You will also notice that all the chords are seventh chords; E7, A7 and B7. Seventh chords have a dissonant quality which yields a bluesy sound.When learning Blues students often confuse the dominant seventh chord and major seventh. Dominant Seventh chords, use the symbol of a note name + 7. For example: C7, D7, E7, etc. Students often confuse this with the major seventh chord. The symbol used for a major 7th is maj7. A dominant 7th is not the same as a major 7th chord. But, to form a dominant 7th you must know how to form a major 7th chord first because these two types of chords are related.Seventh chords are made by stacking 3 thirds on each other. A major 7th chord is formed by playing the root (1st) + 3rd + 5th + 7th notes of a major scale. For example, Cmaj7 is made up of the following notes; C, E, G and BA dominant 7th is formed by simply lowering the 7th note a half step. These are the chords you want to know to play blues. For example, C7 is made up of the following notes; C, E, G and Bb. So, the only difference between these two chords is the 7th note.
