H&S Briefing This Health and Safety briefing applies to all employees within the business. Please read carefully through the briefing before starting work at BULK POWDERS™. Should you have any questions, please direct these towards your trainer or manager on your first day. This briefing covers key policies in our Health and Safety Manual, excluding Fire Safety which is covered separately. Further job specific safety training will be carried out with employees that require it.

MANUAL HANDLING Your role may require you to manually lift, push, pull and carry. This should be carried out in a safe manner at all times. You have a legal obligation to use devices made available and to conform to instructions given to you on manual handling. Please follow the simple steps below every time you need to move an item: 1. Can you avoid lifting it? Can a mechanical aid be used instead e.g. forklift, pump truck. 2. Is it too heavy? Avoid lifting, pulling or pushing anything you believe to be too heavy or too large for you to safely move yourself, instead ask for help from a colleague or use a mechanical aid. 3. Can you reach? Do not over stretch to reach an item above you, ask for help or use a ladder. How to lift safely:

FORKLIFT AWARENESS Forklifts operate in both the warehouse and production environment. Forklifts are only operated by those trained and licenced to do so. We provide barriers and clear walkways for employees to avoid forklifts and employees working in the same space. However in some areas, when picking in the warehouse or in the main blending room of the production facility, forklifts do operate in the same area. Caution should always be taken in the warehouse/production environments and you are required to stay clear of the forklift when in operation. High visibility vests are provided and should be worn at all times in the warehouse. WORKING AT HEIGHT Employees working in the warehouse may at times need to use ladders to access products stored on shelves out of reach. Ladders should not be used by any worker until full training has been given on how to operate and use the ladders safely. ALLERGENS BULK POWDERS™ is a food manufacturing and storage environment and therefore you will come into contact with allergens. You should be aware of these allergens for your own safety and that of our customers. The 14 recognised allergens are as follows: H&S Briefing (Aug 2018)

Your Safety If you believe you have an allergy or an adverse reaction to any of the above, please ensure your line manager is aware. Depending on the nature of the allergy, allergens do not always have to be consumed to cause a reaction, therefore please take extra care when handling or packing items containing foods you may be allergic to. If you believe you are suffering from an allergic reaction, inform the on-duty first aider immediately. Customer Safety As a food manufacturer, cross-contamination of allergens needs to be prevented. Potential sources of cross-contamination include people, storage, manufacturing process, equipment and cleaning. Cross-contamination from all sources can be and are controlled by the business; from ensuring employees wear the correct protective clothing when in direct contact with products to ensuring the correct processes and cleaning procedures are followed. Those working directly with food products will receive further training on how to control allergen risks. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) Although we take all reasonable precautions to reduce exposure to workplace hazards, there are areas in the business that we do provide personal protective equipment (PPE). Employees working in or entering the warehouse are required to wear a high-visibility vest and safety steel-capped boots at all times. Employees working in the production facility are required to wear overcoats, hairnets, snoods, safety shoes/shoe covers, gloves, aprons and sleeve covers. These should be put on in the gowning room and no one should enter the main facility without this necessary protective clothing. All employees in these areas will be instructed on how to wear their PPE correctly. PPE should be worn as instructed and any defects must be reported immediately. FIRST AID BULK POWDERS™ have trained first aiders on site at all times. The first aiders are indicated on the green First Aid signs displayed around the building. On your first day, you will be shown where your H&S Briefing (Aug 2018)

nearest first aid box is. If you require access to first aid, please always speak to the on-duty first aider in the first instance. If there is an accident or near miss at work, this must be reported either to your line manager or onduty first aider immediately. HOUSEKEEPING In order to prevent slip, trips and falls in the workplace, it is essential that the work environment is kept tidy and free of hazards e.g. spillages, rubbish on floor, rugs/matts lifting, and trailing cables.
