This hotel will bring the community more tourists which in turn generate more revenue.

Th hotel developer works alongside the design team throughout the duration of the project. They are the person who is funding the hotel project and makes the final decisions on things. They are concerned with the budget and finances, design and brand, and how the entire design and construction process is coming along.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

GOALS

REVIVE

revive is the inspiration behind the design. Gye Ahome Toa literally means, “rest and relaxation” in Twi, Ghana’s

The word

most widely spoken tribal language. The concept influences the idea of reviving the mind, the body and spirit. To revives one’s mind is through nature. Within each space one can find a lot of natural textures such as wood, bamboo and greenery which leads to calming people and putting their mind at ease. One of the goals for the design of this hotel is to bring the outside in.

To revive the body is through the spa treatments. The Udo Aho spa, literally means “to bring the body to peace”. In these spaces people will be able to relax and revive themselves while they experience one of two natural African practices. To revive the spirit comes through Accra’s culture. Within the design people can find African artwork, African motifs and patterns, as well as pops of the color red, symbolic of Ghana’s independence.

- Create an easily accessible space for all users; pay attention to universal design, ADA and capitalize on way-finding elements (ex: floor patterns). -Design a hotel that makes people feel comfortable and at ease; incorporate Ghana’s culture, warm tones and inviting common areas. -Use sustainable practices in material selection; bring the outside in and take advantage of Ghana’s views to the beaches, blend the interior with the exterior. -Pay attention to details, especially lighting, it can really set a mood. -Create a unique pattern of variety and rhythm between the spaces with unique African textiles and materials.

SECOND FLOOR The grand staircase leads guests up to the curved wall which is home to the host/hostess stand. From there, he guests will either be guided to the left for the bar and lounge area or to the right for the five star restaurant experience. Opposite of the stair opening sits a small elevator lobby for anyone who may be waiting for an availability at the bar or restaurant.

FIRST FLOOR The opening between the grand stair case is utilized as a reception desk. When guests enter Gye Ahome Toa they are immediately faced with this experience. The landing of the stairs has a live water feature wall beneath it, helping ground the reception desk, support the stairs, and create privacy for the lobby directly behind it. Underneath the straightaway of the stairs is a seating area that is a part of the lobby.

LOBBY This view is from the perspective of standing right behind the feature water wall. The lobby is grounded by a locally crafted ceiling fixture, which is a focal point within the space. The furniture itself reflects Africa’s local culture as it is made with natural materials like local woods and hand woven rope. The warm tones welcomes visitors from all over, creating comfort and the relaxing feel of a home away from home in the space. In addition, visitors will be able to view Ghana’s beaches from the windows in this area.

12

UDO AHU SPA

Gye Ahome Toa’s spa literally means, to bring your body to peace, and is a luxurious feature of this five star hotel as nothing else like this can be found in Ghana. The warm, golden, wood tones throughout the spaces are a reflection of Ghana’s local materials and culture.

AFRICAN STONE SPA ROOM In Africa’s culture, stones have a history of healing, thus Gye Ahome Toa is equipped with two hot stone spa treatment rooms. Hot stone massages provide a healing experience. Hot stones have a sedative effect that release chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep relaxation.

HAMMAM STEAM ROOM The Hamman African beauty ritual is originally founded in Morocco, in North-Western Africa. Back in the day this is how North African women purified their bodies and bonded with others. This bath is a combined sauna and spa experience where the steam of the room and argon oil infused spa will help provide guests with a physical and emotional detox.

13

SECOND FLOOR Guests of Gye Ahome Toa, or people whom are not staying here may enter the second floor through the grand staircase. Here they will immediately be faced with a host/hostess stand where they can be seated at the restaurant or pointed in th direction of the bar or lounge. RESTAURANT

This 5 star restaurant is home to some of Ghana’’s famous dishes such as the Red Red, Waakye and Kelewele. The overall design comes from the concept of the Makola Market. This market is set up in different sections; produce, manufactured and imported foods, clothing, shoes, tools, medicine and event pots and pans. Thus, the different seating areas reflect that of the different market sections. In addition, the furnishings and fixtures are handcrafted to reflect the natural craft being produced at the market and the textiles and upholsteries chosen reflect the those within the market as well.

BAR

The bar and lounge area is an intimate setting that is still able to reflect Ghana’s outside beauty. The bar and lounge are located overlooking the beach and that is why the materials reflect the outdoor nature, helping bring that culture from the outside, in.

COLORS AND CULTURE The guest rooms in Gye Ahome Toa are obviously concerned with reflecting Ghana’s culture. The neutral colors with hints of gold and red are important as they are reflected in Ghana’s national flag. The red is representative of the blood of those who died in the country’s struggle for Independence and the gold stands for mineral wealth, as the city was given the gold coast nickname when they found all of the gold mines. Lastly, each room will have a unique, subtle, placement of a start which is representative of the lodestar of African freedom.
