Halls of Residence RA/JCR Students must live in the hall of the election they wish to run in, a current University of Manchester student and member of the University of Manchester Students’ Union. Principal Duties To convene projects, events, campaigns and other activities relevant to students in your hall. To represent the voice of your fellow residents in committee and students union meetings. Committee Positions President • Will oversee and coordinate the work of RA, ensuring that members of the committee deliver on their responsibilities. • Will chair meetings of the RA committee, making sure that the meeting covers all the agenda points in the time available, that all members have a say and that clear decisions are made. • Will oversee and support the preparation of the annual budget with the Treasurer. As well as being a signatory for authorising expenditure in accordance with financial regulations. • Will attend and represent the halls residents at university and union meetings.
Secretary • Will produce an agenda for RA meetings in consultation with the President. • Will maintain an attendance register at RA meetings and monitor whether a meeting is quorate. • Will take minutes at RA meetings, making particular note of decisions and action points with who is responsible for carrying them out. • Will circulate minutes to members of the committee and publish them for residents to read. • Will notify members of the committee of all meetings in advance, as well as promote general meetings to all residents in the hall.
Treasurer • Will prepare the annual budget and plan with the President, in accordance with what the committee members decide it wants to achieve over the year. • Will be one of the signatories to the RA/JCR funds at the Students Union, responsible with the President for authorising expenditure in accordance with financial regulations. • Will be responsible for maintaining transparent and robust financial records of RA/JCR incomes and expenditure. • Will maintain the asset register.
Events Coordinator (x2) • Will be responsible for the organisation, administration and running of successful, responsibly-run and well attended social events over the year. This may include parties, trips, nights-out and anything else to enhance the student experience of living in halls. • Will be responsible for developing a plan of varied social events and activities over the course of the year. • Will lead in organising the major social events of the year, such as balls, end of year parties and Welcome Week. Sport Coordinator • Will be responsible for the competitive and recreational sporting activity undertaken by the RA/JCR, including the organisation of teams in Campus Leagues and the acquisition and maintenance of sports equipment. • Will be responsible for entering the sport teams into Campus Leagues and ensuring that the hall is represented in fixtures and those residents who choose to play can participate in a team that emphasises an enjoyment of the sport.
Committee Positions {Continued} Communications Coordinator • Will promote and advertise the activities of the RA/JCR to ensure that residents are kept well informed and are given plenty of opportunity to participate. • Will create and distribute marketing materials for events and activities. • Will promote an online presence for the RA/JCR on social media and other appropriate digital media. Community Coordinator • Will run creative projects, events and campaigns to build a strong supportive community in your hall and allow residents to connect with the wider community by developing a sense of social responsibility. • Will collaborate with the Students Union Community Officer, Manchester RAG and the University’s Environmental Coordinator to promote volunteering opportunities, charitable activity and sustainable behaviour. • To direct the halls committee work on community matters, including student accommodation, crime and safety in the community. Postgrad Coordinator (where required) • Will represent postgraduates and campaign to improve the postgrad experience. • Ensure that the postgrad voice is heard within your hall and wider community. • Raise awareness of Students Union and University postgraduate activities. • To convene projects, events and campaigns relevant to the postgrads of the hall. Women’s Coordinator • To represent, advocate and campaign on the behalf of women in your hall. • To be aware of gender-related issues and to work with the committee in order to tackle them. • To convene projects, events and campaigns relevant to the women of the hall. • Will collaborate with the Students Union Women’s Officer. Equality and Diversity Coordinator • Will be responsible for the fair representation of all student groups within your hall. • Will strive to ensure that a genuine spirit of diversity and equality of opportunity is present throughout the hall. • Will ensure that the hall committee activities are accessible to and inclusive of all of its residents. • Will maintain and promote regular communications with under-represented or disadvantaged groups, in order to highlight and oppose this situation.
