Trustee Report The Maniapoto Fisheries Trust Group consists of the Maniapoto Fisheries Trust (MFT) and its wholly owned subsidiary, Te Kupenga Ĺ? Maniapoto Limited (TKoML). The Group is responsible for managing the Maniapoto fisheries assets that were allocated and transferred to Maniapoto in March 2007, as a result of the Treaty of Waitangi Maniapoto Fisheries Settlement, which concluded in 2004. The settlement assets comprised of Annual Catch Entitlement (ACE) fishing quota, Income Shares in Aotearoa Fisheries Ltd and cash. The cash ($1,219,825.75) was vested in the MFT whilst the ACE fishing quota and AFL shares (4,543) were vested in TKoML. MMTB Trustees appointed as representatives on TKoML were Piki Knap and Glen Katu until July 2015, Bella Takiari-Brame and Glenn Tootill from July 2015. The charitable purpose of the Maniapoto Fisheries Trust has remained constant in the 7 years since it was established: To receive, hold, manage and administer the Trust Fund for every Charitable purpose benefiting Maniapoto whether it relates to the relief of poverty, the advancement of education or religion or any other matters beneficial to the community of Maniapoto and all the members of Maniapoto irrespective of where those members reside.
Regulatory Reporting Requirements As a mandated iwi organisation the MFT is required to report on specific activities relating to its fisheries settlement assets. No settlement quota has been traded or exchanged during 2014-15. No interests have been registered over settlement quota. No income shares held in Aotearoa Fisheries Ltd have been sold, acquired or exchanged during 2014-15. Further to this there have been no changes to the constitutional documents of the MFT or TKoML.
Trustee Report
Tribal Register
The MFT is required in its Deed to maintain a register of beneficiaries. We refer to this as the tribal register. As at September 2015, the tribal register had 19,535 members (2014: 18,845). This is an increase of 690 members (3.7%) over the previous 12 months. During the 2014-15 year the tribal register was accessed for three key activities:
The distribution of scholarships and grants - in order to check entitlement to grants and scholarships
The tri-ennial general election of Maniapoto Maori Trust Board trustees - in order to check voting eligibility and send out voting packs to those with verified addresses
To distribute e-communications to those with email addresses
The tribal register also assists us in knowing where whānau live. This information along with census information helps us decide where taurahere hui, like the Maniapoto 2050 hui in October and November 2015, should be held. So, I encourage all whānau to register on the tribal register. By doing so, whānau are registering their entitlement to contribute to Maniapoto key matters and also to participate fully as a tribal beneficiary. If you are already registered please check your contact information is up to date. 3

Maniapoto Iwi Demographic Profile During the year, we updated our iwi demographic profile using the 2013 NZ Census statistics. The Maniapoto Iwi Demographic Profile was first prepared in 2009 as part of the Maniapoto Hauora Report. At that time tt drew on 2006 Census information and Waikato District Health Board health information and data. Some key facts:
5.3% (35,358) of the total Maori population in Aotearoa affiliate to Maniapoto : an 1731 increase since the 2006 census.
33.8% (11,955) of all Maniapoto people live in the Waikato region : so two hours or less from the Maniapoto rohe.
9% (3147) live in the Maniapoto rohe (i.e. Waitomo and Otorohanga districts). So, over 90% of the Maniapoto population live outside of the rohe and that does not include the many tribal members who live abroad, particularly in Australia.
34.6% of the Maniapoto iwi population were under the age of 15, 23.5% aged between 15 -29, and 36.8% aged from 30-64 years. This means we have a relatively young population with an average age of 23.6 years old.
26% of our people could hold a conversation in te reo Māori - this is a decrease from 27% in the 2006 census
our average income was $22,300 compared with $28,500 for the total NZ population.
There is alot more of this type of information including housing and employment statistics. It is all useful in terms of identifying need and tracking whether collectively things are improving or not for our people.

I encourage you to contact our office if you have any rangatahi, kapahaka and/ or kaumātua events planned during this year. We have set aside dedicated grant pools to support these areas. Paimarire
R Tiwha Bell (Trustee Chairman)
Te Nehenehenui Tribal Festival Over 500 people attended the second annual Te Nehenehenui Tribal Kapahaka Festival in Piopio in September 2015. Organisers had anticipated a great crowd but these numbers were overwhelming, easily filling and at times overfilling the Piopio Memorial Hall during the day. A total of eight groups competed across three sections: Karanga Tamariki, Karanga Rangatahi and Karanga Pakeke. The groups performed a full 30 minute bracket including Whakaeke (entrance) Waiataa-ringa (action song), Haka, Whakawātea (exit) with particular emphasis on Karanga, Whaikōrero, Haka Pōwhiri and Moteatea which were the aggregate items that determined the overall placings. These items and overall performances align to Te Rautaki Reo a te Nehenehenui - Maniapoto Reo Strategy. Ngā Tamariki o te Kura ō Aria were first time performers at the festival and took out the Karanga Tamariki section, followed closely by Te Kura Rau Tau coming in second, and Te Wharekura ō Maniapoto placed third. In the Karanga Rangatahi section, Te Wharekura ō Maniapoto took first place, and Te Kuititanga ō ngā Maunga came second overall. Another new team to the festival, Maniapoto ki Tāmaki entered into the Karanga Pakeke section and was placed third overall, Te Haona Taha coming in second and Tamarau taking the first placing. MFT has had the privelege of providing grants and sponsorships to events such as this over the past several years and hope to continue supporting these great initiatives in the future.
6
Maniapoto Kaumātua Games The Kaumātua Games held in Te Kuiti every year, have been running since 2008, and have always had a great turnout of our kaumātua within the rohe, this year was no different. A total of 14 teams participated totalling over 80 participants as well as support people and spectators. This year also saw teams join from Paeroa and Taumarunui, and locals from Benneydale, Otorohanga and Te Kuiti. Organised by the Kaumātua Games Committee, support was also provided by many organisations to make the day a success. In order for the Kaumatua Games to operate, funding is provided by a range of sponsors of which Maniapoto Māori Trust Board are Congratulations to the two first place groups that represented the Ngāti Maniapoto Marae Pact Trust Life Style Group. This year (2016), the committee aim to hold the Kaumatua Games just before the Te Kawau Maro Sports Festival so that kaumātua will be able to nominate a marae for participation points.
