architecture PROJECT - a liibrary on the Arno : “limes” (bachelor’s thesis) - popelàrka ibuilding

A liibrary on the arno: “limes” THEME: - project of a library and media center LOCATION: - Lungarno Pecori-Giraldi (Florence) YEAR: - 2010 (bachelor’s thesis)

8

DESCRIPTION: The location of the project proposal is a bank of the Arno river where there used to be an ethnic market. The “limes” separate the project site into two part. A square which is meant to be an element of continuity of the urban system and it follows the theme of the “line”. The park acts as a juxtaposition between the geometric shape of the path and the natural shape of the river and it follows the theme of the “circle”. The boundary forms a path in which lies the principal function of the building. The inside of the building follows a geometric shape similar to the shelves of a library. The project is born from the shape of the “limes”: it forms a path united by three large windows which create a sense of grandeur. This building consists of twostories on top of a basement.

Every shade of blue is in contrast with the other materials: the sandstone flooring, the solid oak wood furniture, and the minimalist and linear structures in white painted metal of the display units. Within the boutique, many decorative motifs create a collage, which is ideally connected to the Mediterranean seascapes and defines a specific aesthetic language blending different arts.
