjoying in full measure, worldly pleasures. Ambitions, greed, malice, hatred , vengeance and a score of other evil have engulfed mankind in all directions that no law, no police force can ever control or curb. Man lives in constant apprehension of danger to life and property. The craze for power and position and the race for grabbing wealth is so intense that mankind is not afraid of touching the fringes of total annihilation to achieve this. Animals attack man only out of fear of possible harm and usually in self defense. Animals know no philosophy; they do notaffiliate to any religion. Not so withman. The urge to earn, so that man can discharge his obligations to the society is fundamental. This Arth (Wealth) has been recognized as next to Dharma. Pursuit of wealth and happiness is a legitimate human aspiration. But they should be gained in ways of righteousness with adherence to ethical rules of conduct. To sum up while the pursuit of wealth and happiness is a legitimate human aspiration, they should be gained in ways of righteousness, if they are to ultimately lead to spiritual freedom of man ( Moksha) There are three paths for attaining the spiritual freedom namely Karma (Service), Bhakti (Devotion) and Gyan (Wisdom). Selfless service, in flinching faith in GOD and the knowledge of the supreme truth are the ladders leading one to the gateway of spiritual freedom. There are six enemies viz. Kama( Desire), Krodh ( Anger), Lobh ( Greed), Moh( Attachment) and Matsurya (ill will) which lie in wait like highway robbers to role away the jewel of knowledge lying hidden within us. So through the spiritual studies and understanding life as a whole, we learn how to be happy in this world, how to face life inundated by ups and downs, how to discharge our avowed duties and responsibilities amid adversaries, how to be good to one and all and finally the way to attain spiritual freedom.

EXCLUSIVE SHOOTING TRAINING WITH RUSSELL MARK Sports Academies provide for a pyramid growth: that is what shooter Russell Mark said in an exclusive interview with Roma Ghosh. On the very first day of the clinic organized by the Manav Rachna Sports Academy from September 13-19, 2015, Mark was confident that at least 2-3 of the participants of the Clinic would reach world class targets and positions in the future
S
ports Academies are pivotal to success for sports aspirants , said Russell Andrew Mark, the Australian Trap and Double Trapclay target shooter and shooting coach. While relaxing just before the start of a shooting training clinic at the Karni Singh Shooting range, he said that the Manav Rachna Sports Academy was playing a very important part in helping sports learners to reach the top of a pyramid. “Sports academies provide the broad base spectrum (as in a pyramid) which is so very essential to lead and inspire those who can finally reach the tip of the pyramid.” While sitting in the relaxed ambience of the picturesque shooting range the Australian shooter said, “The Karni Singh Shooting Range has facilities which are totally world class and the Commonwealth Games of 2010 proved that
the machinery was world class.” He also said that Shooters here in India should have no excuses for not getting high scores with top of the line facilities. He went on to say that Shooters need continuously to be motivated and trained so that they persist in their hard work to reach the top. Vikram Bhatnagar who was one of the senior participants at the clinic said, “Russell is both a good shooter and a good coach. And it is this combination which makes him great,” Participants here are training with one of the world champions and they should make the most of it, said Vikram. Gurkarwar Singh who is only 15 years of age was surely making the most of the training and said, “Right on the first day, I came to know what my mistakes were while shooting. Something as simple as my posture
was pointed out and small corrections are essential to reach international standards,” said this young boy from Chandigarh. The trio from Bhopal which included Anam Basit, Sanjay Singh Rathore and P. Pande had come all the way from Madhya Pardesh to coach with Russell Mark who has won the Olympic gold medal in Double Trap at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and also won a silver Olympic medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. They were highly impressed with the coaching they had received. When asked how important it was to stay physically fit to be a successful Shooter, Mark promptly replied, “Staying physically fit is of utmost important. After a strenuous shooting game, those who are not physically fit and trim succumb to stress due to lack of stamina. Being physically fit is the first step to be mentally agile .” In March 2009, Mark was inducted into the Australian Clay Target Association’s Hall of Fame as its youngest ever member and KUDOS to the Manav Rachna Sports Academy for bringing the Australian world class shooter all the way to our capital city at the Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi, to provide an exclusive clinic for those who want to make Shooting a career of international repute.

r. Prashant Bhalla, President, MREI addressed the “National Summit on Higher Education for Skill Development & Employability” organized by the Education Promotion Society for India (EPSI) at Chandigarh recently. In his introductory address Dr. Prashant Bhalla, Treasurer EPSI & President-MREI informed: “EPSI has been espousing the cause of higher education in India at various levels since 2005. During the last ten years, it has done policy advocacy, stakeholders’ consultation and lobbying on behalf of thousands of higher education institutions, universities, and academicians. It is due to EPSI’s active involvement in higher education matters and the firm stand taken by it on some crucial matters that it has emerged as a representative body for the Indian Education Sector”. He also shared that EPSI has tried to represent the private sector institutions’ viewpoint on various forums including the Parliamentary Standing Committee on MHRD. EPSI has been trying to create informed public opinion on these bills by organizing meetings and conferences at various places. At the Inaugural Session of the “National Summit on Higher Education for Skill Development & Employability” Padma Vibhushan S. Parkash Singh Badal, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab said that India is a young Country. 65% of the population is less than 65 years of age. But in India vocationally trained population is only 3%. (In Korea it is 96%, Japan, in Japan, Germany and other countries it’s more than 80%) It is a Big Challenge for us. Solution to this is State Government, Central Government, Universities, Educational Institutions have to work hard with a mission. Expressing his views at one of the sessions Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Srivastava,Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna University asked “What we are doing and what we are thinking? Need to identify the gap.” He said that on one hand we are working hard to give the best knowledge to our students BUT we are very well aware that the industry is looking for the BEST FIT and not the RIGHT FIT. More orientation, he emphasized, towards intentional learning is required rather than experiential learning. We should adopt two basic fundamentals one is B to B (Back to Basics) and other is, B to C (Back to curriculum) at the higher level of education. Our primary education is to be skill oriented, he said.

Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish the Manav Rachna Centre of Foreign Languages has received overwhelming response from the students, faculty and staff of MREI as well as other candidates. Such large numbers enrolling only goes to show that there is a need and desire to be citizens of the world: wanting to learn different languages In the past three months, since its inception in June 2015, MRCFL has witnessed the zeal and enthusiasm of its faculties and students to take that extra step in order to become seasoned multilingual professionals. At MCRFL we adopt the best academic practices to ensure our students shine in their respective fields. Students of MRCFL also displayed their exuberance and love for language by participating in the Cultural Evening of the Asia Pacific Conference on Exercise

Taking ahead the legacy of knowledge-sharing and going further ahead in our journey of making our students multi-linguists is our newest initiative “The Polyglots”, brainchild of Vice President MREI Dr Amit Bhalla. Polyglots endeavours to connect all the multi - linguists who are associated with MREI (including students, parents, and faculty and staff members). STEPS TO REVIVE THE BADKHAL LAKE
Well-wishers of Faridabad are concerned about the once-prominent water body and pride of Faridabad: the Badkhal Lake. Manav Rachna International University, jointly with the District Administration, scientists, and academicians is conducting a pre-feasibility study for revival of the lake. The Government of Haryana, with the blessings of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana, is keen to see the water body revived
T
he Badkhal Lade has shrunken about 25-30 per cent of its original volume. Seepage losses together with other factors has only meant that the Lake needs to be revived and collaborative efforts on “Technological interventions for the revival” should be undertaken. Considering the historical factor and tourism, revitalization of Badkhal Lake is very essential and it may be treated as National Development Activity. In this regard, a team comprising officials from Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) and Global Hydrogeological Solutions (GHS) with the support of the District Administration has been constituted. MRIU and GHS are working on the pre-feasibility study for the revival of the Badhkal Lake. “The aim of this pre-feasibility study is to identify various possibilities for the restoration and long-term sustainability of the Lake. This study will also help to ascertain the road map and database created will be useful for preparation of the DPR (detailed project report) or action plan”, said Dr. Prashant Bhalla, President, MREI. One such piece of research was recently recognized by the Asia Pacific Career Development Association (APCDA). “A Case Study on Manav Rachna Educational Institutions: Enhancing Employability Skills through Career Development Centre”, was presented at the APCDA Conference held at Ryogoku,Tokyo, Japan from September 1517, 2015. The case study has been writ-
ten by Dean, Faculty of Management Studies, Dr. Chavi Bhargav Sharma. More than 300 delegates from around the world attended the meeting. Through the case study, Dr. Chavi conveys how MREI approaches the difficult task of working towards employability, and skill enhancement. Dr. Chavi highlighted how MREI has been able to maintain an exemplary placement record of more than 85% since 2011. This has been possible only through rigorous training, and preparation, made possible with hard work put in by students, and direction provided by the CDC. In order to prepare students
for challenges in the real world, MREI provides them exposure and learning on a number of topics. The mainstay of all these activities is the thrust on hands- on learning, and the way in which students are involved in these activities. Some of the areas of training are: • Research (Incubation centre) • Entrepreneurship development • Community service and Corporate Social Responsibility • Language training (Language gym) • Event management • Mentoring The methodology showcased in the presentation was appreciated by delegates at the conference, who belonged to various parts of the world,
such as USA,Vietnam, Pakistan, Greece, Denmark etc. Participants were eager to learn more about the activities mentioned, and how they could implement the same in their institutions. In particular, they applauded the way in which a diverse array of activities had been
packed into academic programmes at MREI. Another feather has been added to the MREI cap with this presentation made by Dr. Chavi. It further proves how MREI is dedicated to the cause of developing better individuals.

DR O. P. BHALLA CENTRAL LIBRARY
‘Knowledge is Wisdom’, ‘Knowledge is Power’ and no matter which part of world we come from we are the same species of human beings seeking a common goal: KNOWLEDGE. It is this knowledge that is available in plenty at the Dr O. P. Bhalla Central Library situated in the serene surroundings of the Manav Rachna International University. All you have to do is take a step forward and immerse yourself in information and the world becomes your horizon, says Yogesh Kumar, a student of Computer Science, 3rd year

eing a student we all have similar expectations from our university. As students we all want to be enriched with knowledge and wisdom to have the right to decide our own destiny as individuals. This is the mind set of anyone who is a student. Every time I decide to go to the library it almost always pertains to my area of study, but the minute I take my first step into the library : my mind begins to wander. There is so much I want to know, so much about different topics. The beautifully decorated reception thrusts that energy level and my will power to rush and explore a new lesson. Reading a new chapter every time from a unique book thrusts the will power of exploring new arrivals of books on different shelves. The library is situated at the basement of the non-engineering block of our campus. The Audio – Visual room makes the experience of discussions, debates and presentations memorable. The Library is equipped with more than 1 lakh books. A part of the collection is dedicated to course subjects because they pertain to their courses and syllabi. Most of the books are from the great writers in English, Hindi & a few other languages. In spite of the fact that there is a plethora of books on different subjects it is easy to have access to the book you are looking for because of the books are arranged subject wise in neat shelves. The entrance makes me feel confident and energetic. Your mindset changes instantly and you are geared up to explore an avenue full
of knowledge and information. All I need to do is find my favourite corner : the ones next to the windows are my favourite. The reading continues until the needle of my lecture timing ticks on my mobile clock. This library dedicated to our Founder Father, has staff which is both helpful and informative and

know very well where every book is placed but I enjoy searching the
books myself. This makes me go through various sections that remain undiscovered. I look forward to keep visiting the place and to share my potential and learning for the betterment of my world. This sharpens my skills in my field of study. I am learning I realize but I have lots to learn and explore on this unending path of knowledge. The cafeteria adds to the aura of the posh library with the smell of aromatic coffee and the tasty snacks. But full marks has to be given to the top of the line data base and information available at the library at the click of a button. Years ago when I was in school someone told me that books are a man’s best friend. At that time I wondered how could a living human being could have a best friend who has no face or breath.Today I realize how this is so very true. The Library in many ways is a stress buster. During these youthful days there are many distractions and sometimes I am faced with different situation which make be de-motivated , my visit to the library gives extra amount of energy, confidence and determination. The positivity of books gives me a different degree of fluffiness. The aura of purity and true compassion connects me with the true nature of being a human being. My favorite section is the books on spirituality. Those powerful words have the ability to direct the mind in theright direction and look at all situations with a positive mind. The Library is a lot different than class. Explore it !
THE DOS AND DON’TS OF FASHION
F
ashion is a way to express yourself without the use of words says Ragini Sharma from Team Umang, “When we enter our college life we all have the zest to look our best; and yes we all should do that too. But sometimes we overdo things and end up looking, let’s just say, not so glamourous. So as a senior I’ve lined up a few dos and don’ts that might just save your day,” says this young lady from Manav Rachna Dental College. Rule 1- Wear what you want to wear and not what others want you to wear. This is simply necessary because otherwise you will not be at ease with yourself. (But don’t forget that when coming to college a dress code should be maintained and I’m sure you understand why.)
Rule 2- Don’t use too much makeup. It makes you look artificial. (Use it to highlight your beauty that you already are not to hide it) Rule 3- Super tight t-shirts and pants do not look cool. So guys ease up a little; girls still fall for men who are well dressed. So take my advice try the semi-formal look, it always works. (Also because tight clothes make
people wonder how you manage to breathe!) Rule 4- Reveal skin strategically. This applies to guys and girls both. Over exposed chest hair and unnecessarily exposed waist do not look appealing. (Moreover, you do not want to make a perception that you have a shortage of clothes!) Rule 5- Don’t underestimate the power of traditional dressing. Ladies and gentlemen it still work wonders. (Also it always has a charm of sophistication along with it ;) ) Hope these help you out and save your days to come. It’s always good to experiment though; just remember you don’t wake up every morning to impress others.
