this portfolio represents a brief chronological summary of my journey as an architecture student at IST (Instituto Superior Técnico) in Lisbon, Portugal and at FAU (Facultad
de Arquitectura y Urbanismo, Universidade de Chile) in
Santiago, Chile. From an almost nonconscious architecture in the first year to my actual capability of developing
and designing projects, passing trough some important
case studies, its possible to understand how I´ve been improving my sensibility to apprehend the way a building
can be involved in a given context, location and culture. That relation is, in my opinion, a major topic in architecture. I am getting fascinated comprehending how an
architecture project can tottally change and influence the
people’s daily lives. I’m in my 5th year and I’m feeling a constant approach to a level of constructive details that can start to be compared to a real life situation. The exchange program in Chile has increased my curiosity in perceiving new ways of thinking architecture around the world.

1st year two public parks in Bairro do Rego i. free program - introductory ii. responding to the community needs Bairro do Rego, Lisbon, Portugal Prof. Francisco Teixeira Bastos
9
Bairro do Rego is a social neighborhood in Lisbon
known by its multi-ethnic community problems. In times
of financial crisis, the assignments purpose was to create a urban public space that could be used, crossed
and enjoyed by everyone in order to support the reintegration of the population and their social requalification.
The first project (i.) is based on a space of transition that is permanently communicating with the exterior.
This promenade offers multiple light/shadows experience, is clear, continuous and respects the rhythm of
the adjacent building arcade. The second project (ii.)
have a more specific program, a different location, but the general idea remains: to provide people a daily
comfortable, safe and pleasant common area where they can socialize, walk, rest, play‌ In this second
proposal the side walk was extended to the building
aside, blocking the traffic and giving people an easier way to reach this new public park. Also, a sports
field and a barbecue zone were designed. Throughout the southside of the project, was always ensured and explored the possibility of seeing the Lisbon.

2nd year the library park Public Library in Ourém, Portugal Prof. Vítor Carvalho de Araújo

18
In the second semester of the second year we were asked
to design the new municipal library of Ourém, a Portuguese little city. The site was near the city center and just
had some old degraded houses that were demolished. As the city had a lack of green spaces, my idea was to bring together a new library and a public park. To
make this union work, the library wasn’t just an individual building, its spaces were distributed in multiple themed “houses”. It could be comprehended as a cultural
village trying to involve all the population: the program
includes an auditorium, a cafeteria, a library and a space for children. The relation between the interior spaces of the library and the natural landscape of the park
was permanent and continuous throughout the all pro-
ject. The park had infrastructures and conditions that allowed the users to find multiple spaces to read, study, relax and think in a calm and quiet outdoor space.

3rd year water tower house in Beato i. a private house in a disabled water tower Old military complex, Beato, Lisbon. Prof. JoĂŁo Pedro FalcĂŁo de Campos
31
After a general analysis of the military complex site, I found it necessary to establish a stronger relationship
with the surrounding area opening the campus to the
city. The proposal suggests the creation of an important access to the complex by destroying a main cir-
culation barrier: the water tank. The tower stands in a crucial moment that is the intersection between Rua
do Grilo and the access road to the southern zone of the campus. The idea of “stripping” the structure of the tank intends to make the military complex more
permeable in a daily life. The house will develop ver-
tically on the top of the tower, becoming one of the highest points of the complex with a possible look to
the river. The house first level will remain, the “water space”, in this case, the bath. The privacy of the house
spaces increases as the house goes up (living room
and kitchen, workspace or library, bedroom). The terrace is a beautiful viewpoint over the Tagus river.

3rd year student housing in Beato ii. restoration of an old military building Beato, Lisbon Prof. JoĂŁo Pedro FalcĂŁo de Campos
47
This semester we had to design a temporary housing complex for students and researchers in an old military com-
plex. The building I chose to restore was the old machine room/ electric central of the campus that stands out from rest of the buildings for its classical line in the windows,
friezes and columns. In my understanding, this construction is strategically located to become the main entrance
and the principal reception of the military complex. The proposal intends to make the building quite permeable
on the ground level. Also, the residence will be near the
main street (Rua do Beato) that connects the military maintenance area to Lisbon center and the zone of Expo98.
The existent building, as a big open space, will receive the public areas as the restaurant, the cafeteria, the reception
and all the commercial services. The building extension will afford all the housing and the residence’s common social
areas. Between these two volumes, a space of transition will be developed as the separation of the private and the
public. However, this space has his own life and provides visitors a unique space to socialize, relax and to differently relate with the surroundings. The ousing modules
have a linear continuous plan oriented, as the all project,
to the river. On the top of the building, the space becomes public with the suggestion of a belvedere and a small bar with a brilliant look over the city and the Tagus river.

4th year inside a block i. University Learning Center Almada, Portugal with JoĂŁo Lavrador and Beatriz Barata Prof. Ricardo Bak Gordon
55
This
project
arises
from
the
need
for
a
requalifica-
tion of experiences in the center of Almada, more precisely
in
the
area
surrounding
the
municipal
market.
The fact that it is a consolidated urban territory leads to intervention within the blocks, places of enormous area and potential, mostly with very little use and strong degradation. Thus,
with the impetus to return the interior of a block not only to the residents, but also to the city, a learning center was de-
veloped as a support center for the University of Lisbon. The project comes up with the motto of clarifying the block and having the least impact possible for those who
inhabit it. So, the learning center develops below the current quota, molding itself to the form of the pre-existences.
The opening of three squares, distinct not only in its size but also in its function and ambience, gives the new building the
necessary natural light, defining its only visible shape. Its fully
accessible roof offers the city a new place to be, with new terraces for the existing cafes, as well as a ample and multipurpose space. The learning center integrates spaces such as a research center, library, study spaces, auditorium and
conference room, as well as spaces for the community such as a gymnasium, a playground and a restaurant / cafeteria.
In the project, the main spaces are oriented to the squares, complemented with the circulation areas and lounges, as well as zones of service, near the limits of the block. Associated with these spaces of stay, there are small courtyards in several points. The
facade are defined by a strong geometry of slender concrete pillars
that, due to their proximity, accentuate the sense of verticality. The-
se support the thick concrete slab, a main element of this project. The

Starting from the intention of freeing space in the area of intervention, our approach to simplify and reorganize Cacilhas was adopted. We tried at first to eliminate the current dispersion of the transport stations, which interrupts the fluidity of the fluxes of people. Creating a single interface, which gathers every terminal, the comfort of the users is guaranteed and, at the same time, a single starting point to the discovery of Cacilhas is created, without disregarding its historical identity. Additionally, creating this interface allows us to free Cabo do Ginjal, reinforcing the connection between Cacilhas and Lisboa.
Discovering the square
It is our intention to make the riverside more dynamic, which is obtained through the creation of an amphitheater turned to Lisboa, strengthening the communication with the other margin. Having the interface, Cais do Ginjal, and the rest of the city as boundaries, a new square is born, elevated in comparison with the aforementioned areas. Its height creates conditions to contemplate its surroundings and at the same time it marks its limits. The square faces a role as a fluid transition area regarding the new pedestrian circuits, conditioned by the new display of the area that characterizes the arrival and departure to Cacilhas.

LightSkin is the new way of sustainably bringing daylight into the buildings. The
project idea is based on the creation of a membrane/textile made of optical fiber that is capable of transporting natural sunlight captured from the surface.

iii. SENSORIAL TOWER The idea of the third and last exercise results from the study of a classic canonical work and all the precedences that were
discovered during the second exercise of free exploration(ii). Finally, we come to a project whose program focuses on the
capacity a building has to store, whatever it is. The sense of a "heavyweight" building is not lost, light control is thorough and
completely fundamental in the development of the proposal.
In the project developed, the theme of storage did not fo-
cus on something physical or concrete. The building tries to keep sensations. The storage of feelings and emotions
quickly became the design of a project that tries to reproduce or bring to reality the sensations that affect the human being. A BANK OF SENSES, a place where the human senses are enhanced, experienced and lived with
great intensity. The whole sensorial experience of the buil-
ding is distributed in an inconstant and surprising journey.

The intention of the proposal is to make people forget all the movement, visual and sound noise produced by the exhaustive dynamism
of the city and return to the basic and fundamental principles of the human being, the five senses. There is an attempt to position the body and sensitivity of the human being back to the center of architecture.
A grid of arches at the ground level is the intermediate space between the citadel and the base building of the proposal and forms a neutral
space that suggests visitors to leave behind the speed of the city and the exaggerated number of sensory impulses that the same produces. The ght,

The idea is based on the design of a vertical, almost labyrinthine path, where moments of pause are created for the potentiaton of the
five senses. The promenade, over time, is gaining meaning and the transition between the spaces ends up having as much importance
as the spaces themselves. The building is a narrative of moments of surprise and rediscovery of the basic senses of the human being.
In the end, the entire architectural experience is multisensory.
The characteristics of space, matter and scale were always mea-
sured by our eyes, ears, nose skin, tongue, skeleton, muscles ... and the project makes the visitor remember the first perception we have of an architectural element and space configured by the even.
