Award-winning bands from GK Music to share faire stage Sharing the stage and limelight at the Manteca Street Fair this weekend are several up-andcoming musicians, bands, and singers from GK Music. Below are just two of the GK Music solo performers and two bands who will be entertaining the thousands of revelers in the downtown business district of The Family City.

Dreama Dia The Crossroads of California Street Fair is Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Manteca. Admission is free.
C A R N I V A L
u DREAMA DIAZ: Dreama Diaz, at only 13 years of age, is one of the youngest solo artists at GK Music. She may be young but she can definitely keep up with the older kids. She plays guitar, piano, and drums and is also a singer. She fronts a band called Apex and teams up for duets with her little brother, Omar, who plays drums. Dreama has a bright future in music ahead of her and is playing solo shows all over town.
Neon Strings
is a teacher as well as a student. She is a solo artist and, at the same time, spends a lot of time writing and performing with multiple bands. She will be furthering her music education at the University of the Pacific in the fall. Olivia is currently producing her first CD, “Unconventional,” herself and hopes to have it released by the end of this summer.

The Crossroads Street Fair carnival is today through Sunday at the Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley in front of the former Best Buy store at Union Road and the 120 Bypass.
u OLIVIA HIGBY: Olivia Higby, 17, is described as a very diverse musician. She plays guitar, piano, ukulele, trombone, flute, and is a singer as well. She is very involved in GK Music and
u TIME FRAME: Time Frame is a Latin/funk band from GK Music that has been going strong for the last two and a half years. Its members’ ages range from 13 to 19. Time Frame is a five-member band made up of: Andrea Martinez (vocals), Olivia Higby (keyboard, guitar, vocals), Allison Boyd (bass), Robert Parks (guitar), Shawn Jansen (drums), and a five-piece horn section comprised of: Pete Martinez (alto sax), Warren Weichmann (tenor sax), Josh Woodfolk (baritone sax), Alex Melena (trumpet), and Ryan Sundburg (trumpet). Time Frame has influences including Amy Winehouse, Santana, and especially the band’s favorite, Tower of Power. It’snot every day that you see a band with a horn section, even has choreographed dance moves. Their music makes
people of all ages want to get up and dance. Time Frame has won first place at the 51st annual Hayward Battle of the Bands,played in Valley’s Got Talent show at the Gallo Center for the Arts, performed at the California State Fair, and has played countless gigs all over the San Joaquin Valley. u NEON STRINGS: Neon Strings is another talented GK band that emerged two years ago. The band is made up of Mariel Cahiles (guitar/ vocals), Sharmaine Cahiles (bass, keyboard, flute, vocals), Brendon Tagofunda (guitar), Joshua Dural (guitar), Peter Martinez (sax, bass, guitar), and Zach Johnson (drums). Neon Strings rocks out to everything from rock to reggae and are always yearning to change their sound and explore different genres. By changing their instruments and adding flute, saxophone, and keys, it changes up their sound and gives them the upper hand when it comes to diversity. This unique quality has landed Neon Strings first place at the 52nd annual Hayward Battle of the Bands, a featured slot at the Queen Bean, and numerous gigs all across the valley. In addition to the above performers, there will be many others appearing on the four stage venues scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday.

Mustard is more than just a condiment. For Mary Helen Howard, Murphys Mustard Co. it has become a way of life. “It started out about seven years ago, using an old recipe that I acquired many ago,” she said from her home in the Calaveras County town of Murphys. Back then, Howard only made the gourmet mustard for the holidays. But in doing so, she received enough encouragement to try making a go of it as a business. Her husband put together a commercial kitchen to help get things rolling. Murphys Mustard Co. made its debut in June 2009. Along the way, she’s expanded her stock to include blends such as hot & sweet, Dijon, garlic onion, wasabi and cranberry harvest, to name a few. Howard will also be among the ven-
dors at this weekend’s Manteca Crossroad Street Faire. This will mark the third time at this event for Murphys Mustard Co. “The (Crossroad Street Faire) has been a good one for us,” she said. “We’ve built up a lot of customers coming here.” This is the same vendor that’s been a regular at the Modesto Farmers Market. “We’re there twice a month, nine months a year,” said Howard. She’s also on hand to show folks that mustard isn’t just a sandwich spread. “We cook with mustard,” Howard said. “It’s good (for cooking) with poultry, pork and fish – we hand out recipes with each jar we sell.” Among the other food vendors at the Crossroad Street Faire: u Olive Oil Pantry owned and operated right here in Manteca by Arnie Kaufman,
who opened the business in 2011. He features a variety of extra virgin olive oils as well as flavored balsamic vinegars. u Honeydale Beekeeping of Stockton features a variety of honey in glass muth jars. u Lockeford Sausages always has a popular following at the various street and fair events, including this one. u Macaponage Macaroons of Stockton offers gluten-free pastries specializing in French macaroons. u Sandee’s Fresh Grind Coffee House of San Jose offers espresso, latte, mocha, and specialty hot and cold drinks not to mention smoothies. u Sweet Cheeks Faire Treats has everything from mini donuts and funnel cakes to pazookies and bacon corn dogs. u Crazy 4 Nuts features gourmet roasted nuts cooked up in a small kettle using only the finest ingredients.
