1. Landscape Design Sara Protasoni 2012_2013
Description This project was situated in an hypothetical park without context. The only restrictions were the dimensions and the slope of the soil. In this area we have been asked to put three different artworks along a path that we decided. Our idea was to produce a straight path where the sculpures were located on different heights. Thanks to this choice the users could concentrate on the single artwork but at same time , walking through the park, they could have different perceptions of the whole system.

Description This Project, facing the Lago Inferiore of Mantova, is focused on the design of an hostel and a European academy. We have tried to be less invasive as possible and to emphasize the presence of the water. Thanks to this project we recived a mention in the international contest “Europe’s became” and also the request to partecipate to the “8a Biennal Internacional del Paisatge” in Barcelona.

Description A project located in the ex jail of Mantova, a very delicate area because of the close presence of the church of San Sebastiano and “Casa del Mantegna, one of the masterpieces of the architect Giulio Romano. We decided to connect the two streets adjacent to the area using a path that passed through the residential buildings. We chose also to combine different buildings, from the more classic residential typology to the students house.

4. Town Planning Stefano Boeri, Michele Brunello 2014_2015
Description This is a project in Milano focused on increasing the biodiversity of the city. The crucial step when we started our project, was to change our perspective, our point of view and understand what a day in an “urban insect” life must be. An input for the project which tries, through a series of minimal interventions, to improve the everyday struggle of the urban fauna existence in order to improve biodiversity and ultimately, our own urban habitat. So how could we guarantee the link between the different green fragments of the city? Links where tree planting is impossible? Where the congestion of buildings hinders the insertion of green paths? The solution that we found was to use a different layer in the city, detached from the human paths. A layer, which hovers over our heads, to which we pay little concern: the city’s cables system.

5. Building Technology Studio Francesco Fabris, Anna Magri, Sergio Zabot 2014_2015
Description The designed building is part of a larger intervention, located in an abandoned area of S.Cristoforo sul Naviglio. The area is famous for the presence of a relic of Aldo Rossi. The design of the master plan, was focused both on the respect of the Monument, and on the will to bring back the composition to a human scale. We decided that the best place to build in was the “no man’s land under the bridge that crosses the area of the master plan, in order to re-use a space that otherwise would be left apart. We opted for two separate buildings, part of a communicating system, each one with a single pitched roof, converging right under the bridge. The building hosts huge Spaces for studying, an auditorium, a small library, and gives access to the surrounding garden.

6. Design Studio 5 Layered city Dorigati Remo 2014_2015
Description The concept of the project was born from the idea of preserving the urban void, as a protected species in the environment of the city, As immediate response to this criticism, we decided to build on the borders of the area, in an extreme protection act, materialized in the realization of a physical limit to the area, corresponding to four linear buildings on the edges of the site. The project is based on three different layers: an underground street system, that sews this piece of the city with the rest of the urban system; a layer dedicated to public functions, and on top, the residential layer, guarding the urban void on its inside, a situationist space, a common space suitable for public events or for every necessity of the surrounding population.

The concept of the project was born from the idea of preserving the urban void, as a protected species in the environment of the city, that, nowadays, is constantly increasing its building density. As immediate response to this criticism, we decided to build on the borders of the area, in an extreme protection act, materialized in the realization of a physical limit to the area, corresponding to four linear buildings on the edges of the site. After this first conceptual hypothesis, there was the need to create an infrastructural and functional connection with the rest of the city, in order to generate a complex urban system, perfectly suiting the necessities of the modern city users. The project is based on three different layers: an underground street system, that sews this piece of the city with the rest of the urban system; a layer dedicated to public functions, identified as necessary element to build a solid community; and on top, the residential layer, guarding the urban void on its inside, a situationist space, with no defined function; a common space suitable for public events or for every necessity of the surrounding population.

7. Master Thesis A museum dedicated to the battles of Custoza and its memorial Faroldi Emilio, Bricolo Filippo 2016
Description The goal fo the thesis was to combine architecture and memory, studying how architecture itself can act as a re-evocative tool. The main part of the work is the project fot the Museum of Custoza, first by analyzing the site, the main problems of the area, then, creating a structure that works as an the historical and physical introduction to the ossuary. The intervention has been thought in the the most respectful way, trying not to change the current composition but solving, as much as possible, the critical issues of the area, both architectural and conceptual.

NIMETO: TRASFORMATION OF A TRADE SCHOOL (competition winner) Studio Maarten Van Kestern 2018
Description The goal is to transform the school into a lively workshop. The smell of wood fills all spaces, someone is painting a door or building a chair, groups of students are gathered around big objects. The proposal is to create six open spaces throughout and in between the buildings. These spaces connect the buildings, crafts and students. Here one finds practice rooms, a schoolyard (which functions as an outdoor workshop) and places to drink coffee. Meetings no longer take place in lifeless corridors, but in these open centres Every center is marked by a clear frame: a prefab timber load bearing structure filled with acoustic materials. This architectonic system creates a necessary clarity in the buildings. The frames accentuate the work and landscapes within.
