GENERAL ELECTION 2017 Dear neighbours and fellow community members, As you all know, this Thursday is the general election. This election couldn’t be more important both for the future of our country and for our community’s place in our great country. So much has been said and written about Jeremy Corbyn, all I would add is that if we judge a person by the company he keeps, then that tells us all we need to know about him and where his sympathies lie. Quite clearly a vote for any of his local candidates from the Labour party is a danger to all that we hold dear. Ivan Lewis, the Labour candidate in Bury South has tried to make this election about him personally and not about Corbyn. Whilst any sensible person will see through the fallacy of this argument, I would like to tackle this myth head on. Ivan makes a play of his concern for our community every time a general election rolls around. He goes to great lengths to explain that only he as a Jewish candidate understands our community’s needs. Nothing could be further from the truth. I point you to two non-Jewish Conservative MP’s in Hendon and Golders Green, Matthew Offord and Mike Freer who have been brilliant MPs and have achieved a huge amount for the Jewish community. The other choice in this election is Robert Largan, the Conservative Party candidate. I have gotten to know Robert, campaigning extensively alongside him both in Sedgley and throughout the constituency. I can honestly say that he is truly passionate about Bury South, the area he grew up in and is committed to making a real difference and being a strong voice for us in Parliament. He is incredibly keen to actively engage and learn about our community’s more specific needs and fight for these issues in Parliament. He will make a brilliant MP and will be open and accessible to all. It is my great honour to proudly stand beside him and personally recommend him as the best choice to be our next Member of Parliament. This election will be incredibly close, every vote will count and your vote could make the difference. During this General Election campaign, many supporters have told me that they want to vote for me again but are hesitant because of what's been happening in the Labour Party nationally with regard to the issue of anti-Semitism and the national leadership. As a Member of Parliament with a proud Jewish identity I have always stood up for the community and have challenged Anti-Semitism in all its forms. I would ask that you consider my twenty years of service to our community. At a time of great national uncertainty, ensuring strong local representation in Parliament is more important than ever before. My record of delivery: • As a Government Minister I delivered millions of pounds of funding to enable Mesivta School and Beis Yaakov Jewish High School to have new state of the art buildings and facilities. • I have recently worked with the community and governors to secure the future of Mesivta School. • Working with the local Labour Council I secured funding for JCOM which provides employment and advice and support to the community. • This year was the sixth year of an extra bin collection for Pesach. This has been coordinated with JCOM and Councillor Alan Quinn. • I also lobbied the Council to make sure that the Eruv was given planning permission and have sought to assist on planning applications for more synagogues in our community. • I have always ensured that extra policing has always been on hand for the Yomtovim. • I have successfully fought against threats to Schechita and Britmilah My promise for the future: I will work with the community and Bury Council to expand services to children and explore the possibility of seeking funding to develop a children’s centre to meet the specific needs of the growing Prestwich Orthodox Community. A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM YOUR CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES We are writing to you as the Conservative Candidates for Bury South and Blackley & Broughton in the general election on 8th June. Every election is important. But the stakes have never been higher and your vote has never been so critical. Voters in North Manchester and the rest of the country face a very clear choice. Those receiving postal vote ballot papers this weekend or going down to polling stations on 8th June ultimately have to decide whether they want to see Theresa May or Jeremy Corbyn become the next Prime Minister. Every vote for us as Theresa May’s local Conservative candidates is a vote for strong and stable leadership, economic competence and working to get the best possible Brexit deal. This is the man who invited Hizbollah and Hamas to Parliament and called them his friends. But this goes beyond just Mr Corbyn. As the Home Affairs Select Committee reported last year: “the failure of the Labour Party to deal consistently and effectively with anti-Semitic incidents in recent years risks lending force to allegations that elements of the Labour movement are institutionally anti-Semitic.”

As your local Conservative candidates, we submit ourselves before you for election and pledge that we will always be open and accessible to the Jewish Community holding weekly constituency surgeries and regular Jewish Community specific surgeries. Our doors will always be open to you. We realise that many of you feel deeply conflicted between national politics and personal loyalty to your local Labour representatives.
