Every month, we talk to over one hundred thousand South of England households – Do you want to talk to them too? These days, the options for marketing your business are almost limitless. A few years ago, all most people did was chuck a listing in the Yellow Pages, join a local networking group and rely on word of mouth. In the 21st century, the landscape’s changed, a lot. New media’s come in, in a big way; and every few months there’s a new ‘shiny object’ that’s described as ‘the one thing that businesses must do’. At Mantra Magazines, we’ve got an alternative. Because, whilst Facebook and Google are important, every single month we can testify to the fact that print advertising is not dead. In fact, it’s thriving.
Over the last 10 years I’ve really built up a good rapport with RH Uncovered and I really trust what they do for me, so on that basis I really wouldn’t feel that I would go anywhere else Tim Burberry, Tim Burberry Plumbing and Heating
They are very easy to talk to, nothing is ever too much trouble and they get things right, first time. There is no stress involved in dealing with them. They know what I want and return something that is pretty much perfect Greg Fergusson Fergussons Auto Services,
Every single year since we started out, our business has grown; and there’s a simple reason for that: businesses want to reach out to their prospects in a way that’s genuine, trustworthy and builds relationships. The fact of the matter is that it’s a lot more difficult to do that online, when your prospect doesn’t get to retain your message, dwell on it and decide whether it’s for them or not. For strong, long-lasting and profitable relationships with your target market, print advertising is still where it’s at, and given that advertising with our magazines can give you access to over 100,000 homes, that’s no surprise. Call us today on 01342 718348 for more details on how we can help you.

Mid Sussex Garden Opens For Armed Forces Charity This June, Horsted Keynes’ Tuesday Group members alongside Town Place will be opening the private garden in Freshfield to the public as part of the National Gardens Scheme to raise money for charity. By Georgia Lambert
T
he Tuesday Group started in 1962 as a branch of the Royal British Legion, Women’s Section which is a membership organisation, providing care and support to the serving and ex-service community. In 2015 the Royal British Legion (RBL) amalgamated the women’s section into the main branch. In response the women’s group in Horsted Keynes became independent from the RBL and last October they became The Tuesday Group. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month in the Horsted Club in Horsted Keynes and feature a variety of speakers, lunches and outings. The decision to leave the RBL was a big one, however, as members put it, the club is doing better than ever! Like the RBL, fundraising is important to the Tuesday Group and each year they choose a charity they would like to support. In 2017, these are SSAFA - the armed forces charity and Blind Veterans UK. The Horsted Keynes Tuesday Group has many ideas for fundraising - a popular idea is a marmalade and cake sale. However, this year group members have decided to organise something different.
Dr and Mrs McGrath from Town Place in Sheffield Park have kindly agreed to open their gardens for the group’s fundraiser. Town Place is a private garden which is open for charity as part of the National Gardens Scheme. On Sunday, June 18 the Tuesday Group have organised an afternoon tea in the garden with the proceeds going to the group who are supporting SSAFA and Blind Veterans UK. Founded in 1885, SSAFA is the oldest military charity in the UK, helping thousands of people each year. SSAFA support anyone who is currently serving or has ever served in the Royal Navy, British Army or Royal Air Force – providing family support as well as supporting servicemen and women, and veterans. Blind Veterans UK supports anyone who has served in the armed forces or who has done National Service and as a result, is now living with significant sight loss. They help blind exservicemen and women lead an independent and fulfilling life by supporting them with in-depth expertise, experience and a full range of services.
The afternoon tea takes place at Town Place, Ketches Lane, Freshfield RH17 7NR. The garden will be open 2.00pm - 6.00pm on Sunday, June 18. Admission is £5.00 for adults, children’s entry is free. For more information, please visit: www.townplacegarden.org.uk

World Class Art Comes To Haywards Heath A group of volunteers and art enthusiasts have united to organise an exhibition of world class modern art in Haywards Heath, featuring more than 30 major artists from a prestigious collection. By Georgia Lambert
T
he Walking On Water art exhibition will be showing 48 artworks from the Methodist Modern Art Collection by highly respected artists Graham Sutherland, Elisabeth Frink, Edward Burra and Maggi Hambling. The exhibition will open to the public from 12.00pm - 4.00pm on Monday – Saturday between June 22 – July 16 2017. Two churches, both light and airy, will be converted into galleries for a month to display the paintings. With two venues, it has been possible to stage the exhibition as a town-wide event. There will be 29 artworks on show at the Methodist Church on Perrymount Road while there are 19 artworks on show at the United Reformed Church on South Road, near the town centre of Haywards Heath. When the volunteers decided to stage a major art exhibition in a small commuter town with no gallery, museum or exhibition space, you might have thought they had been out in the sun too long! They had no funds or previous experience however they had the ambition to believe that they could bring the Methodist Modern Art Collection to the public in their local environment. Eager to support the younger generation, the volunteers partnered with the Central Sussex College art department, 12 of their students will be supporting the exhibition while contributing their skills for their portfolios at the same time.
The group have received support from West Sussex County Council’s Community Initiative Fund and a Mid Sussex Community and Economic Development Grant to help fund the visit of modern artworks of international standing, which will provide a new attraction to the town this summer. As well as appreciating the incredible artwork by the fantastic artists, there is a full programme of events scheduled during the exhibition including expert talks, workshops, school sessions and musical concerts all celebrating the creative arts. There is a special parent and child art workshop being held on July 1, an organ recital in the afternoon of Saturday, June 25 and lunchtime concerts by other talented ensembles and musicians. The team have also organised larger concerts on July 1 and 15 and also a drama performance in the Wesley Hall at the Methodist Church on July 8.
If you would like to volunteer at these events or you would like to know more about the Walking On Water exhibition coming to Mid Sussex, visit their website: www.walkingonwaterart.org.uk or, call Nicola Sheldon on 01444 412927.

Capturing The Spirit Of Gardening In Ardingly
The Ardingly Gardening Club And Horticultural Society is the village’s oldest society, established in 1905. The club is driven by a love of plants and a belief that gardening makes the world a better place.
T
he 18th century in Britain saw the cultivation of exotic plants and seeds in country houses. Landowners funded plant hunters to travel the world to discover and collect species. To be entrusted with these precious seeds from expeditions was a privilege and the pressure to be able to grow them in the British climate was intense and showcased the immense skill of these gardeners. This background encouraged the formation of many local horticultural societies. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is the largest gardening charity in the UK and the organisation currently supports more than 3,000 local gardening groups across the country. The RHS played a key role in the Dig for Victory campaign during the Second World War, encouraging the British public to grow their own food. The motto, We believe everyone in every village, town and city should benefit from growing plants to enhance lives,
By Georgia Lambert
build stronger, healthier, happier communities, and create better places to live is the view of both the RHS and the affiliated Ardingly Gardening Club And Horticultural Society (AGCHS). The AGCHS has seen many committed members come and go across the years, including two gardeners who sadly passed away last year. Former society president and RHS judge, Bryan Ball, and former steward Vic Stone who were not only long-standing members of the AGCHS but also contributed much to the community of Ardingly. AGCHS members intend to create a memorial garden outside the British Legion in Ardingly to honour them.
Gardeners are traditionally generous, offering their time, knowledge and cuttings, and spare plants to other members of their community and members of AGCHS are no exception. In response to changing lifestyles, members decided not to arrange shows in 2017, but look out for pop up plant sales around the village during the year. Activities on offer included a talk from local Withypitts Dahlia Farm in April, and a visit to Kew’s Millenium Seed Bank at Wakehurst in June. As Ardingly villager, Barbara Lucas wrote in her book Oaklands, This is Your Life 1947-2007, “We joined the Ardingly Horticultural Society and entered the shows in Hapstead Hall, both of us winning some prizes. The house was in uproar for a few days before each show, assembling vegetables, having dug up many potential contenders to find six of the best; what with bottling fruit, making jam, baking cakes and arranging flowers – one wondered why one did it but it was good fun!”
New members to the Ardingly Gardening Club and Horticultural Society are welcome, if you would like to find more, visit: www.ardingly.org/clubs-and-societies/horticultural-society/ or, call Kim on: 07879 622 793.

Take To The Skies At
British Airways i360 A visit to British Airways i360 in Brighton, the world’s first vertical cable car, is a unique experience for the whole family to enjoy By Jacob White
B
righton’s newest seaside attraction, British Airways i360, made a big impact when it opened in August last year. The futuristic glass observation pod, which rises to 138m, dominates the city’s skyline and has already wowed thousands of visitors. Every 30 minutes, up to 200 people gently glide up to 450ft in the giant glass pod to enjoy 360 degree unfolding views across Brighton, the south coast and, on the clearest days, all the way to Beachy Head and the Isle of Wight.
Conceived and designed by Marks Barfield Architects, creators of the London Eye, British Airways i360 is acknowledged by Guinness World Records as the world’s most slender tower. Driven by state-of-the-art cable car technology, the design is as impressive as it is innovative. The idea was born in 2005 to create a ‘vertical pier’ on Brighton seafront, located on the site of the original West Pier. Guests can ‘walk on air’ and gain a unique perspective on the city from above, just as the original pier welcomed Victorian society to ‘walk on water’.
It took 10 years and the expertise of hundreds of people across Europe to turn British Airways i360 from a concept into reality. This summer it is ready to welcome you and your family to see the coast from a seagull’s view. Following your flight you can visit the onsite gift shop, grab a bite to eat in the restaurant or walk straight out onto the beach for a paddle in the sea. Rain or shine, British Airways i360 will never fail to lift your spirits.
Competition Time! We’ve teamed up with British Airways i360 to offer you the chance to WIN tickets for flights at the landmark attraction so you and a friend can take to the skies. To enter visit our website www.rhuncovered.co.uk
Family Fun Children absolutely love the British Airways i360 pod. Families are free to walk around, pointing out landmarks, watching seagulls and spotting boats out at sea. Before boarding the pod, tech-savy children can enjoy animations and a photo hunt around the site on the free-to-download British Airways i360 app. Sky High Refreshments On board the pod, enjoy a drink at the Nyetimber Sky Bar, one of the most unique bars in the UK, serving a range of fine drinks from Sussex including Nyetimber, an award winning sparkling wine. If you are seeking the romantic touch, take an evening flight to enjoy the sunset and twinkling city lights below.
Wine and Dine Visitors can relax over a delicious meal in the stylish restaurant which boasts stunning views from its beachside terrace. Serving dishes created using locally-sourced ingredients, the menus are inspired by the seasons. The modern bistro is ideal for families and has a wide variety of options for adults and children alike. Alternatively, you can enjoy a classic afternoon tea served with finger sandwiches, scones and a selection of mini patisseries. If you are looking for something a little more informal, do not worry - If you are looking for a light bite, head to the West Pier Tea Room for coffee and cake.

Volunteering For School Leavers
Getting a first job or securing that college or university place can often come down to added extras on a CV, one big plus is voluntary work - here is our guide to getting started. By Shelley Welti How Can Volunteering Help? Whether you are heading off to college or university, or hoping to step onto the career ladder, one sure-fire way of getting noticed is by volunteering. In fact, according to a Time Bank/ Reed survey 73% of the UK’s biggest businesses would employ a candidate with volunteering experience instead of one without. The study also found that 94% of businesses surveyed believe that volunteering adds to skills and 58% say that voluntary work experience can often be more valuable than experience gained in paid employment. So, volunteering is certainly not to be sniffed at – especially if you want your CV to stand out from the crowd.
As well as looking fantastic on your application form, a volunteer placement is not just something to do to impress future employers or further education institutions – it can offer you a window into the world you would ideally like to work in and ensure that it is for you. This can bring you confidence and also contacts too - we all know how true the saying ‘it’s not what you know, it’s who you know’ can be. Finding The Perfect Placement You have decided to volunteer, now where do you start to look for placements? If you are hoping to volunteer in the industry you would like to work in, research a few companies you feel would be a good fit for your career.
Be realistic though; if expenses are not paid which with most placements they will not be, think about not travelling too far, due to cost. Large organisations attract a lot of interest and will book up months in advance, so it’s best to get in there early. It is also worth noting that many companies cannot take on placements for those aged 18 or younger due to insurance reasons. If you are open to doing something a bit different and would like to add a varied range of skills to your CV, the world is your oyster! Websites such as www.do-it.org are great places to look for placements, as are local community and volunteering centres.
Are you looking for more local work? You can feature your business in RH Uncovered and be delivered every month to almost 24,000 homes in the RH16 and RH17 postcodes! Husband and wife team Paddy Heyland and Ursula Whittle set up their award winning luxury fragrance company in 2003 by joining their names to create the brand and have used the Heyland family crest as their logo. Inspired by nature, step through the door of the Heyland & Whittle factory and the glorious signature fragrances greet you.
They use the traditional cold-processed method to produce the finest handmade soaps and only the very best natural ingredients. Their soaps are sulphate and paraben free. Teams of skilled, dedicated workers hand pour wax candles and fill reed diffusers with care and precision. Candles are the traditional, quick and atmospheric way to fill the room with your chosen Heyland & Whittle fragrance. Say hello to a new range of Scentsational candles - Strawberry, Pineapple, Mandarin, Vanilla Custard, Garden Pea, Coconut Milk, Black Olive, Tomato & Herb –
generous (250g) Sustainable wax candles fragranced with aromas of fruits and vegetables as found on the supermarket shelves. Eye catching, bold design, innovative, quirky, true fragrance “it is, what it says on the tin!” Sold by top retailers including John Lewis, Fortnum & Mason and Marks & Spencer, Heyland & Whittle’s quintessentially British ranges of fragranced candles, diffusers and bath and body products can also be found in hundreds of independent British shops as well as in places as far flung as America, Taiwan and Germany. HOMES
Changing Seasons – Here Comes The Sun! Thinking of accessorising for summer? The warmth of summer is here, so now is the time to add some summery ideas to your interior designing to make sure you change with the seasons! By Jacob White
J
une sees the longest day, the beginning of the Wimbledon Championships and Glastonbury Festival – all sure fire signs that the height of the British summer is here and we have a listed of the top 10 ways for you to get your home buzzing to the sights, scents and colours of the summer vibe of 2017! Pare Down Why not think of your home as a holiday apartment and see it in a new light? Get rid of pieces of furniture and fabrics which are dark or gloomy and stow away those heavy accessories, save the throws for autumn and winter!
Garden Fresh Bring the outdoors in! Freshly picked flowers can do marvels to a home – it is always best to go for arrangements that feature warm colours such as bold oranges and vibrant pinks – save reds and purples for the winter months!
Live Natural Add some organic appeal to your home! Why not consider introducing plants into the home? Some plants will require little care and they will be the perfect addition to a summery table or side unit display – natural equals character!
Furniture Update An effective way to bring new life to old furniture and add a splash of colour is to give a tired chair or table a new life with some summery hues! Make sure you properly prime the furniture before adding tones such as sky blue and grassy green.
Dine Colourfully Meal time is another chance for you to add a splash of colour to your – mix in some bright floral or tropical themes which will ramp-up your summertime look! A great idea is to set-up a small table to create an impromptu bar with bottles.
Swap Art If you have a dark wall or two in your home why not add some colourful art pieces? The art does not have to be expensive with affordable pieces available online or from a local charity shop. One large or several small pieces can do the trick!
New View A fireplace is great focal point during the winter months but why not considering moving your furniture away during summer? Rather than huddling around a source of winter warmth shift the focus to a window or French doors!
Emotional Fabric The colours we choose can instantly lift a room’s mood and in turn yours and that of your house guests. Try bright, botanical prints for 2017 on bedding. Let the patterns shine but make sure to keep the wall colours neutral.
Summer Scents If you like to have a fresh scent running through your home – whether you use candles, infuser sticks or plug-ins make sure you change with the seasons! Evergreen is good for winter but summer should be about ocean breeze!
Go Casual The summer offers opportunities to find unexpected uses for formal serving piece. Mix things up a little and be original, why not try these ideas – a silver try for holding your glassware or plant your herb garden in a champagne bucket!

GARDENS
Water Great Idea!
Water adds another dimension to any garden – the sight and sound of running water can lift and relax us no matter how stressful our day has been. The additional sound and light a water feature offers can bring a garden to life. Here are simple ideas to ensure your water feature is at is best. By Jacob White
T
he design of your water feature is important – it must be something that you can live with and be within your budget. The water feature does not have to include sculptures or fussy glitz – a simple, informal wildlife pool can still be stunning as an attractive addition as well as a learning resource. If you decide a pond is for you then here are some tip tops to make sure it works for you: Pond Life To ensure your new garden pond does not leak away use a good-quality liner such as a EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) liner which is at least 1mm thick. It is recommended that you lay the liner across an underlay.
Three-quarters of the sides of the pond should be planted with plants such as flowering rush or marsh marigold and although a natural pond does not get cleaned if you find your pond becomes sludgy use calcium sulphate to clean.
The drums must be installed outside of the pond – if you’re using the filter as part of an elaborate fountain it should be in keeping with it. If you are keeping fish it can be challenging to keep the water clear and you will need a more sophisticated filter.
Crystal Clear To keep a pond crystal clear you need to install a filtration system otherwise draining, cleaning and refilling is far too time-consuming. Self-cleaning drum filters which are either gravity-fed or pumped are a good choice for a pond novice.
Water Retention Water features lose water through evaporation faster than you may think – you can install an automatic top-up unit fitted with a sensor but these can be expensive and by law cannot be filled from the mains supply - a cheaper alternative is a garden hose.
Find Balance A good pH balance with no algal outbreaks is essential, to achieve this the pond needs to be ideally an area of 30m3 with a depth of around 1.5m in place and try to cover around two-thirds of the water surface with floating plants.

HEALTH
Five Minute Health Wins
For a healthier life we often think that we need to make a major overhaul but in fact it is far more simple than that and we have some quick and simple five minute health wins for you! By Jacob White The relentless pace of life in 2017 coupled with the constant pressures of work and home life mean we all too often spend little time thinking about our health and wellbeing. However, some small changes can make a big difference in the long-term because looking after ourselves today means we will be able to function more efficiently at work and at home and we will be less likely to succumb to illness. Get Moving The NHS recommends around 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week plus time on strength exercises. Many say they cannot spare the time, however, studies show that shorter bursts of high intensity or sprint exercises have greater health benefits so the excuse of little time does not wash! Top Tip! Remember, any exercise is better than no exercise! Try this, set your watch or mobile device for a five minute workout. Sprint as fast as you can (on the spot if necessary) for 20 seconds, jog for a further 20 seconds and then walk for 20 seconds and all you need to do is repeat this five times. Forward Planning The saying is that ‘failing to prepare is preparing to fail’ – when surrounded by unhealthy choices at every turn it is no surprise that our willpower can let us down when we are stressed, tired or hungry. Top Tip! Take five minutes each day to plan your meals and buy healthy snacks for when you are on the go!

Phone A Friend It is well known that a good network of friends and successful relationships help maintain a healthy state of mind. Despite, this 1 in 4 of us still suffer from a form of mental health struggle in our life. Top Tip! Take five minutes out of your busy day to chat with a friend or work colleague about what is on your mind – by doing so you are strengthening your relationship as well as keeping your mind refreshed.
Breathe Thinking about our physical health is one thing but sometimes we neglect our mental health. Our brain needs downtime, stop for at least five minutes each day and focus on your breathing. Top Tip! Set a timer and sit in a quiet place, this could even be in your car before work or before visiting a local supermarket. Focus on taking deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth.

Positive Thinking There are times when even the most optimistic amongst us feel as though the world is waging war on us – at work deadlines are dragging us down and at home we feel like we are being left listless. It is not just a cliché – looking on the bright side of life can make things feel better and breed success. Top Tip! Rather than feeling down in the dumps, use five minutes of your time to list all of the things that you can feel grateful for regardless of their size. Lift your mood and make this a regular habit!
