Motion & Music Academy Choir, Drumming, and Dance ➢
The Mann Center’s Motion & Music Academy is a year-round, out-of-school time program designed to provide access to excellent, culturally-responsive arts education through quality choir, drumming, and dance classes.

This highly popular program focuses on serving 4th through 8th grade students in the Parkside neighborhood in West Philadelphia, an area of concentrated economic distress and educational inequity. Studies indicate that middle school students, Grades 6-8, are at greatest risk for sliding back from achievement in mathematics, language arts, visual arts, and musical competency.

The Mann has partnered with the Philadelphia Ballet, Sister Cities Girl Choir, and Mad Beatz Philly to deliver long-term arts education and concert experiences. The program began as a hybrid in September 2020 and continued virtually during the COVID-19 lock down. We are now in person and the students are signing up in record numbers! Join us for a rehearsal on Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons.

All City Orchestra Summer Academy(ACOSA) ➢
All City Orchestra Summer Academy at the Mann (ACOSA) is a two-week summer orchestra training camp for young local instrumentalists.
➢
The Mann Center, in partnership with The Philadelphia Orchestra, the School District of Philadelphia, and Project 440, collaborated to launch a high-quality orchestra training experience, free of charge, to local music students.
➢
ACOSA is designed to serve students from 6th grade to 12th grade to provide a growth opportunity by guiding students to work on technical playing ability and team playing skills throughout the summer. The program prevents students “Summer Slide” which happens when formal lessons subside when the school year ends.

This past year, ACOSA was featured on the CBS Evening News and on Philadelphia Public Radio (WHYY).

Music Industry Training Program (MITP) A Workforce Development Initiative ➢
2020 launched the Mann’s first workforce development program - Music Industry Training Program (MITP) - with its first cohort of student participants in 2021 at the historic Overbrook High School in Parkside.
➢
This district is challenged by high poverty (31.2%) and a low median household income ($27,914), leaving students with few resources available after school to access quality arts programming.
➢
Overbrook High School boasts famous alumni including musician/actor Will Smith, and astronaut Guion Bluford, the first African American in space, among many other noted alumni. However, the school has seen decreasing graduation rates and enrollment since 2014, with only 50% of students on track to graduate and 33% planning to continue their education in college.
➢
The Mann believes that MITP can intervene in Overbrook High School to increase students' engagement in classrooms and motivation to succeed in a music industry career. The program partners with the Mann's booking partner Live Nation to place students for job experience that will build resumes and allow students to see new futures within the industry.
