Robert Cavalli Triple RRR

Born in the Tuscan city from Roberto and Eva Cavalli, Robert Cavalli moved to England at a very young age to enter boarding school. This exciting and lifechanging adventure deeply influenced his personality and aesthetic vision enabling him to mature an open-minded attitude infused with both rigorous discipline and frisky creativity.

A graduated from a prestigious London school, where he studied business and marketing, Robert Cavalli developed a very personal and unique style, which he is now infusing in his new TRIPLE RRR fashion label. We sat down with Robert while he visited New York.

Q: When did you know you wanted to be a designer and why?

A: Growing up in Florence, the heart of where some of Italy’s finest craftsmen and talents originate, I have been exposed to some of the greats in art and culture since birth. Of course, fashion and design are in my DNA.

Q: How would you describe your brand to a total stranger who doesn't follow fashion?

A: I would describe Triple RRR as elegant lounge and sportswear for a man who is comfortable in who he is with a daring sense of individuality.

Q: What is your favorite men's piece for FW19 and why?

A: I don’t have one particular favorite piece from my collections. I put the same energy into developing each design, each print and silhouette. Every single piece is a part of a reflection of my full vision.

The fall collection is largely focused around the robe. Traditionally, robes are something to be worn at home. However, I like the idea of wearing a robe out to dinner or to the theatre. It’s not a beautiful coat that you should remove at dinner because otherwise it would be awkward; and it’s not a jacket either. It’s something that can be both elegant and comfortable.

Q: You have a magic credit card that will let you swipe 1 time at any story (fashion brand) where do you swipe it and what do you pick-up?

A: As I wear all of my own designs, even customized shoes that will be included in the styling of the next collection, I’m not sure that I would shop for myself.

I would most likely shop for a gift for my mother, who has been and continues to be one of my greatest supports. I would find her something special from an Italian brand because it’s important that we support all of our local artisans. Perhaps I’d find her something special from our local Santa Maria Novella, or a bespoke handbag and luggage set from Valextra.

Q: Any fun Summer travel plans or Summer vacation memories?

A: It’s still too soon for me to finalize my summer plans. I’ve been focusing all of my creative efforts in the next collection which will show during Pitti Uomo, where I first launched Triple RRR.

I will spend my summer holidays around the Mediterranean because there is nothing more beautiful than the sight and smell of the sun and the sea. This is also a great place to wear Triple RRR.

Q: Any Famous last words?

A: “Something small and simple.” I say this but then it always turns into a party.
