Culatra’s Island The Culatra Beach is located on the island of the same name (Faro county). The Breech still preserves its fishing village roots and has an approximate population of 750 inhabitants. Access to breech is made only by boat. There are links from Olhão, throughout the year and from Faro, from the Cais da Porta Nova (Portas do Mar). The Breech is an island of people dedicated to the sea. When we landed in Culatra we realize that we are in a fishing place. The village is equipped with several infrastructures and services. Access to Culatra beach is via a wooden walkway newly constructed according to the norms of the Ria Formosa National Park. This beach the beach is wide and extends out of sight, both to the west and to the east. This beach is devoid of any infrastructure. During the summer season the municipality of Faro ensures the service of lifeguards and provides access to a bathroom.
Here you can observe the rich flora of the sand dunes and numerous bird species that live in these calm stops, where the waters are warm and calm. After two hours of walking eastward arrives at the Barra Grande, where you can enjoy the inviting sandy pools and a landscape ever-changing.
Culatra Island celebrates birthday
Notes to July 19 the XXIV Anniversary Day Culatra Island. This unforgettable date for all Culatrenses and people of Faro recalls the year 1987 when, in a hitherto unheard attitude, popular teamed up and vetoed the legislative elections, to protest and demand for better living conditions. From here the Breech gathered momentum and gained the respect of all. The community has matured and no longer
left to struggle and has been this way has achieved progress.
The City Council is associated with these celebrations and is a partner of the Residents Association of Culatra Island (AMIC) in the preparation of the festivities. The various activities planned highlight the inauguration of the School Library at 19h00 to and at 19.20 homage to the island's reference figures with place names assignments. This is the opportunity to, among families of those who have done so much for the island and the culatrenses, express public recognition for their courage and dedication. This honor will be perpetuated for future generations that will go through the streets of this island. BEACH The Faro county's beaches are among the Anc達o peninsula and the island of Culatra, along the extensive sandy cord that characterizes the Natural Park of Ria Formosa. This park is a rich and complex aquatic ecosystem, consisting of a system of barrier islands, marshes and
canals. The barrier islands are the sandy shoreline separating the inland waters (Ria Formosa) from the Atlantic Ocean. The Praia de Faro and the Praia da Barrinha / St. Louis Bar are in the Ancao Peninsula, Praia da Barreta / Desert Island lies in Barreta Island and Lighthouse Beach and Culatra Beach are in Culatra island. The barrier islands are separated by tidal bars, and from the west to the east is the Barra do Ancão / St. Louis Bar, the Bar St.a Maria / Barra Lighthouse and Barra da Culatra / Bar Armona (Olhão county). The Faro county's beaches are in a Mediterranean climate region of semi-arid characteristics, with a prolonged dry season during the summer months, and a relatively mild winter. Rainfall is low and irregular, the temperatures are mild and the solar radiation is high, with average figures of around 18º C.
Pole Culatra Island
Opened in July 19th 2011, this pole is located in the Escola EB 1 Culatra Island. In a decentralized manner, the poles of the Municipal Library has as main objectives: - To meet the information needs expressed by the community, by maintaining an appropriate background to different player profiles; - Provide loan documents and encourage the entry of new players; - To promote the contact with new technologies, with free Internet access; - Contribute to the creation and maintenance of reading habits, through animation and promoting reading activities.
