MUNICIPAL HYBRID location: Wroclaw, PL program: mixed-use client: Wroclaw University of Technology status: master’s degree
description The main directive guiding the design has been to inscribe an urbanistic and architectural pattern (program) onto an excisting post – communist residential area. In the architectural sense these pattern has to refill necessery needs of ongoing community. In the urbanistic meaning, the program has to be an replicable example for future development of descripted district. In order to do so, a complex hybrid has to emerge. The intention was to create multifunctional platform with the abilitiy to extend itself in time and space. By studing computer architecture author was able to find appropriate architectural equivalents of contemporary PC's hardware. The words such as motherboard, add – on components, to program served to find convenient design code.

Client’s intention was to find the best architectural and urbanistic solution for a residential development located on a narrow island in Wroclaw’s city centre. The primary goal was to design a building that will actually fit into it’s surroundings and enable to use nearby space for various social activities. That’s why most of space is social and open to visitors. Also a buildings programme has been adjusted to emphasize its metropolitan character. That’s why groundfloor and first level consists of retail, commercial and office function. Subterrain level hosts a car parking space and marina security and maintainance rooms. Private apartments starts from second level to fifth. Architecture aesthetics corresponds to baroque monumental facade of the Wroclaw University building.

„THE NEPTUN” LANTERN location: New Market Square, Wroclaw, PL program: fountain composition/public space client: Municipality of Wroclaw status: competition
description
ArchiBOT
Old Wroclaw’s second largest market square was almost entirely demolished during the II World War. It was rebuilt in a modern manner in 50' and 60' and awaited almost 80 years for it’s fountain composition to be rebuilt. Presented proposal is definetly modern but with a significant respect for the past. An abstract shape of fountain basis may look meaningless, but it isn’t. It refers strictly to city’s history. It’s shape represents historic form of New Marked Square district. Corten steel panes perforations is like a coded pattern it corresponds to square’s history. Vertical form of a pillar has perforations on each side. Perforations forms god Neptun’s silhouette. When light is lit from the inside it shines in all four directions creating a landmark lantern in Wroclaw’s cityscape. God Neptun’s silhouette refers to an old sculpture wich stood there almost 80 years earlier. It represented city’s affiliation with the Hansa.
