If you love Toolbox Basics, Toolbox Floral will certainly win you over. This small floral has always been one of the designer’s favorites. The Mini Floral debuted in Timeworn Toolbox’s first line Putty & Mortar, maybe that’s why it’s her favorite? This little print will be great as a background or accent print in any quilt or project. This palette also fills the need of the perfect background and or coordinate that goes well with so many other fabric collections.
Beautifully coordinated, classic calicos in shades of teal, green, and with warm honey and tan combine to create quilts and more with a throwback appeal to fit our modern sensibilities. The engineered Pin Wheel print gives even beginning quilters a foolproof result! The collection is inspired by, and named for the mother of Marcus Fabrics’ director, Kristin McCartney, and her own treasured quilt.
Carrie Quinn likes to name her collections for members of her family, or other special people in her life. “This new collection, Vivienne, features sage and lilac florals, and is named for my sweet little granddaughter, June Vivienne Quinn. I thought the name Vivienne was so pretty, and perfect for my floral collection. Vivienne is a family name, as well, from June’s maternal grandmother.” Carrie describes the original Vivienne in her family as a remarkable woman who enjoyed the textile arts, earned advanced degrees, and worked as an educator and designer.
Laura Berringer’s new collection is made for lovers of bees! She blends realistic bee motifs with delicate florals, a honeycomb pattern, gentle textures and a gorgeous, multidirectional text design, all in shades of soft yellows and beiges with dove grey. Create quilts, as well as kitchen and garden accessories and more.
Botanical Journal
We’re pleased to introduce our new collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution, a mix of authentic botanical designs that includes allovers, a panel of individual American wildflowers, and a 7oz canvas tote bag panel. The color palette of rose, lilac, sage, butter yellow and cream lends itself to trans-seasonal décor and crafts.
Vivienne
A soft place to land is how some describe home. The textural aspects of the Family (a floral bouquet) and Wallpaper prints in muted shades of red and slate blue offer a contemporary yet winsome take on classic florals, with small scale print motifs and a group of woven coordinates to complete the look. Laura Berringer designs an array of low-volume designs with barely-there color, in themes ranging from celestial sun-moon designs to romantic florals with text, and collage-style prints featuring an unexpected mix of motifs. Their overall faded effect lends a special look to any project. These prints also work perfectly for backgrounds for applique.
A strawberry emery is the little stuffed strawberry you find dangling from a tomato pincushion. In the 19th century, the tomato was filled with wool or cotton scraps, even horsehair or sawdust and used as a pincushion. The strawberry was filled with emery, a very fine mineral sand, that removes any bumps or burrs, and sharpens the needles. Many emeries were beautifully made of satins and velvets, and embellished with silver accents. For Pam Buda, “These highly collectible sewing basics show how ordinary items were created with extraordinary workmanship. I adore them, and they are the inspiration for my new red and black fabric collection”. There is a great variety of reds in this collection – blue reds, orange reds, deep reds.
When combing through the flea markets in France, Dawn Heese has always been drawn to the vintage wovens. In Dawn’s own words, “I love the rustic textures, the stripes and checks are wonderful complements to the romantic florals. You will find wovens such as these in my quilts, mixed with prints and I wanted to make them available to everyone. All the wovens are inspired from vintage and antique pieces from my collection”.
A handmade firkin in original blue paint that still smells like maple syrup became the unlikely inspiration for Pam Buda’s new collection, as she imagined a bucket hanging from the bark of the tree until it fills with sap, then boiling the sap until all that is left is pure syrup. “The browns of tree bark and the shades of blue in my firkin are the inspiration for Maple House. Brown and blue are a favorite color combination of mine, and I had fun choosing vintage prints for this classic line.”
For her new collection, Judie Rothermel begins with color. “One of my favorite colors for quiltmaking has always been Indigo. In fact my home is decorated in deep, rich blues! Everywhere. I even named my blue point Siamese cat Indigo”, says Judie Rothermel. She brings back a lead pattern from years ago, re-colored in this palette, then adds a wealth of coordinates to blend as you like, including seven indigos, seven cheddars and five backgrounds.
