A Call To Worship

In Celebration Of Academic Achievement

Leader: God of truth and knowledge, by your wisdom we are taught the way and the truth. Bless our graduates and others as who have attained some academic achievement this school year.

All: We thank you for those who taught and worked beside them, and all who supported them along the way.

Leader: Father we ask that you walk with the graduates as they leave school and move forward in life. Take away their anxiety and confusion of purpose.

All: Strengthen their many talents and skills, instill in them a confidence in the future you have plan, where their energies may be gathered up and used for the good of all people.

Leader: Father, we ask you to be with those we are honoring who are still in school. Protect them this summer during a time of fun and learning. Protect them when they return to school from the insanity of gun violence, the difficulty of underfunding and the struggle of low expectations.

All: Father thank you for this day of new beginnings, a time to remember and move on, and a time to believe in what your love can bring as we lift our voices and sing as we celebrate academic achievement.

#571 Lift Every Voice and Sing

1. Lift every voice and sing, Till earth and heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of liberty; Let our rejoicing rise High as the listening skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun Of our new day begun, Let us march on till victory is won.

2. Stony the road we trod, Bitter the chastening rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, Have not our weary feet Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered, We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered; Out from the gloomy past, Till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

3. God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way; Thou who hast by Thy might, Led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, Our God where we, met Thee, Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee; Shadowed beneath Thy hand, May we forever stand, True to our God, True to our native land.

Oh Magnify The Lord!

Oh magnify the Lord! For He is worthy to be praised

Oh magnify the Lord! He is worthy to be praised! (He is worthy!)

BTrivia ibleStudy

The daughters of Zelophehad, Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah are the subject of our Bible Study from Numbers 26.

Zelophehad who own land and other possessions died without having a son. After their father’s death the daughters came to Moses with an unheard-of request. What was the request:

A. To give them a cut of their Father’s possession equal to what his brothers are receiving.

B. To take his body back to their home.

C. To be married off to Moses and his brothers

D. To be given protection because they had no brothers.

Email your answer to Sister Tonya Haygood bibletrivia316@gmail.com or message your answer to the Greater Bethel Facebook page www.Facebook.com/GBAAthens. One winner will be drawn each week from the correct answers and will be announced on Thursday 7:00 PM ET during Bible Study.

Armell Stroud

The The LeaderOf LeaderOf TheBand TheBand

Psalm 100 reminds us to make a joyful noise unto the Lord, serving God with gladness and coming before his presence with singing. Armell Stroud, educator, entrepreneur, entertainer, and man of faith was the embodiment of Psalm 100, a leader of the band.

Through it all Brother Stroud was a man of God holding firmly to Jesus.He led the band in Psalm 100 fashion giving freely of his musical gifts, playing, singing, teaching, and serving with gladness for many churches in Athens and beyond. Including our church, The Greater Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church where he played for us until God called him home.

A renaissance man Brother Stroud led the band with excellence. As an educator, he led the band as an innovator in the classroom exposing students to art, beauty, and culture. As an entrepreneur, he led the band furthering his father’s legacy by successfully operating night clubs, apartment houses, and other businesses. As an entertainer, he led the band performing with alltime Jazz greats thrilling audiences worldwide with his talents.

As we mourn the passing of this leader of the band let us take solace in these lyrics from the singer, songwriter Dan Fogelberg:

“The leader of the band is tired And his eyes are growing old But his blood runs through My instrument And his song is in my soul My life has been a poor attempt To imitate the man I'm just a living legacy

To the leader of the band.”

Father God, thank you for Brother Armell Stroud, a Godly leader of the band.

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;

4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand;

6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;

8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
