Breman Machinery

Breman Machinery is a family business that has existed since 1864. The company’s daily activities consist of machining steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and bronze in large dimensions, with extreme precision, and with very high-quality standards. In addition, all processes related to steel processing are being performed under one roof, from cutting, welding, and rolling, to machining and

preservation. Breman Machinery has all the in-house knowledge, skills, and resources to offer its clients a complete, modern, and certifed manufacturing process as a contractor within the offshore wind, offshore oil & gas, and yachting industry. Some product examples include special parts for masts, rudders, and keels, produced with extreme accuracy.

SY Kokomo

Multi award winning superyacht Kokomo has access to the shallowest bays. She is 58.4m long and built by Alloy Yachts. The lifting keel is an important part of the yacht because it allows Kokomo to sail in shallower waters where other superyachts cannot. Replacing the keel parts of Kokomo is part of MCM’s yacht management services, in which the company supports the operational aspects of the yacht for the owner.

Three continents working together

Breman Machinery was asked to make ten keel parts that all connect to each other. What made this project fascinating is that it was performed with a team from 3 different continents; Peter Wilson & Jon Jeffreys who represented MCM Newport USA, keel parts Engineer John Wittington from New Zealand, Engineer Mark O’Brien and Captain of SY Kokomo Adam Painter from Mallorca, and Wim Stapel and Niek Breman from Breman Machinery in the Netherlands. Despite the communication from three different time zones, this worldwide collaboration went smoothly, from the start to the moment of supply.

Requirements

It was of utmost importance to MCM Newport that the new components for the yacht were supplied on time. A deal is a deal, after all. Another very important requirement was, of course, that all the parts ft seamlessly so the yacht can perform in all its excellence. >>

Delivery

Designs and drawings were carefully discussed and looked over with the client before production, paying attention to the tiniest details as every detail can make a big impact. When machining products like these, it is always important to leave it up to experienced and professional people, and with great success, because high-quality products have been produced by the Breman team. After machining the products, they were all immediately connected, so there wouldn’t be any surprises during the assembly in Mallorca. There was great pressure on the team to seamlessly connect the new parts to the existing parts, hence the consequences would be immense if this wasn’t the case. The transport to Mallorca was arranged by Breman Machinery, using their regular transporter to safely and timely transport the products. Thanks to a successful collaboration, Kokomo will be able to enjoy the sailing season in her new and improved form.
