Rosana Mendes Campos Série: Songs of Innocence and of Experience - 2010 / 2011 Rosana Mendes Campos’s work is ambitious and undaunted – confronting such large scale screens is not a small thing, especially when she controls the colour and the vibration of the strokes. In this sense, her work is spectacular which I would describe as a monumental quest of great body masses, such as what we may see in William Blake’s works. The chromatic density is intense and her drawings prefigure a particular visual novelty for her shifting the viewpoint to a position slightly below the midpoint. Due to the texture, I would dare compare her paintings to some examples of Mexican murals. As I mention such examples, I do it out of a necessity of referencing her work in the traditions of painting that are alive and throbbing in her work. Rosana Mendes Campos SÊrie: My Exiled Half- 2013 / 2015 My work is autobiographical, I would say that it is even confessional. I broach femininity, sexuality, pain, especially the pain of being a woman, and also the euphoria, ecstasy and reverie. Therefore, I use symbolic language. The confessional work process is highly self-destructive because it requires me to expose my faults, my insanity, my "ugliness." .It consists of a constant deconstruction of one’s own image. As Michel Beaujour claims, the confessional artist is a being torn apart. I have come to realise that the more confessional my work gets, the deeper I penetrate my core and tap my innermost feelings and cravings, pouring them onto the screen, the more universal it becomes. While diving in this femininity sea which I identify myself with, I bond with the woman of my century. I am all these women, my identity is immersed in this female sea. Paradoxically, as I get lost in it I find my own true self. I empathise with all women, black or white, rich or poor, powerful or subordinate, single or married, submissive or free. Simultaneously, I endeavour not to drown in this sea and lose my own identity. The word identity here acquires its double entendre, identity as the parity and equality of the group and that of individuation and self-awareness. I want to submerge in this sea of identicals and emerge with all this load, but paradoxically, with my artistic subjectivity.

Rosana Mendes Campos SÊrie: Incubus/Succubus 2012 Rosana Mendes Campos's "women" are not simple nudes. The painting of a naked body, requires nothing more than a careful observation of the model, some good knowledge of Anatomy, a certain ease of drawing as well as technical painting craftsmanship. That's all. Any student or amateur painter paints nudes. Some even very nice... In Campos’s work, there's no such simple-mindedness. .. There is thought guiding her choices and her actions. There's a rational organization of the spaces and, above all, a creative impulse and poetic art in transmuting all these human forms and animals taken from reality. In this reality her discourse is born. A reality, often harsh and corrosive, sometimes laden with symbols, sensuality and desire; however, always shrouded in mystery. The mystery is the invisible and poetic veil, which simultaneously cover and reveal like in a game, nude femininity, the pain, the joy and the beauty of these women who populate the screens of Rosana. Maybe, only us women, partners in our destinies may understand in depth, its symbolism and the plurality of meanings that transcend this set of works. Mariza Trancoso -- artist and former professor at the Fine Arts School at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil

"Art is exorcism. I paint dreams and visions too; the dreams and visions of my time. Painting is the effort to produce order; order in yourself. There is much chaos in me, much chaos in our time.“ Otto Dix

Rosana Mendes Campos Rosana Mendes Campos is a Brazilian artist with a degree in Fine Arts and an MA in English Literature from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Rosana Mendes Campos’ career path is common among her contemporary women artists. At one point in her career, she consciously opted for the care of family and children. It was a lucid choice, as she did not fully abandon art, she left it in latency. Over time, as the children grew up and the yearning persisted, she resumed her studies and artistic production. Rosana planned her comeback with rigor, opting for the improvement of her skills, undergoing earnest training under supervision, at first, with professor Alan Fontes at the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University and, later, with the Grandmaster Mariza Trancoso joining her workshop, under the guidance of whom she managed to find her real space in art. At present, she has incorporated her life experiences into her work, showing maturity in her production, conscious of the importance of her decision to embrace art, and endeavouring to contribute significantly to the Brazilian art history. She has already taken part in several collective exhibitions in her home town, and is now represented by Beatriz Abi-Acl Art Gallery in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
