EARTH YEAR

Welcome to our annual Sustainability Issue, always scheduled for April in honor of Earth Day.

We’ve been writing about sustainability for years, including solar panels, wind turbines and more. As you’ll see, this month, our contributors really got into the heart of the matter, discussing the practical aspects of creating projects that are good for their users as well as the planet. Kova’s Dan Sullivan discusses how flexible design can make a project adaptable and, thus, sustainable for decades to come, while Spectorgroup’s Steven South offers thoughts about the use of strategic space planning in eco-friendly design. Heather Smith of American Sealants tells us about the value of water in buildings for wellness.

Elsewhere, our columnists offer their views on the tax benefits of clean vehicles, crime prevention and efficient closings on condos and co-ops, among other topics.

And it’s always a pleasure to speak with Pam Swidler for our cover story, which shows how a crisis can help a team not just survive but thrive.

There’s a lot to unpack this month. Enjoy!
