A cane harvesting workplace health and safety officer thought he was doing the right thing by trying to help an injured crocodile that found its way into a Mareeba paddock on Saturday, only for the 1.4 metre saltie to turn around and bite him. Daryl Bell’s hand was locked into the mouth of the reptile, his colleagues having to prise open its jaws with a large spanner. The attack happened at a Peters Road farm, 3km from Mareeba’s CBD when Mr Bell was called by a harvesting machine operator to capture the croc and tape its jaws to remove it. The croc had been burnt the previous day in a cane fire. “It latched onto my hand puncturing my thumb and fingers and it would not let go,” Mr Bell said. “The operator grabbed the tail and I grabbed the jaws but its skin started to peel off, I lost my grip and it grabbed my hand. “Its teeth went right through my thumb nail and

Owner of Harvest Mareeba, Bruce Craven said he prised open the animal’s jaws to remove Mr Bell’s hand. Threats of prosecution made by Environment and Heritage Protection officers to local farmers should they interfere with crocodiles, led Mr Craven

He said it took more than two hours to get an officer on the phone. “They told us to take it to a vet who then euthanized it,” he said. “Having crocodiles in a cane paddock places my men in a dangerous situation and this croc should not have been in the cane. “The EHP has been contacted in the past about removing crocs from this area but they refuse to do anything about the danger.” “They are not supposed to be on the Tablelands.

Nervous wait as banana disease detected

JOURNALIST Rebecca Wallis

Tableland banana farmers are feeling nervous this week as samples taken from a banana plant a Tully farm have returned a positive result from an initial molecular test for Panama disease Tropical Race (TR) 4. Samples taken from

the banana plants have returned a positive result from an initial molecular (PCR) test. Biosecurity Queensland’s Chief Biosecurity Officer, Dr Jim Thompson said a range of diagnostic tests were yet to be completed by the Plant Bios-

ecurity Laboratory in Brisbane and until all tests were completed, a final conclusive positive result cannot be given. “The suite of tests will take up to 4-6 weeks to complete,” Dr Thompson said. “The property owners

are working with Biosecurity Queensland to control and contain any disease and mitigate the risk of further spread. They’re exceptionally proactive and already have strict on-farm biosecurity measures in place on their property. “The property own-

‘Crocs shouldn’t be here’ From P1

“Children ride bikes along this road next to the irrigation channel where the crocs live.” Julatten cane harvesting contractor Gordon Rasmussen, the Katters Australian Party candidate for Cook, was at the scene and was critical of the State Government for “dragging its feet”, trying to prevent the KAP’s ‘Safe Waterways’ legislation from being introduced into Parliament before the upcoming election. “Shane Knuth (Member for Dalrymple) has the bill ready to go so we can do something about controlling the explosion of crocs in the Mareeba area and throughout the north,” Mr Rasmussen said. “There should be no salt water crocodiles on the Tablelands and here we have a serious incident that has

Lime industry under threat By Rebecca Wallis

Lime farmers across the Tablelands say a Federal Government proposal to import limes will ruin their livelihoods and the $31 million industry in Far North Queensland. More than 60 concerned fruit producers attended a meeting in Mareeba last Wednesday, July 12, including federal member for Kennedy Bob Katter and state member for Dalrym-

ple Shane Knuth. Mutchilba lime farmer Karen Muccignat who is on the Mareeba District Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association board, chaired the meeting hoping to gather comments and information to lobby parliament with. She said everyone should be “seriously concerned”. “Citrus are the most susceptible to pests and diseases,” she said. "It does make us nervous. This will go ahead unless we stop it.

“It will affect our businesses but the only way we can argue this is from a science viewpoint because of free trade.” Shane Knuth said the farmers would get 'belted' if the proposal went ahead. “I will be communicating with the minister for agriculture and this is a very, very serious issue and this is about the livelihood of citrus growers throughout Queensland if not Australia,” he said. "Here in Mutchilba and

Dimbulah they were forced out of the tobacco industry and forced to go into other industries such as lime and now they're going to be belted as a result of lime imports, so you can see just how much this is going to impact those farming families. “So I'll also be asking biosecurity Queensland to agree to quarantine. “There is going to be a big fight ahead and we are not mucking around. This is serious stuff."

Bob Katter gave a passionate speech attacking those that support free trade movement and advised the farmers to get a committee together and "go to Canberra". “It's got nothing to do with disease, it's all about free trade," he said. “These people are sick in the head. They have a cancerous disease called free market. There's only one language these people understand and that is a whack in the mouth.”

been reported to the Workplace Health and Safety Department by medical authorities because this was a work place accident. “The State Government seems quite happy for farmers to be attacked by crocs and I can understand why farmers are reluctant to remove dangerous crocs because the Environment Department will chase them through the courts for a $25,000 fine. “Mr Knuth said he will try to have the bill debated and passed in August. “We have to do something now.”

What a weekend! It was standing room only by the time Saturday night of the Mareeba Rodeo came around after a ‘monster’ crowd of spectators rocked up to enjoy the weekend. President of the Rodeo Association Darryl Chaplain said the crowd was bigger than last year by a long way. “It was a monster crowd on Saturday,” he said. “It was a fabulous night and a beautiful weekend. We’re hoping for bigger and better next year.” The annual wild weekend of entertainment kicked off Friday night with the downtown street parade through the main street of Mareeba

which culminated in the crowning of the queen – 18-year-old Logan Foxwell. Joining Logan was Amanda Jenkins who was crowned Princess and Raechal Thorne who was named Miss Popularity. The Rodeo is one of the biggest in the north and local cowboy Kurt Shepherd made sure that attending the lucrative and prestigious PBR in Brisbane wasn’t going to get in his way. The Atherton bull rider rode in the first round in Mareeba on Saturday before flying down to Brisbane to win that evening’s ‘Last Cowboy Standing’ event at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. back to Cairns and drove up to Mareeba to win the bull ride here on the Sunday. Up-and-coming Mareeba bull rider Wyatt Milgate was tipped to be one of the best young talents this year by The Express last week and he didn’t disappoint by winning the Novice bull ride on Sunday on 73 points. Saturday night’s popular State of Origin competition whipped the crowd into a frenzy as blues were pitted against maroons, but unlike the footy it was the blues who came out on top in the arena. NSW had the cumulative amount of points through the horse and cow events across the evening.

Art show winner TWO hundred and seventy sevem local artists put forward their best work last week for the 55th Mareeba Art Society exhibition. Judge Anila Reddy from Cairns praised the high standard of art on display at the Mareeba Sports Hall. On Saturday, July 10 he picked his overall winners. “The quality of the art really is very high,” he said. “There are obviously professional artists out here as well as very interested amateurs. The use of colour, composition, imagination, variety, is there to be seen. It’s really, really good.” The art exhibition is open to artists from anywhere – one of the few remaining competitions to not place restrictions on entries. Mr Reddy said there was a lot of variety among the work. “I think this is more eclectic and diverse than you would see in Cairns,” he said. The overall winner

was Tablelander Lorraine Cross. “Lorraine is interesting because when I was giving the prizes out to those categories, I’d never knew the artist’s name and I didn’t

know Loraine at all, it’s just funny that a lot of the paintings I was choosing were hers,” said the judge. “She’s got a very good use of painting light and dark and getting the co-

A Torres Strait Island woman who works in children’s health and child protection has been formally endorsed as the new Labor candidate for Cook in the forthcoming state election. Cynthia Lui, 40, who has lived in Cairns for the last 11 years, said she was keen to get stuck into the job. “I’ll be working hard, right up until election day to win the support of Cook residents,” said Ms Lui.

“People up here in Far North Queensland remember the cuts made by Campbell Newman’s LNP to our vital government services. “That’s one of the reasons I’m committed to making sure local families have access to first-class health care, quality education and local jobs.” Cynthia currently works as a Child Protection Unit Manager for Cape York/ Gulf Remote Area Aborigi-

nal & Torres Strait Islander Child Care (RAATSICC). She holds a Bachelor of Social Science (double major in Tropical Health & Society and Political Science) from James Cook University’s Cairns campus, a Certificate IV in Community Services (Protective Care) and a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Generalist). Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Labor

State Government had a strong record of delivering for Far North Queensland and believed Cynthia Lui would be a tenacious advocate for Cook residents. “I want Cynthia on my team to continue the fight for the health, education and infrastructure needs of the Far North,” Premier Palaszczuk said. “She has the energy, drive and local experience to stand up for the residents of Cook.”

RFDS raises cash for unit A Royal Flying Doctors volunteer group from the Tablelands raised $35,000 at the Rotary FNQ Field Days in May for a life-saving piece of equipment. The RFDS (Royal Flying Doctors Service) Near & Far Volunteer Auxiliary heard that Cairns Base were in need of a new defibrillator for use on planes. “As we were about to attend one of our biggest fundraisers at the Rotary Field Days, we set out to raise the money needed to fund the project,” said secretary Margaret Godkin. “After advertising what

we were needing, the Tablelands community was very supportive and the Reedybrook Ashes committee has agreed to share half the cost, which is wonderful.” Committee members attended the RFDS Cairns Base on June 15 to present the cheque. Attending were President Grace Cole, Secretary Margaret Godkin, Treasurer Denise McGucken and Cairns Base representatives Leanne Lowe (manager), flight nurse manager Caren Harrison and flight nurse Wendy Agars.

Warren Entsch to bring local issues to the UN Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch will use his appointment to the United Nations later this year to present Australia’s position on a whole range of issues, including showcasing the work being done to preserve the Great Barrier Reef and warning the global community about worsening rates of tuberculosis. Mr Entsch has been appointed as one of two Australian representatives to the UN General Assembly for three months from mid-September, based in New York. Senator for Victoria Gavin Marshall will accompany Mr Entsch as

the Australian Labor Party representative. “I feel privileged to have this opportunity to present Australia’s views on a range of international issues that will be considered through the General Assembly,” Mr Entsch said. “I’m looking forward to finding out more about how other countries approach mental health and suicide prevention activities. As the only MP serving as an independent Chair of a headspace, a former director of the Dr Edward Koch Foundation and working closely with The Junction

Clubhouse and other mental health initiatives in our region, I’m very keen to share our experiences and identify any other areas of opportunity. “The global trade in illicit wildlife is another issue I’m particularly interested in, along with the work that other countries are doing to manage and maintain protected areas like World Heritage sites. ” “Given that we are constantly being lectured on the management of the Reef, this will be a good opportunity to showcase Australia’s Reef 2050 Plan.”

Mareeba Shire Mayor Tom Gilmore says he hopes this won’t detract from other road issues in the Far North.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the new bypass plans at Smithfield roundabout last week along with Minister for Main Roads and Road Safety Mark Bailey, Member for Barron River Craig Crawford and Minister Assisting the Premier in North Queensland Coralee O’Rourke.

Bypass to ease travel for Tablelanders

Tablelanders who regularly travel to Cairns will have an easier commute soon thanks to the announcement last week of a new bypass road at Smithfield. $152 million will be thrown at the project in a bid to reduce the traffic build up for those travelling through the Smithfield roundabout. The project includes a 3.8km-long road running parallel with Captain Cook Highway to provide an alternative route between the McGregor Road intersection and

Yorkeys Knob Road intersection. Mareeba Shire Mayor Tom Gilmore welcomed the news. “I drive that road regularly as you can imagine,” he said. “It’s a death zone – it’s really difficult. Sometimes it’s hopeless trying to get out of second gear along there. So anything that can be done to help that is a great thing.” However, Cr Gilmore said he hoped the bypass wouldn’t detract from other infrastructure projects needing attention in the area. “I hope the Government don’t take their eye

off the Kuranda Range Road,” he said. “The transport infrastructure (in the Far North) needs a massive shake up. “The Atherton Tablelands is the third largest producer of fruit and vegetables in Far North Queensland, but to get those products to market you need to have bitumen roads in place. So without them the cost to ship a tonne of avocados for example is much higher.” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the bypass would significantly improve safety and traffic flow as well as creating 115 fulltime jobs during construction.

The premier made the announcement as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s ‘Governing from Cairns’ week. “The people of Cairns have been hearing about the proposed Smithfield bypass road for a long time now, and Member for Barron River Craig Crawford has been a relentless advocate for the project so I am pleased to announce today it is now a reality,” she said. “The new road will cater for current and future traffic demand on Captain Cook Highway by directing through traffic away from the busy roundabouts at Smithfield and Caravonica.

“This will shorten traffic queues and reduce the risk of crashes at the roundabouts.” Barron River MP Craig Crawford said this announcement was a game changer for Cairns. “I am absolutely stoked the Palaszczuk Government is making this key project a reality,” Mr Crawford said. “Now the funding is secured, TMR will get on with the task of carrying out detailed design. “I know that local businesses and residents will have questions about the project, so it’s important that we reach out to them as soon as possible.”

A new Emergency Management Dashboard designed as a one stop shop for accessing incident related information is now available at trc.qld.gov.au or dashboard.trc.qld.gov. au. The dashboard provides access to live feeds on road closures, current weather conditions, fire incidents, emergency news, local social media feeds and evacuation centres. “Enabling smart centres is a key area that we want to improve over the next couple of years. Providing important information for residents regarding emergency sit-

uations or incidents in a dashboard format is a great outcome for people and emergency services to access important information to be safe, prepared and keep informed,” said Mayor Joe Paronella. Whilst some of the features will only be available during disasters when the Local Disaster Coordination Centre has been activated, the dashboard has a number of useful tools that can be used on a daily basis. “Having an easily accessible portal to record and publicise local and state road closures to our community is a massive step forward,” he said.

The majority of them are represented at the festival,” said Chairman Giuliano Cordenos who created the event 19 years ago. “It’s very popular. “There’s a lot of nomads that stay for it. We met some people from Perth last year who came for it. They came for the rodeo

and shows and stayed for the festival.” Showcasing everything from dance and food from multiple countries around the world, the event starts with a parade at 9.30am. The day continues with non-stop entertainment including Aboriginal, Torres Strait, PNG, Filipino, Italian, Spanish, Albanian, Greek, Polynesian and Australian performers.

Project sees Lakes updated A six month project that has beautified the Lakes area of Mareeba has come to end, thanks to a group of jobseekers. Ten participants worked with a supervisor to renovate footpaths, building

their skills and improving the area at the same time. Working closely with Mareeba Shire Council, the group – who were employed through QITE – worked hard to clean, paint and generally update

the area. “This has been funded through the Dept of Employment Work for the Dole jobactive contract,” said Jillian Trout from QITE. “QITE is a jobactive provider and we would

love to continue to improve community assets through work for the dole projects.” The project came about through the Lakes Steering Project which was started by the Mareeba Chamber of Commerce.

Mower donated to ‘legend’ A brand new John Deere mower recently presented to local legend Geoff Guest reflects the esteem in which he is held throughout the Far North. Geoff’s untiring, successful work with troubled youths is well known to many, and consequently many put up their hands to contribute when it was made known that this elderly icon was in need. Some weeks ago, long time Cairns local, Bruce Mackay-Payne, decided to approach local business and individuals in a quest to raise funds to buy the mower as a gesture of appreciation for all Geoff has done for the local community. Geoff, and his late and much revered wife, Norma, devoted the majority of their own lives to putting young, mostly Indigenous youths’ lives back on track. ‘Old Man’ and ‘Aunty Norma’ as they came to be known affectionately, established their Petford Youth Camp back in the 1970s, taking in young offenders, drug users and substance sniffers, or with

minds and enhance their health and physical fitness. These days, Geoff runs the property alone, still helping many youths, but concentrating now on helping the kids by educating the parents about health and nutrition. “I sincerely thank all those who contributed to this mower, I am truly humbled by this generosity,” Geoff said. Bruce Mackay-Payne said donations of all sizes

were swift to come in from businesses and people who knew Geoff personally. Major donors included National Australia Bank, Trinity Petroleum, the Top Pub in Kuranda, Deep Sea Diver’s Den, and several very generous individuals. “We would also like to express our gratitude to Honeycombes in Tolga, Mr Chris Henderson and Luke Centofanti, who personally delivered the mower to Geoff’s property.”

The LAND World-first biorefinery initiative

The sugarcane industry is set to fundamentally change in Far North Queensland following an announcement today by the Minister for State Development, Dr Anthony Lynham, of State Government support of MSF Sugar’s Biorefinery Project on the Atherton Tableland. Once operational, MSF Sugar’s Biorefinery Project will be a world first initiative that will see the company produce sugar, green base load electricity and ethanol from one location, with all three products manufactured through the effective and efficient use of biomass materials grown locally on the Atherton Tableland. Supporting the project through the State Government Biofutures Acceleration Program (BAP), the announcement by Minister Lynham recognises the MSF Sugar Tableland Biorefinery Project as one that will deliver on the Government’s vision to develop an industrial biotechnology and bioproducts sector in Queensland. Still in its infancy, the sector requires substantial research investment to uncover innovative scientific and industrial technologies designed to convert sustainable waste into bioproducts.

The Government support obtained through the BAP will be used by MSF Sugar to complete a farm to market feasibility study that examines all areas of the value chain relating to the establishment of a Biorefining industry on the Atherton Tableland, effectively fast-tracking the company’s plans to diversify the industry. MSF Sugar’s Biorefinery Project builds on the company’s vision to build a biofutures legacy for the people of Far North Queensland, with estimates for the project predicting a doubling of revenue for the sugarcane industry and the creation of year-round, high-value and knowledgeintensive regional jobs. This will lead to a more diversified and durable economy, bringing both economic and environmental benefits to the Tableland region. The Biorefinery will be an enhanced sugar mill consisting of four important sections; the sugar mill, an agave juice mill, the green power station and a distillery. MSF Sugar’s vision for the biofutures industry is substantial with plans to develop 4,000 ha of Tableland farmland into agave plantations.

MSF Sugar’s Tableland Mill Manager, Pat Ryan, surveys the Mill one last time as he announces his retirement from the sugar industry.

Mill boss calls it a day

ONE of the sugar industry’s longest standing leaders, Tableland Mill Manager, Pat Ryan, has called it a day. Mr Ryan who has been associated with the Tableland Mill for 22 years announced his retirement last week. During his time Mr Ryan has worked in industry development and management roles and overseen a number of substantial plant upgrades, including

a $42 million plant expansion that was completed in 2013. In reflecting on Mr Ryan’s decision to retire from the industry, MSF Sugar CEO, Mike Barry paid homage to the contribution Mr Ryan has made to the Tableland facility and the industry as a whole. “Pat has devoted his career to the sugar industry and is a well-known figure within the Tableland community. With this an-

SUGAR REPORTS MOSSMAN MILL CRUSHING STATISTICS WEEK 5 Mossman Mill plant availability and throughput were below budget for Week 5. The factory processed 33,643 tonnes of cane at an average crushing rate of 336 tonnes/hour. The major down time during the week was due to wet weather interruptions at the start of the week. Inside the factory, milling train control issues lead to numerous trips of the mills on high load which also affected boiler stability with frequent high load swings. The feeding station also contributed a high number of stops with a drive motor fault on the main carrier. • Total for week: 33,643 tonnes • CCS for week: 12.16 • Total cane crushed to date: 166,698 tonnes • CCS average to date: 11.78 • 2017 crop estimate: 930,000 tonnes

nouncement, Pat leaves behind a valuable legacy and his knowledge of the region will be greatly missed”. Mr Ryan started his career with Cane Supply at the Babinda Mill, moving to the Tableland Mill in 1995 to oversee the development of the sugar industry on the Tableland which at the time, was considered a bold move as it was the first sugar mill to be constructed in Queensland in 75 years.

Completed in 1998, the Tableland Mill commenced crushing that same year and in 2017, it remains the newest and most technologically advanced sugar mill in Australia. Pat has been integral to delivering a number of key milestones including a 400% increase in production. According to Mr Ryan, “After working at the Mill for 22 years I regard my time with MSF Sugar as

some of the most pivotal of my career, but I am now looking forward to the next chapter in my life”. Mr Ryan’s last day with MSF Sugar will be Friday 4 August, after which he will move to the Hinchinbrook region where he plans to enjoy retirement on property he purchased some time ago. The role will be performed in the interim by Acting Mill Manager, Mr Kirk Lang.

The moment that you passed, Our hearts were torn in two, One side filled with heartache, The other died with you. We often lie awake at night, When the world is fast asleep. And take a walk down memory lane, With tears upon our cheeks. Remembering you is easy, We do it everyday. But missing you is heartache, That never goes away. We hold you tightly within our hearts, And there you will remain. Until the joyous day arrives, That we will meet again. Deeply loved and missed, Ivanka, Zdenka, Paul, Jelena, Glen, Suzi, Jamie, Daniel, Gojkica, Brianna, Matthew, Luke and Ivanka.

Showing off in Atherton By Rebecca Wallis

Roosters go down 32-20

Roosters captain Adam Molloy.

Mark McMahon and In the Sack.

Suburbs have held on to claim a 32-20 win over a fast finishing Atherton Roosters at Gordonvale’s Alley Park on Saturday night. The opening 20 minutes saw Suburbs with all the ball possession which allowed them to skip out to a 12-0 lead. Atherton came back into the contest with two tries shortly before the break which narrowed the score to 1210. Three tries in the space of ten minutes shortly after the restart pushed Suburbs further in front 26-10. But to their credit, the Roosters stayed in the hunt and fought back to 26-10 with five minutes remaining. However a Suburbs try on fulltime wrapped up the points for the homeside. The Roosters and Suburbs played a 22-all draw in reserve grade, while the under 19 points went to the Roosters 36-22. This Saturday the Roosters host Kangaroos in three grades from 4pm at Atherton’s Roosters Stadium.

Although some riders were put off the Atherton Show after they imposed the Hendra vaccine ruling, plenty still showed up over both days on July 10-11. Young and old, beginners and experienced, show jumpers and show horses mingled together in the main arena putting their horses through their paces. As usual the show jumping attracted riders from all over the State thanks to its high standard and good

prize money. Show horse classes in hand and ridden were well attended with riders displaying ponies, horses and even ex-racehorses. Whitney Sugden-Smith took home a bundle of ribbons on her Thoroughbred ‘The Take’. The 14-yearold horse is no stranger to success having twice won the Mt Garnet Cup in his former career as a racehorse. Now turning his hoof to the showring, The Take won the Champion led Thoroughbred and Cham-

Mikayla Jade riding on her two matching palomino stock horse crosses.

Racing thrills and spills 54 (2nd), Nathan Hewitt and Hamish Farrow 27 (3rd). B Grade – Russell Walmsley 49 (1st), Slatah Walmsley 45 (2nd), Dale McFarlane 42 (3rd). A Grade – Owen Jonsson 54

(1st), David Slade 49 (2nd), Andy Gamblin 45 (3rd). The next race day will be held on Sunday August 20, with everyone welcome to come and watch the thrills and spills.

Bulls look to chase down Comets The Mareeba Bulls will head down the range tomorrow night to take on the Southside Comets in a special catch up game. The game, meant to played in round 13, was cancelled when the Comets home ground was doubled booked. After a weekend off to enjoy the Mareeba Rodeo festivities

the Bulls are hoping to bring home all three points against the fourth placed Comets. The Bulls will be forced into a couple of changes with Youi Sato and Adrian Madrid expected to come into the premier starting eleven with John Ghensi and Ben Stabile unavailable for the Thursday night

clash. It’s a must win for the Mareeba side, with not only the battle for the premiership race still alive, but the battle to survive the top four and a finals spot is no easy task given the way the 2017 FNQ Premier league season has unfolded. “Every game is must win for us,” said Coach Alex Srhoj.

Eight year old Peyton Kaye from Wongabel and Peggy.

Endurance riding day gives hints and tips

Owen Jonnson won the A Grade category on Sunday.

The Tableland Competition Car Club held a race day on Sunday at the Tepon Motor Racing Circuit. Top points for the day went to: C Grade – Mitchell White 55 (1st), Clint Mackedie

pion led ANSA horse among others. Another rider who was enjoying the opportunity to show off their steed was eight-year-old Peyton Kaye from Wongabel. Peyton was riding her little pony Peggy and took part in the ‘Rider Under 9 years’ class. Horse lovers were lucky that one of the main acts at the show was trick rider Mikayla Jade. Mikayla showed off some dare-devil stunt riding with her two palomino stock horses.

“We need to be ready, we need to prepare well and be up for the result. In preparation the Bulls had an early training session this week, moving the normal Tuesday night session to Monday, so the boys could lift it a gear at training and have an extra 24 hours to recover for the match.

“Our training over the past 3-4 weeks has been outstanding. We are playing well come the weekend, just not getting the result,” Srhoj stated. The Reserves kick off at 6pm, Premiers at 8pm. The games will be held at Southside Comets new home ground at Walker Road, Edmonton.

A free information session will be held at Tepon Equestrian Park, Wondecla, on Saturday, July 29 for anyone interested in finding out more about the sport. The event is open to all to encourage newcomers to the sport and club. Guest speakers include Andrew Easton (Kuranda Veterinary Service), Sarah Holt (Balanced Saddle Fitting), Mark Thomas (Farrier), Angela Sausman (Mitavite Rep and OceanEasyStables) and Juanita Bosel (Barefoot Trimmer). The event is supported by Eacham Produce and BJMerino (pure wool saddlepads). Tips and hints will be given from FNERA endurance riders about all things endurance.
