As a grower-owned cooperative and a global business, Blue Diamond is deeply committed to growing, operating, and innovating in ways that produce a positive economic, social, and environmental impact.
In our processing plants, Blue Diamond employs a continuous improvement process in its operations, seeking to reduce inputs and waste while improving quality and safety. Our tenured, expert team members are one of our greatest assets and our facility teams support our sustainability initiatives and implementation on the ground. Blue Diamond Growers facilities address sustainability through green building, green manufacturing, sustainability metric measurement and tracking (carbon, energy, waste, and water), and team member and community engagement.

Recent Awards
• The Turlock facility earned distinction as Green Business Certified by the California Green Business Network of Stanislaus County (June 2021).
• The Salida facility earned distinction as first Green Business Certified facility by the California Green Business Network of Stanislaus County (April 2021).
• The Salida facility received the City of Modesto Business Recycling Award to celebrate accomplishments in finding ways to reduce waste and be resource efficient (September 2020).
• $746,000 of funding awarded by California Energy Commission for our project to reduce GHG emissions through replacement and modernization of steam boiler system (March 2019).
Green Building
• Adhere to CALGreen building standards which includes energy, water and resource efficiency, water and material conservation, and environmental quality measures.
• 2,400 lineal feet of buried perforated pipe for stormwater detention and groundwater recharge.
• LED lighting with smart controls/sensors.
• Curtailed refrigeration systems in cold storage during peak energy demand timeframes and air cooled warehouses when possible.
Green Manufacturing
• Programmable and computerized controls for production equipment and utilities with motor efficiency upgrades and variable frequency drives.
• Battery powered forklift fleet.
• Recovery of by-product and by-product use innovations.
Facility Sustainability Teams
• Teams in place at all three facilities that identify, develop, and implement sustainability initiatives such as improving our recycling and landfill diversion programs
• Successful programs include switching from disposable to reusable boot covers and Super Sacks donation that diverted 17.57 tons from landfill.
• Engage all team members in community giving and volunteering opportunities.
