[Title] Obeying with Love Obeying without Thought of Reward Love: The Purest Motivation to Obey [Kicker] If we truly love God, we will want to keep his commandments. We will obey without expecting God to reward us. [Highlights of the source article] Obedience to God’s commandments is essential to our success and happiness. We may not always understand his plan for us, but obeying his commandments is best for us. He gives us commandments because he loves us. The more we love God, the more willing we will be to keep his commandments. In her October 2015 General Conference talk entitled “If Ye Love Me, Keep My Commandments” [https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/10/if-ye-love-me-keep-mycommandments?lang=eng], Carole M. Stephens [https://www.lds.org/church/leader/carole-mstephens?lang=eng] teaches us that love is the best motivation for obedience. She explains that “his laws are a manifestation of His love for us and obedience to His laws is an expression of our love for him.” She also gives four principles that help us obey God’s commandments: Trust God By trusting in God, we can come to understand that he loves us and wants us to return home. Through the Atonement, he has provided a way for us to return to live with him. Understanding God’s plan makes us want to obey his commandments so that we can return home.

Margaret Willden 11/6/2015 6:18 PM Comment [3]: In general, this paragraph feels like it’s repeating several of the same ideas. Perhaps consider combining sentences.

Trust Jesus Each Sunday we have the opportunity to partake of the sacrament. We can use this time to remember the pure love that Christ has for us, and we can commit to show our love by keeping the commandments.

Comment [5]: Consider adding some sort of concluding paragraph to tie the four principles together.
