To cure or stop tumor growth is not an easy task as the reason behind this disease is the wrong growing cells. It has a way of turning the immune system, which was meant to be a form of body defense against itself. Various treatment methods can control this disease for a long time but cannot cure, says Marc Bombenon. Reason being that the cancer bacterium is like other healthy cells that grow abnormally. Hence, the method used in treatment to eradicate this disease is not that effective. It only kills some of the cancer cells, and the remaining cells trick the immune system and form the tumor. However, new research may have found a new way to break this vicious cycle. A new strategy has been proposed to prevent aggressive tumors from generating resistance to chemotherapy. This strategy is a medium to open new avenues to improve the effectiveness of therapies in many patients who are currently being treated with classical radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is a method used to kill cancer cells and to also stop the tumor from generating. According to Marc, killing these cancer cells can help more cells of this disease to grow in what has been referred to as the tumor growth paradox. This occurs because the cellular debris that is left behind triggers an inflammatory response from our immune system, which, in turn, stimulates the generation of more cancer cells.
Marc Bombenon is the CEO of SureCall based out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada is a man full of knowledge in different areas of life. He outlined that, a researcher called Megan Sulciner and her colleagues used cytotoxic treatment and other targeted drugs to kill off laboratory-cultured cancer cells. The resulting cellular debris was injected into mice. The rodents already had a few cancer cells in them but were not enough to produce tumor growth on their own. They also treated mice with traditional chemotherapy drugs. Both approaches stimulated the spread of cancer cells and facilitated their ability to grow a tumor. The tumor growth induced by debris could be seen both in vivo and in vitro. In their studies, they explained that traditional cancer therapy might be a double-edged sword in the sense that the treatment used to cure cancer is also helping it survive and reproduce. Overcoming the dilemma of debris-induced tumor growth is paramount if we are to prevent tumor recurrence of treatment-resistant tumors, which is the failure of cancer therapy.
