(Charity No. 291222)

WASSUP - We Are PATRICK Award-winning youth social action projects created and delivered by young people in Ipswich with three principle aims: •

Educate peers on the issues of sexual exploitation, domestic abuse, honour based violence and gang grooming

Lobby for changes to social policy and practice on these issues promoting young people’s voice

Raise awareness in the wider community on these issues

The groups have collectively built a toolkit which they deliver in 90 minute sessions in schools across Suffolk based on the life of a fictional character called Astra and her brother Patrick, using film, spoken verse, imagery and flashcards they have created to journey young people though various decision-making scenarios based on their lives. Astra and Patrick are real, made up of composite parts of the group’s life. The toolkits inform young people of the risks and impact of their decisions and addresses difficult issues with authenticity of young people’s insights and knowledge. The groups deliver the toolkit to year 5/6 and 9/10 young people themselves across Ipswich.

18 Ipswich Music Day 2019

@IpswichEnts

www.IpswichEntertains.co.uk

This year BBC Radio Suffolk welcomes the always entertaining and ever popular Soul Kitchen back to the fold. They have chalked up nearly as many Ipswich Music Day appearances as I have (and that’s saying something) and I had no hesitation in inviting Ed Chef and his crew to round things off with what I know will be a sensational set of soul, disco and ska.

Also returning to our stage are East Town Pirates. Fronted by the LUCKY NO. 7 inimitable Rikki Flag, they have SOUL KITCHEN forged a special place in the hearts of local music fans. They owe much to their punk roots which are never far away in their rollicking set of nautical themed material. In many ways they have taken over where early IMD favourites Salty Dogs left off. Three of our acts this year are making their BBC Radio Suffolk stage debuts. Singer Jade Mayjean needs no introduction to Suffolk music fans or those further afield. Five years ago she made a huge impact with her appearances on BBC TV’s The Voice and since then, to her great credit, has done her own thing, writing and recording her own impressive material. Last year she released her debut album 20Sixty and songs from that are sure to feature this afternoon. The rock covers band Lucky No. 7 secured their place on our stage thanks in no small part to their stunning set at last summer’s Ipswich Maritime Festival. With singer Nick Locke at the helm they are guaranteed crowd pleasers. Also making their debut on our stage are opening act Tim Ainslie and the Vibes. Guitarist Tim is one of Ipswich’s most popular musicians and he’ll have former Rory Gallagher and Nine Below Zero drummer Brendon O’Neill in the engine room. Following Tim Ainslie and the Vibes will be two singers signed to Steve Mann’s

17.00 18.00

Backwater label. Vocalist/pianist Reb Capper and singer/guitarist Belinda Gillett have very different styles but both write beautiful songs. Belinda is enjoying a new lease of life having put music on the backburner for a few years while Reb continues to come up with quirky songs that deserve national recognition. Finally we welcome back the not so shy and retiring Matt White with his Emulsions – Stevie Doherty on guitar, Pat Grueber on bass and Paul Read on drums. Matt first caught the eye locally with Swagger way back in the 1990s and like Belinda Gillett took a break from live music only to return with his batteries fully re-charged and sounding even better. I’ll be sharing compere duties this afternoon with our Sunday morning presenter Wayne Bavin and we’re both looking forward to another wonderful Ipswich Music Day. Stephen Foster
