February 2014 SEVC- the English-speaking vet congress in southern Europe The South European Veterinary Conference (SEVC) scientific and workshops program is now online (www.sevc.info) featuring lecture streams in a wide range of small animal topics and specialties. It includes lecture halls devoted to small and exotic animal medicine and surgery (such as feline medicine, emergency critical care, dermatology, orthopaedics, to name a few), as well as dedicated streams on practice management and veterinary nursing that have proven popular with congress delegates. Facts you may not know about SEVC Did you know that this conference is hosted predominantly in English? About 95% of lecture halls hold English-speaking lecturers (with Spanish simultaneous translation headsets being available.) A few lecture halls are devoted to Spanish lectures, with English simultaneous translation, and there are also dedicated Polish and Russian lecture halls. SEVC hosts lectures and workshops over a 3-day period in the heart of Barcelona. The next congress dates are October 16-18, 2014. It is housed yearly at the spacious and comfortable Fira de Barcelona, located conveniently in the city and well-connected to the airport and nearby hotels. The congress has over 9 halls and more than 80 lecturers, many of which are internationally renowned, as well as a large exhibition hall showcasing a wide array of international veterinary product and service companies. The congress runs daily from 8:30 am to 7 pm, interspersed with coffee & tapas breaks during the day that allow delegates to relax amongst the exhibitors or even take in some of Barcelona, with its beautiful Montjuic fountains just outside the exhibition centre. The weather at this time of year is usually in the mid 20s. As Ian McConnell, a UK veterinarian, practice manager and congress delegate, said in a recently published news piece in the Vet Times on the 2013 congress, “A variety of subject streams were available at the conference, offering something for everyone in small animal practice. The quality of the CPD was excellent and the range of expert speakers truly international.” In regards to the popular practice management streams at the conference and in an article published in the latest Practice Life issue of the magazine (January 2014), Ian adds, “SEVC is a hugely successful gathering of the practice teams worldwide. With its long-standing affiliation with NAVC (North American Veterinary Conference), attendance is definitely worthwhile.” This international congress has seen extraordinary growth in the last 7 years with an especially growing popularity amongst the international veterinary community. The SEVC is a must for any veterinarian
