Publisher’s letter
Dear reader, “Fashion is made to become unfashionable”, goes a famous adage by designer Coco Chanel. And with the changing times, when things get redundant, it is important to be experimental. With the wedding season on in full swing, there couldn’t have been a better time to come out with the first edition of Wedding Diary. Serving not only to the Indians but also all people residing in Australia and all non-resident Indians across the world, our special edit is all about multicultural weddings happening around us every day and the Diary aims to cover every aspect related to the weddings. The idea is to help our readers make a list of things that they may need to make their D-Day special. Our journey, over the last six months, has been nothing short of exhilarating as we worked towards bringing the “Australian Indian Wedding Expo” to life. We are truly grateful to all our sponsors and patrons for investing their trust in us irrespective of the fact that we’ve only just begun, and that this is our debut in this sector. Their support has made us believe that our journey has just begun and there are many more milestones to achieve. We wish you a happy reading.

Editor’s letter
To all those prepping to say I do, I would like to say: All you need is love. This iconic song by The Beatles has set the foundation of successful marriages, but what sets the stage for successful marriage celebrations is -- I am sure you will agree -- a little more than love. And that’s where wedding magazines come into the picture. It seems like yesterday that, over a series of video conferences, creative director Arun Pant and I presented our vision for Wedding Diary to the publishers. Our idea was crisp and simple — to create a handy wedding manual for Indians living abroad who are ready to tie the knot in a multicultural setting. So we scoured the world for trends and preferences, and found out that whether Asian or European, Australian or Russian, everybody wants their wedding to be unique. And this has brought us to the doorstep of all things bespoke. In our first issue, we have decided to focus on made-to-order clothes that are covetable while being affordable. This will ensure your wedding gown is unique and trousseau abundant. To add to the bespoke charm, we also have advice on what goes into the making of a perfectly tailored wedding. Plus, we tell you why a choreographer is important to help you dance up a storm at your wedding. This year’s celebrity weddings tell us that high-profile marriages seem to be made in Italy. From Amalfi Coast to Lake Como - we tell you why the Italian peninsula is luring Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities to its shores to say I do. We hope Wedding Diary will help add that quintessential romantic fairytale essence to your wedding that you have always dreamt of.

Book a photographer who can showcase your personality Framed for Life First things first. You need to book a photographer who can showcase your personality. Once you have browsed through someone’s work, you should have a fair idea about the kind of pictures that you might be able to get. Remember, showing a photographer if he/she can replicate somebody else’s style is not what you want to do. It is only going to leave you disappointed in the end, and you will blame the photographer for your own bad judgement. Once you can visualise yourself in the photographer’s existing body of work, you have found the right match for your photoshoot. Wedding Diary / oct 2018

Dress Matters The outfit and the shoes you wear, the accessories (necklace, earrings, veil, etc), the make-up and the hairstyle – all depend on whether it is to be a casual or full bridal shoot. It is important to start thinking about it early so that you can start sourcing suitable items. It is very important to select the location of the shoot because the outfits, accessories and make-up should match with the ambiance, atmosphere and theme of the shoot. It is important to have regular brainstorming sessions and meetings with your photographer, stylist and make-up artist, so you can discuss the arrangements for the shoot. When deciding on a suitable outfit, bear in mind if the shoot is indoors or outdoors. Brightly coloured clothing works well in an urban location, while formal locations are a great backdrop for a wedding gown and suit. Also, it is important to choose outfits that compliment the shape of your body and are in tune with the backdrop or theme of the shoot. Above all, clothing should be comfortable and in tune with the seasons and occasion. For example:
When deciding on a suitable outfit, bear in mind if the shoot is indoors or outdoors
01 • F or a summer shoot, go for flowy fabrics and focus on colour and print – whether it is a short summer dress, a floral midi skirt with top, or a versatile maxi dress
02 • S arees and Anarkali gowns are great choices for a monsoon shoot Wedding Diary / oct 2018
03 • Autumn is a favoured season for outdoor shoots because you can shoot at any location. Everything from formal evening gowns to a short party dress with high heels, jeans and lehengas can work 40

04 • B racelets and necklaces can be customised to add silver or gold charm motifs which grant luck or carry personal meaning
02 • A n offbeat addition to your attire could be a belt or a traditional kamarbandh. There is also a wide variety of modern waist belts by new-age designers. Belts can range from zardosi to fabric to kundan and pearls and come in numerous patterns and designs
03 • B racelets, arm cuffs and brooches for sombre, formal shoots Wedding Diary / oct 2018
The photographs from your prewedding shoot will be the memories you keep forever, so it is vital to figure out how to accessorise for your shoot. Jewellery is the centerpiece of Indian weddings and a pre-wedding shoot is an excellent opportunity to upgrade your trinkets. What jewellery you wear depends on your outfit. Some ideas: 42

Beauty and Make Up Preps The fine and refined garments and jewellery can only go so far. Body care and make-up are the other elements in the perfect shoot. Your make-up has to be beautiful, comfortable and resilient, because you have to wear it for a long time. It is a good idea to invest in finely milled, non-comedogenic pigments sitting lightly in bases that protect and nourish your skin. Here are some tips to help you look your best in time for the shoot:
Your make-up has to be resilient, because you have to wear it for a long time

haute Couture
A tailor-
made tale The concept of haute couture came into the bridal fashion scene because of the growing demand for handmade dresses and suits. We list the benefits of custom-made clothing and what takes it a notch higher than others Words: Arun Pant The wedding trousseau plays a pivotal role in bringing your special day to life and gives a signature to the couple about to take their vows. In many cases, the bride and the groom are remembered by how spectacular they looked during their wedding, and what they wore gets the majority of attention. Hence the dressmaking business in the bridal world is thriving because of the growing demand of custom-made clothing. Nothing can beat the finesses of a well stitched, figure flattering garment. And that’s the reason why more and more fashion conscious people are opting for customised clothes, thus making the design business flourish.

Each piece has its own story to tell
It is custom-made so no duplication If you visit a designer and ask them to create a certain style suiting your sensibilities, the look is going to be one-ofits-kind and you won’t find a similar piece in the market. Each piece has its own story to tell. The process is so organic and meticulous that duplication is nearly impossible. It is how imaginations and lifelong fantasies take shape so the couple do not have to worry about someone else wearing the same piece. Matrimonial
Movements Weddings signify a lifelong commitment to a person. And what better way there is, to say, ‘I’ll always have time for you’, than gifting your significant other a timeless classic? We take a look at five time pieces that would make the big day memorable for you.

Patek Philippe – Grand complication 5160/500G Amongst one of the most expensive watches ever created by the Swiss powerhouse, the Grand Complication features a perpetual calendar with a retrograde date hand. It features an engraved back, which is a throwback to the pocket watches designed by the brand in the previous century. The hand engraved dial, lugs and crown along with the protective back cover are testimony to the sheer opulence of the watch. If indulgence is an important aspect of the big day, then this is the watch that would make heads turn. In addition it also does an important duty to perfection – telling the time right.
Vacheron Constantine – Patrimony Traditionelle Tourbillon Released in the mid-2000s the Patrimony Traditionelle, comes in two variants - Rose Gold and Platinum. Born out of the factories of the oldest watchmakers in the world. The watch comes with a 250 – hour power reserve and has thirty jewels. The power reserve is a homage to the 250th year anniversary of the brand. The solid gold used in the watch along with the large tourbillion movement accentuates the simplicity of the dial. Unlike other watches made by Vacheron Constantin, it does not sport a perpetual calendar or a split-second chronograph. All it does is show the time – in a classy way of course.

Lahnge and Sohne – 1815 Homage to Walter Lange A modern release (2017), the watch is a tribute to Walter Lange, and his fascination for the ‘Jumping seconds movement’. Incidentally the movement was designed by Ferdinand Lange a century and half ago. The 60 – hour power reserve watch comes in White Gold, Pink Gold and Rose Gold variants with a total of 253 components (36 jewels). The dial, minimalist in itself, features a second, stoppable deadbeat seconds counter. The watch features a new movement – L1924, which is a homage to Walter Lange, who was born in 1924. The extra seconds hand is a vital component to ensure last minute preparations are completed on time on the big day.
3
Panerai – Luminor Marina 1950 (3 Days)
4
The detailed specifications in the name is a sign that the watch itself is very meticulous and detailed in its presentation and looks. Perfect for the big day, the watch features the new P.3001 caliber movement with a separate, small seconds hand at 9 o’clock on the main dial. The back of the case has a separate hand that shows the power reserve of three days directly. Classy and rugged, the 47mm watch has been a mainstay at weddings owing to their accuracy and excessive emphasis on perfection.
IWC Schaffenhausen – Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon Edition “150 Years” One of the highlights of their collection that released in 2017 the perpetual Calendar Tourbillon runs a new movement – Caliber 51950. Simple, clean and efficient – some of the highlights of the Swiss watchmaker – the elements are visible in the white lacquer dial housed in a case of Red Gold. Smaller dials feature the moonphase, the day, date, month and year along with the tourbillon movement. A perfect combination of tradition infused with modernity, the watch is sure to be the highlight of the big day.

In addition, the bezel features 32 princess cut diamonds, the 18k white gold case set has an addition 34 round, brilliant cut diamonds. The strap and deployment clasp are in 18k white gold too, giving the watch a sophisticated one of a kind look. Bulgari Serpenti Seduttori
3
Bulgari’s iconic design- the Serpenti has had many iterations since the inception of the design in the early 60s. Joining the long and proud lineage, the Seduttori, does not disappoint. With a16carat sapphire sitting on the serpent’s head, and 197 brilliant, baguette-cut white diamonds, the Seduttori is a perfect fit for a wedding with a hint of old world charm. Whilst it features a quartz movement, the dazzling array of stones that adorn the face and the bracelet of the watch are more than capable of making up for any loss of traditional Swiss movements one may feel whilst wearing it.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Grand Reverso Lady Ultra Thin Duetto A design that has stood the test of time itself. The Grand Reverso by Jaeger has been around long enough to see the changes that have come in the world of horological movements. Perfect for the big day, the ultra thin watch with a thickness of 9mm, is housed in a 18k pink gold case. Other accents include a sunray, brushed dial with a mother-of-pearl highlight on the back dial. The watch combines the design aesthetics with the time tested 864A calibre movement, and a rose gold folding buckle on the brown alligator strap. A perfect watch for the big day.

If captured right, it’s a stunning and lifetime memory that generations will cherish forever, which is why we suggest, invest in a cinematographer. The trend of hiring and investing in wedding cinematographers has become quite popular in the past five years. We tell you the interesting ways in which a cinematographer can bring your wedding film to life.

BACKSTAGE BASH There is a lot that goes on backstage at weddings. The decorations, the food, the attire, the rituals, all of these serve as a cinematographer’s playground from where he/she picks the most interesting and intense candid shots. A wedding film presents everything in the most spectacular way and it’s no less than watching a movie on the big screen. 62

Freeze Frame You definitely do not want your wedding to be on the lines of the film Matrix, but taking inspiration from it to add an element of fantasy to your wedding won’t do any harm. Take for instance the movie’s freeze frame shots. A wedding cinematographer can immortalise a lovely moment for you through it.
Make everyone sit down to watch a preview of the day-that-was
On The Spot Same day editing is where your team of cinematographers gather footage before and during the wedding ceremony. Then while your guests are stuffing themselves silly at the reception buffet, one of them scampers away to condense the footage into a mini highlights reel. Later in the evening, preferably before your wedding party has reached peakinebriation levels, you have everyone sit down to watch a preview of the daythat-was.

Dance up a storm
A dance to remember:
Your choreographer makes sure your wedding dances become the talk of the town
Choosing the right song
Wedding day gives us some really fond memories that we can cherish all our lives. We always want it to be the best and leave no stone unturned to make it a memorable experience. From the extravagant decor to the stunning wedding dresses to sumptuous food, we spend months preparing for the D-day. And dance remains an integral part of any wedding. Be it sangeet or cocktail or reception, friends and relatives of the bride
Many a time, song selection goes wrong and may not be that entertaining. Therefore, a wedding choreographer is much-needed, if only to tell us about the songs which are popular for weddings these days and songs that can keep the audience entertained. W e d d i n g D i a r Y / o ct 2 0 1 8

and groom come together to perform a dance act for the newly married couple. Beacuse not every member of the family may be a good dancer, the choreographer plays a major role here. They fix everyone’s dance moves and make sure the performance is in sync. The role of a dance choreographer becomes pertinent for any wedding. We list down why a wedding choreographer is a musthave for your D-day.

Knowing the strength and weakness of the dancing group A choreographer can segregate good dancers and the not-so-good ones, and place them accordingly in the act so that the attention only goes to the people who can dance well, while the others can be in the background.
Giving motivation A lot of times, friends and relatives of the bride and groom take these dance performances lightly and don’t put in so much effort in practising to get the act right. A dance choreoghapher can be motivating in this case, because once they are hired, they make sure that everyone comes for practice sessions, and the act is presented in a professional way. The performers should not be forgetting their steps.
Helps with steps They are always there to tell you about the easy or difficult steps. They assign steps depending on how good or bad the dancers are. Without a choreoghapher, the group might not be able to come up with so many ideas related to the steps.

Wedding planning is a big part of the event management industry: thoroughly professional wedding planners often hold degrees and diplomas from reputable institutes.
