TREES abacus

1 ELM (olmo)

The USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map divides Europe into 13 zones, based on the average annual minimum winter temperature. Each zone is, on average, 10 degrees warmer or colder in the winter than the zone next to it, with Zone 1 being the coldest and Zone 13 the hottest. Piacenza Zone 8a: -12.2°C to -9.4°C

Slow grower Hardiness Zones: 4 to 9 Size: 12 to 18 meters tall and wide. It can reach 12 meters high while boasting a 15 meters canopy. Some exceptional trees can hit heights of 25 meters. On average, they grow 1.5 meters per year once established and can achieve a crown of 9 meters within 12 years.

2 BIRCH (betulla) Hardiness Zones: 4 to 9 Size: 12 to 20 meters The betulla is a highly resitent tree, it adapt itself to really different kind of environment. It is important to be enlighted strongly by solar radiation. White-barked birches in particular are cultivated as ornamental trees, largely for their appearance in winter. Excellent filters for urban pollutants and fine particulates. 4
