Manger sound transducer – It’s all a matter of time ? Dipl.-Ing. Daniela Manger Owner&C.E.O. Manger Products, www.manger-msw.com

The daughter of the inventor of the Manger Sound Transducer (MSW), Josef Manger, clearly explains the importance of sound and functioning of our hearing. The relationships between the acoustic sound events and the physilogy of listening have been the basis for developing the Manger Sound Transducer and the associated significance of ‘time behavior’ for loudspeakers. The Manger Sound Transducer (MSW) is based on the principle of bending waves that run from the center of a plate membrane based, outward, like water ripples after a stone’s throw. The rigidity of this thin bendable plate increases from the inside out in an equal ratio, quite similar, as is also the case of the basilar membrane in our ear. High frequencies travel in the inner area of the membrane rapidly, while long waves (low frequencies) run concentric to the edge of the star damper where they are absorbed, so that they cannot become into reflections back from the edge. This way, sound reproduction is much closer to the ideal of the point sound source. Manger is considered as the pioneer and one of the first advocates of “real time” playback. The structure of the Manger Sound Transducer, (MSW) with theoretical descriptions, will be explained in detail. The duration of the presentation is about 60 minutes, with lively discussion a little longer. The event is public, and all interested persons are invited to attend.
