Something for everyone at the Festival of Surrey Life The Fox Revived pub in rural Norwood Hill near Horley is once again to host the annual ‘Festival of Surrey Life’. It’s an event everyone can get involved in, whether attending for a fun day out or participating as an exhibitor or performer. Held on May 25 and 26 (the Bank Holiday weekend), it is the brainchild of The Fox Revived publicans Jon and Paula Briscoe. Entry is free.
Now in its fourth year, the 2014 festival promises to be the best yet and is expected to attract 1,000 people each day. It’s a celebration of all that is great about the county, including food & drink producers, performers and a wide range of activities. “This really is a collaborative event,” comments Jon. “It’s one big party where everyone can participate and join in for the entertainment of others. Each year we manage to bring together an eclectic group of producers, performers and activities – there really is something for everyone across the weekend. Activities at the 2013 Festival of Surrey Life included street dancing, birds of prey, steam engines, paintballing, quad bikes, music, line dancing and many other stalls and attractions. I expect 2014 to be bigger, better and a great celebration. It’s a simple concept, but as is often the case, it’s the simple things that work the best and this is some old fashioned fun for the family to enjoy.” The festival runs from 12 noon until 5.30pm on both days. Take part! If you’re interested in attending as an exhibitor or performer, contact Jayde@esp8.co.uk otherwise put May 25 and 26 in your diary. • Information on the event will be updated here: http://thefoxrevived.co.uk/festival-of-surrey-life/ Twitter: @FoxRevivedPub #FOSL The Fox Revived, Norwood Hill, Horley Surrey RH6 OET

The Confidence to Succeed What would you do if you knew you could never fail? Throughout our lives we are encouraged to succeed, in our studies, in our work and in our daily lives. Failure, we are always led to believe, is not an option. Failure leads us to believe that we can’t and perseverance is futile. Look at it from another perspective! How many times as a child did you fall down before learning to take those first steps? Or in later years you learned to ride a bike, maybe initially with stabilisers and a parent or guardian by our side, but eventually those stabilisers came off and there was just no stopping you. Maybe along the way you hit a few pot holes but you were always heading forward.
I have recently been invited to become an International Mentor for business women under the guidance of the Cherie Blair Foundation. It’s an honour to be allowed to be involved in such a worthwhile charity. Now as a mentor, whether to an international mentee or a hypnotherapy client, you will never find me telling anyone what to do. The person you choose to be your mentor should encourage you to reach your own goal, guiding you through the journey but never directing it. It really doesn’t matter what job you do or where you are in life’s journey. Sometimes a mentor can encourage you to find your own direction again. If it’s good enough for Richard Branson……
Don’t ever consider it a weakness to ask for some guidance along the way. As we grow, we forgot these The strongest people are the important learning processes ones that have the confidence we go through as a child. to ask for advice. What is hypnotherapy? Hypnotherapy is a natural state of heightened awareness that occurs within all of us. It allows us to open our minds to beneficial suggestions and allows the client to use their imagination to make positive changes. A brief way to describe a feeling similar to hypnosis is that moment you've been watching TV and not heard a word that's been said, even though you've been staring straight at the screen. Alternatively it's the car journey where you wonder how you got to a certain place. Your mind is on auto-pilot and must have been in control, otherwise there would probably have been an accident. What can hypnotherapy help with? Addictions (e.g. nicotine) Anger management Anxiety Blushing Bruxism (teeth grinding) Chronic Fatigue Syndrome* Depression Exam Nerves Fear of Flying Food Addiction Eating Disorders Gastric Band Hypnotherapy Insomnia Internet addiction Irritable Bowel Syndrome Low Self Confidence Low Self-Esteem Obsessions & Compulsions Childbirth Confidence Fears and phobias Grief Habits e.g. nail biting Health Memory Relaxation Performance Personal development Regression Relationships Sexual problems Sleep Disorders Sports performance Stress and anxiety Weight loss

ACTION FOR DEAFNESS
Action for Deafness Founded by a group of Deaf and hard of hearing people, Action for Deafness is celebrating 20 years of delivering exemplary services to Deaf and hard of hearing people, this year. Core funding was secured from West Sussex County Council in April 1994. Twenty years later, the organisation has expanded and now provides a comprehensive range of services for Deaf and hard of hearing people including NHS Audiology services, lip reading classes, Deaf awareness training, sign language classes and an advocacy service. The services are available from two large Resource Centres in Haywards Heath and Worthing which also have a full range of assistive listening devices available for demonstration and sale. The charitable organisation also operates from outreach clinics around West Sussex. Last year alone Action for Deafness saw over 13,000 people for audiology appointments and serviced over 17,000 hearing aids at its drop in clinics. Action for Deafness is a qualified provider of NHS adult rehabilitation audiology services and was the first provider to gain UKAS accreditation for its audiology facilities.
www.mantramagazines.co.uk
It now has six audiology centres across the County. State of the art equipment is used for testing hearing and fitting hearing aids and on going support is always available at any of our centres. Action for Deafness has a team of dedicated volunteers who run the outreach clinics and can provide home visits to those who are house bound. More than ten million people in the UK have a hearing loss and this number is expected to grow in the coming years so there is much work to be done. The organisation has already expanded further this year, adding more audiology rooms in Haywards Heath and Worthing. Patient satisfaction is high with 98% of patients saying they would recommend the service to a friend. To celebrate 20 years of service provision the charity hopes to raise ÂŁ20,000 from fundraising events throughout the year. More information can be found in our Resource Centres or on line at www.actionfordeafness.org.uk

Wonderful Windows They keep in the warmth and keep out prying eyes, but window treatments are much more than a purely practical addition to a room, says Katherine Sorrell Curtains – where to start The cheapest and most subtle option for hanging curtains is undoubtedly a plastic or metal track. Double tracks can be used to hang both nets and thicker curtains neatly, while triple tracks allow you to use flat panels, perhaps of different fabrics, which can be pulled back and forwards in different combinations depending on the effect you want or how much light you wish to allow in. The more decorative alternative is a curtain pole – perhaps in see-through acrylic, slender stainless steel or pale-painted wood – and with pretty finials on the ends. On narrow windows or dormers, portiere (or swing-arm) rods are an alternative to fixed poles, while for a modern effect you could use tension wire, fixed taut within the window opening. Curtains – fabric and style Whether you prefer minimal panels or swathes of fabric, it is best to take into account the architecture and size of the room, and of the windows, before opting for a particular curtain style. Grander curtains tend to suit larger, period rooms, while simple curtains are often best suited to modern properties. The way in which a curtain hangs is determined by its heading, usually created by a tape which is sewn onto the back of the curtain and pulled to form gentle gathers, smart pleats or a variety of other shapes. For a less formal look, however, there are plenty of alternatives. Tab- and tie-tops are often found on ready-made curtains, though they can be fiddly to draw. Curtains can also be hung from a deep hem which is simply slid

over a pole, from large eyelets punched in the top (this looks great hung from a tension wire), from clips (magnetic ones are easy to use) or even just from hooks. Curtains can be made from practically any fabric, depending on your budget. The heavier the fabric, the better it will hold a fold, though very heavy fabrics will be too bulky for smaller windows. Very light fabrics will tend to look floppy unless supported by a lining. Lining is, in fact, always a good idea, as it will not only help the fabric hang neatly, but also protect it from fading, dirt and condensation. Thermal linings help retain heat, and can be as effective as double glazing, while blackout lining also blocks out light and some noise.
Blackout Roman blinds in ‘Kobe’ from The Fabric Box (0844 8118280; www.thefabricbox.co.uk) have been softened with the use of opulent silk curtains. Prices from £88.59. the bottom and tie in position, show off their reverse, thus offering an attractive combination of two fabrics. When choosing fabrics, mid-weight, not-too-textured fabrics tend to be best for blinds, which need to roll or fold easily against themselves.
Shutters They may not be the obvious choice, and they are almost always more expensive than blinds or simple curtains, but shutters are good-looking Blinds Once considered something of a poor cousin in an unfussy kind of way and suit both old and to curtains, blinds are increasingly fashionable, new properties. Depending on the configuration offering a clean-lined look that is sophisticated of your window, shutters can be made as a and laid-back yet still pleasingly tactile. What’s single pair, bi-fold, tri-fold or whatever will fit, either full-length, half-height (café style), or more, they tend to be far cheaper, as they tier-on-tier, rectangular, tapering or arched in require much less fabric – just the size of shape, and either set within the reveal or folding the window opening, plus hems. There are back against the wall. The plainest, period-type different options to suit different styles of shutters have a timber frame and a solid centre room, many of them easy to make yourself panel – they can be painted any colour and or inexpensive to buy off-the-shelf. A roller complement a Georgian or Victorian home blind in a neutral colour will blend into the extremely well. American shutters have louvres background in a modern, minimal space, that tilt up and down, offering privacy but also or could be used in conjunction with ‘dress’ curtains (fixed either side of the window) in letting in light. Alternatively, for a highly a more formal room. Roman blinds pull up in contemporary effect, it’s possible to have shutters lovely soft folds that give an attractive drape made from sleek aluminium or funky acrylic, which comes in a range of gorgeous colours. without going over the top, while fabric By Katherine Sorrel roll-up blinds which, literally, roll up from

Keeping Pests at Bay the Natural Way
GARDENS
More and more people have become concerned about using chemicals in the garden, with some gardeners having used chemicals rarely, if at all, for years. Perhaps you are concerned about wildlife and conservation, or using pesticides on plants that children or pets might play near, or that you intend to eat.
Other outdoor pests which can be controlled include leather jackets and chafer grubs and there is even a control to send ants off in the other direction – wonderful if you like to lie on the lawn or enjoy meals in your garden without being nipped!
I garden organically and use biological controls regularly. If your conservatory is also a place where you relax or enjoy a Greener gardening is not difficult, it is just drink or a meal, it is especially important different. Many infuriating pests can thrive not to fill it with potentially harmful chemicals. To use these controls you will in greenhouses and conservatories, but need to make sure that your greenhouse there are now many ‘natural’ controls or conservatory is not already packed available in the form of predators and full of chemical residues - otherwise parasites, which can be purchased they may kill the beneficial creatures from mail order suppliers (including you are introducing. For whitefly you www.pippagreenwood.com) and then need a tiny parasitic wasp called Encarsia released indoors. These insects or mites and or red spider mite you need the do a great job of keeping common pests at bay, including whitefly, red spider mite predatory Phytoseiulus mite. Introduce these amongst infested plants and they and mealy bugs. There are also excellent will automatically search out the pests, controls available for slugs and for vine soon getting their numbers under control weevils, both of which can be used without you having to lift a finger. successfully outside too.
It may sound off-putting to release wasps or mites indoors but these little creatures are tiny and will not bite or sting: they are only interested in the pests. Biological controls are tricky for garden centres to stock, as living creatures won’t survive if left sitting on a warm shelf. Mail order is therefore the best way to buy generally, with your predators or parasites arriving in the post, along with strict instructions for storage and using before the use-by date. But don’t let this put you off: biological controls are excellent and used by professional growers. To ensure success you must follow the instructions precisely and make sure you introduce the control when there are only a few pests around. If the air is choked with whitefly it can be a bit too much of an uphill struggle for the tiny little wasps. But the great thing is that you can relax in the knowledge that you’re not jeopardising any wildlife and that, in many cases, the biological control becomes self-perpetuating as the ‘critters’ you have bought breed and spread. Now that’s what I call useful. By Pippa Greenwood Visit www.pippagreenwood.com and sign up for her newsletter (and receive a free ebook on organic gardening) and shop from the new products area which offers a great selection of biological controls plus growing frames, cloches, raised bed kits and lots, lots more.

Going on Holiday –
Are you parking at the airport?
Did you know that there are several different parking options you could book, depending on which best suits your travel arrangements. Let’s look at your options... Off-airport parking Generally the lowest cost option a free transfer bus will take you and your passengers into the Airport. You will need to leave your vehicle keys with this type of parking.
Official on-airport parking This is the parking run by the airport, often the more expensive option. There is usually a long term car park and short term car park. The Short stay is generally within walking distance to the terminal, with the long term usually a free bus ride away. Here you park your own car and keep your keys.
Meet and Greet or Valet parking Ideal for those with lots of luggage, mobility issues or if you’re travelling with bulky items like skis or golf clubs. You get met by a chauffeur in the designated meet and greet area, usually outside the terminal. Your vehicle is then collected and whisked off to a secured compound before it is bought back to the airport on your return. This option is becoming very popular and is probably much cheaper than you would expect.
At BookFHR.com we've been assisting customers since 1986 providing the top car parks at airports across the UK, at the cheapest prices. All you need to do is choose the option best suited to your trip, safe in the knowledge that we’ve done all the hard work for you. The statistics show that very few children achieve the required standard set by the National Curriculum of swimming 25 metres by Key stage 2. The best time to start swimming is when your children are babies (3 months+) to build up their water confidence using songs and activities to learn, whilst learning lifesaving skills that will take them through their lives. It’s a great way to meet new mums and bond with your babies. Once you and your child/children are competent swimmers family holidays become so much fun, and there are so many other avenues that can be explored, i.e. scuba diving, synchro, diving, water skiing etc. Schools do provide lessons but some children need extra assistance and improve by regular weekly lessons all year round. Tracy’s lessons start from babies and go right up to adults so caters for all ages and abilities, from beginners right up to advanced swimmers. So whether you are looking to improve your stroke technique or your stamina/fitness or you just want to swim for fun contact Tracy. RH UNCOVERED CASE STUDY
RH Uncovered: Case Study Becky Wells, Health and Wellness
Client:
Becky Wells is a health and wellness expert, specialising in hypnotherapy and personal fitness. Becky approached us in 2013 regarding the possibility of featuring her services in the RH Uncovered magazines having been drawn to the wealth of expert articles that we carry each month. Becky’s enthusiasm for her profession led us to invite her to become a regular contributor to our Health and Wellbeing section. Here she tells us why she chose RH Uncovered magazines. 1) Why did you decide to advertise your business with RH Uncovered magazines in the first place? When I first set up my hypnotherapy practice I knew that I wanted to work with my local community. I knew I had to advertise myself but with so many local publications around I didn’t know which way to go. My practice is based within the RH10 postcode and so I was getting and reading a copy of the magazine each month. I loved the local content and editorial in the magazine and decided to give the team a call.

6 months down the line I am still receiving a high number of calls quoting the magazine. The calls are consistent throughout the month and the number of calls I receive each month is growing.
and the quality of calls I get have made my advertising decision an easy one.
The team have remained supportive throughout. I have regular contact with them. They are always there to help and advise me on my next month’s campaign. I have found working with them completely stress free and professional and this has left me free to carry on working in my now very busy practice.
I am coming to the end of my contract with the magazine and I am excited to meet with Nikki, Carly and the team to discuss renewing my contract with them. I have some exciting things coming up in my business and sharing this news with their readers makes sense.
3) Why would you choose the I arranged to meet with Nikki RH Uncovered titles over a coffee and I was impressed over other magazines at how much interest Nikki you have used? showed in my business. The growing popularity of the magazine in the Haywards Heath area means that I can grow my business with them. Again I had response and interest on the back of this article. This shows the magazine is read cover to cover and I am proud to be a contributor to the magazine.

1) Why did you decide to advertise your business with RH Uncovered magazines in the first place?
2) How successful would you say that your campaign with the RH Uncovered magazines has been?
4) What does the future hold for your relationship with RH Uncovered magazines.
Having owned and operated a number of successful pubs and restaurants, I know that getting my marketing right was crucial. So when I wanted to promote the re-opening of the Old House Inn I did my homework thoroughly on what local publications were available to me, and more importantly, which of these publications were trusted and popular within the local community.
My homework paid off. The team at RH Uncovered were fantastic to work with – they listened to what I wanted to achieve and we worked together to realise my brief.
We have a number of ideas and exciting events planned for The Old House Inn, some of which we are already working on with the team at RH Uncovered.
I knew that I had a tall order for any publication to fulfil. I wanted a high quality publication in which to feature. I wanted to reach each and every home within my target area to maximise the exposure of the Pub and rooms. I needed the confidence that people would pick up the phone and come and visit as a result of my investment and I needed a team of people who understood what I wanted to achieve, and who I could trust to deliver. Most publications fell at the first hurdle, but one magazine kept re-appearing and seemed to tick all the boxes for my requirements – the RH Uncovered magazine.
www.mantramagazines.co.uk
Their distribution numbers far outweighed any other publication that I researched and their distribution method was guaranteed. The local community spoke highly of the magazine and described it as their “go to” publication for anything local.
Without a doubt, for local advertising that brings the desired results, RH Uncovered magazine would be my choice every time. Tim Brown, Business Partner The Old House Inn
The result of my campaign? Outstanding! Even six months later people are still calling mentioning that they were encouraged to visit having read the article in the RH Uncovered magazine. 3) Why would you choose the RH Uncovered titles over other magazines you have used? The team at RH Uncovered are highly professional, yet easy to work with. The magazines are popular, known and trusted by the local residents. Above all, the magazines deliver real results.
