HOW TO REGISTER FOR A NATURE CENTER PROGRAM: Register online for paid or free programs www.maplewoodnaturecenter.com then click on the Register Online-Go! button. You can also register in person, phone, 651-249-2170, or mail with credit card, cash or check by the date indicated. Program sizes are limited, register early. No need to register for Drop-in programs. Most programs are held at the Maplewood Nature Center unless otherwise noted in program description.
THURSDAY MORNING BIRD WALK SERIES (For all ages) Join a naturalist on a hike to see and hear migrating songbirds as well as waterfowl. Bring your own binoculars or borrow a pair from the nature center. Participants will learn how to identify birds by sight and sound as well as keep a record of birds observed during the hike. After the hike, learn how to enter the observed data onto Ebird.org to contribute to science and conservation studies. All birding skill levels welcome! Attend one or all sessions. You can even eat parts of them! Cattails are useful for many things because they are flexible and sturdy. Join us for a day of hands-on activities making Ojibwe-style cattail mats and learn about the many ways people in the past used these plants in their everyday lives. These mats will be used for the nature center cultural programs. Make a small toy to take home. FREE! Explore a forest, wetland and prairie to see how nature creates functioning ecosystems. Learn about our wetland’s flammable gas, catch pond invertebrates, and help save native species in this week-long outdoor adventure! Students will develop and lead a service project, focusing on how we can work together to create cooperative communities. Register by Monday, August 8th.
