Emergency Evacuation Procedure ACTION TO BE TAKEN ON DISCOVERY OF A FIRE 1. If you discover a fire, raise the alarm immediately by using the nearest fire alarm call point. 2. Do not try to tackle the fire unless professionally trained to do so. Fire extinguishers should only be used if your escape route is blocked by fire. 3. The fire service should be called by the responsible person to every outbreak or suspected outbreak of fire no matter how small. 4. The fire service should still attend even if the fire appears to have self-extinguished.
EVACUATION PROCEDURE ON HEARING THE FIRE ALARM 1. All employees should leave the building immediately by the nearest available exit and proceed to a designated assembly point without stopping to collect personal belongings. 2. Employees should ensure that any visitors within their zone of operation leave the building promptly and are accompanied by a staff member. 3. Please be aware that some members of staff may need assistance in evacuating the building. 4. If safe to do so, each area should be checked by the fire marshals as they leave the premises, checking toilets on their way out to ensure total evacuation. Always ensure when doing this you are continually moving towards a place of safety and towards the fire exit. 5. Do not delay your own evacuation if you encounter someone who refuses to leave. 6. A register should be taken at the assembly point to establish whether all staff are accounted for. If anyone is reported missing this information should be passed to a manager and the fire service without delay. 7. In no circumstances should search parties be organised to search the premises for missing persons. 8. Do not re-enter the building until you are instructed to do so and it is safe to re-occupy the buildings.
EVACUATION ROUTES Evacuation signage is placed all around the building therefore please use this as a guide. All fire exits and assembly points will be pointed out on every employee’s first day. ● There are 7 evacuation points on the ground floor; 2 at either end of the warehouse and 3 exiting to the front of the building including the staff entrance. ● The first-floor offices have two main exits down staircases at both ends of the building. ● The fire assembly point can be found in the car park as marked by the fire assembly point sign.
