$12 Million a year Back to Your Communities That’s why the South San Joaquin Irrigation District has worked so hard to become the electric provider for Manteca, Escalon and Ripon. As a public power agency, we will set electric rates 15% below PG&E’s, saving significant money for the households, businesses, city governments, non-profit agencies and schools we will serve every year. All told, SSJID’s lower rates will save your communities approximately $12 million a year.

Linda Knoll Linda Knoll believes seasonal fruits, vegetables, and other produce from local farms

play an important part of a healthy, ethical diet. Encouraging children to eat local food in harmony with the seasons, her book Patient for Pumpkins tells the story of T.J., a boy who accompanies his father to the farmers’ market and enjoys the changes in fruits and vegetables as the year progresses. Families looking to introduce the concept of seasonal availability of produce to young children will be delighted by this children’s book by Linda L. Knoll, a lifelong resident of Northern California who is a professionally trained artist with a teaching credential.

Ryan Goldsberry As a young boy, Ryan Goldsberry spent most of his time drawing portraits of his favorites, the Ninja Turtles, Star Wars and of course, Mr. T (google him). Now that he’s old, he’s found that the subjects of his drawings really haven’t changed all that much. At some point he also realized that he needed a respectable job so he works as an animator making video games. Most recently he worked on Tomb Raider. That’s right! He got to make everybody’s favorite video game heroine move, walk and talk! Ryan has a wife and five kids, which technically, makes him insane. But he also feels it qualifies him to make children’s books. He hopes his books will make bedtime more bearable for all you kids and parents alike.

Rick Goldsberry Rick Goldsberry loves kids, stories, and humor— not necessarily in that order. He has written jokes for comedians, radio programs, and nationally syndicated cartoonists and at one time was a syndicated cartoonist himself. He is mesmerized by stories, he loves to read them and write them. Rick has done extensive field work in childology. Kids and teenagers—two different species—surround him. He has substitutetaught kids in all grades; he hires teenagers at his fast food restaurant; and he has six kids of his own. He can’t get enough of kids—until he collapses in bed at night.

Maya Torngren Maya Torngren, author of Maya: The Story of a German War Bride is the life story of a German girl growing up in Germany during Hitler’s regime. She spent the night of her fifteenth birthday huddled in the basement with her family as her home town of Augsburg suffered its largest air raid of the war, during the coldest night of that year. Life was very interesting for the teenager after the war ended and the American troops entered the city, bringing with them the Big Band Sound. Five years after the war, she met and married an American soldier. Moving to America was just the beginning of many different experiences that awaited her. When the couple had four children, aged thirteen, twelve, nine, and six, they left the U.S. to embark on an elevenmonth, once-in-a-lifetime trip to Africa, the Canary Islands, and Europe. Four years after their return to the U.S., they moved to California, where they remain to this day. Sadly, a few years later, tragedy struck the family. The book ends 60 years later on Maya’s 75th birthday. Available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Raley’s.

Paula Treick DeBoard Paula Treick DeBoard lives, teaches, and writes in Northern California, although her fiction often takes her to out-of-the-way places, real and imagined. Paula is the author of the critically-acclaimed novel The Mourning Hours (Mira, 2013) and The Fragile World (Mira, October 2014). She has recently signed a two-book deal for novels to be released in 2015 and 2016—which means that for the next two years, she can be found staring at her laptop screen in various local coffeehouses. In the in-between moments, Paula teaches composition at San Joaquin-Delta Community College and attempts to update her website, www.paulatreickdeboard.com, her Twitter account, @ HerPlotThickens, and her Facebook page. She is supported in these pursuits by her husband Will, two small dogs with surprisingly vicious barks, and a cat.

Margie Vieira Margie Vieira is happily married to a most patient man. She has three amazing daughters who never allow her to forget what life is all about. Living in Northern California has enabled the author to see a broad spectrum of nature. She grew up on a dairy surrounded by farm land as far as the eye can see. Most importantly, “family” was the keyword and foundation to her upbringing. Writing her first novel broadened her path of thinking. Once she believed that all life had to offer was what she saw right in front of her, until Seeing Again opened her eyes to endless possibilities.
