Requirements of Finish Higher Education:

Bachelor’s:

An upper secondary school certificate or equivalent is required to apply for a bachelor’s degree programme in Finland. Universities of Applied Science: • Bachelor's degrees are comprised of 210–270 ECTS credits • The duration of the course ranges from 3.5 - 4.5 years, depending on the degree programme Universities: • Bachelor's degrees are comprised of 180 ECTS credits • The duration of the course is 3 years • University bachelor’s degrees generally offers continuation to a master’s degree

Requirements of Finish Higher Education:

Master’s:

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is needed to apply for a master’s degree programme. University of Applies Science: • It comprises of 60–90 ECTS credits • The duration of the course ranges from 1-1.5 years to complete • At least 3 years of work experience in the same field is required Universities: • It comprises of 120 ECTS credits • The duration of the course is 2 years

Ph.D.:

A master’s degree is required to apply for a doctoral degree programme. Universities: • The duration for this degree • The duration for doctoral degree around 4 • It comprises of 240 ECTS credits


Scholarships to study in Finland Universities: For Bachelor’s and Master’s: Finnish higher education institutions offer a range of scholarship options for those non-EU/EEA students who are required to pay tuition fees. The kinds of scholarship available and any tuition fees you are expected to cover will depend on the institution and the degree programme in question. You need to apply for the scholarship at the same time when you apply for admission. At bachelor’s level, institutions offer scholarships of 45-50% per year and for master’s, institutions offer scholarships ranging from 50% of the tuition fees to 100%. It covers the tuition fees in a 2-year master’s programme plus, the living costs for EUR 5 600,00 per year. For Ph.D.: In Finland, the universities do not charge tuition fees for doctoral degree programmes. Although, National scholarship schemes such as EDUFI scholarships are still available for doctoral level studies and research.


Stay Permits in Finland: In Finland, Non-EU/EEA students need a student residence permit. Once you receive your official letter of acceptance, you can begin the student residence permit application online and visit the Finnish embassy or consulate as part of this process. Start your residence permit process as soon as possible, so that you can receive your permit in good time before your studies begin. After your graduation, you can apply for an extension of your residence permit to look for work or start a business.


Internship Opportunities: The residence permit for studies enables you to work without restrictions if your work is related practical training and thesis work. You are allowed to work for 25 hours per week during your study term and 40 hours per week during vacations.
