There is a Muisca creation myth that speaks about humans as a creation of the sun and the moon, built from the clay in the soil and brought to light through their existence.
This element, that allows permanence and meaning to an object and its relation with identity is what I aim to explore with my practice.
This imaginary played an important role in the Muisca vision that incorporated material and spiritual intent into their everyday objects, allowing these objects to maintain value and permanence of their own beyond their applications. The value that they still hold today as a window to the past and our history reflects the importance of creating from the material ground that surrounds us, and the possibilities that exist in objects of becoming part of ourselves.
My work is currently focused on understanding how our experience can be shaped into objects; and how these objects affect ourselves and others through the process of creating.

De Forma is an introspective journey through memory and territory. The project researches the transition that took place during the past century in Colombia where 70% of the population residing in the countryside began to migrate to and inhabit the urban areas of the country over the course of five decades (1940-1990). This process was experienced by my grandmother, and its remembrance has been kept alive by her material and photographic records. Such transition marks an important shift in the form and function of the objects kept and produced in Colombia until this day. By linking this geographical phenomenon to the contemporary context of the urbanized space, De Forma explores the possibilities of day-to-day materials and aims to remember and inspect the function of these rural-born objects.

From the homes built in adobe or Bahareque to the objects needed in the kitchen and home, clay has played a fundamental role in the materiality of daily life. Inspired by the adobe houses common in Colombia in the past, the first series reconfigures the practice of clay construction not only from its function and form but also from its materiality in the contemporary context. The project seeks to explore what are the possibilities of integrating into the design process the materials we use in our daily lives while investigating the notions of functionality and decoration that are part of these objects of the past.

Fique is the name of the vegetable fiber with which the cultural and economic warp of the department of Santander in Colombia has been formed. The guanes, before the arrival of the Spaniards, cultivated this plant and used its fiber in very different ways: with it, they covered and manufactured tools.

In Colombia, more than 114 species of plants are used to extract vegetable fibers, of which the most important are cotton and fique. Like clay, the use of plants for making filaments has been fundamental in the configuration of objects in rural spaces. The second series De Forma is given as a basic approach to the material possibilities of these fibers and the contrast they generate with the imaginary of their common uses, such as basketry.

The craft of creating is firmly linked to being, to experience. When we create, we look not only for meaning, but we build subjectivities. Black is the result of this search, an inspection of the universe that encloses an object in its breadth and interpretative possibilities. Through the creation of images and texts that start from the most intuitive thoughts to the personal notion of an object, the project aims to explore the possibilities that exist in the universes of personal meanings, as a base material for the creation of pieces of body ornament. The process of this project is divided into 3 parts. First, drawing as an approach to my visual experience about the signifiers of black in my life. Second, the writings that investigate this experience and connect it with the purpose of the project. Third, the form exploration that brings together the narratives and imaginary of the process.

Drawings The referents as indirect mechanisms to generate knowledge. This project uses movies as referents for the construction of an imaginary. Here the cinematographic medium allows coming into contact with different points of view that feed the creative process as sources of knowledge. Each feature film chosen is captured in drawings and writings that become key references for the creation of base content for the project.

the human affliction of existing, corporality is presented as an essential matter. Present in an environment of aggressions, the being is oppressed and bent in its matter. The somatic not only links the individual to the world but also subjects him to it. In this way, the project seeks to explore the relationship of violence that the being finds, as it is anchored to the world in its corporality and the role that crafts or design played in the creation of artifacts that exalt or perpetuate this somatic violence. Both pieces contain a ceramic inscription inside, that when used by large periods, inscribe on the skin the words exist and persist.
The basis of the project is given by the following writing that serves as a starting point for the conceptualization and creation of the pieces.

“Asymmetry is the absence of, or a violation of, symmetry. Symmetry is an important property of both physical and abstract systems and it may be displayed in precise terms or in more aesthetic terms.�
Object
Inspired by the brutalist ruins, Siluetas is a set of ceramic pieces that, through the slab building technique, explore the possibilities of construction from asymmetric shapes. The pieces play with the distortion of the flat baseline from which the ceramic slabs are constructed to find a point of physical and visual balance in their composition.

Ceramic Faux leather Woven - Knitted Cotton Faux leather Part of the exhibition “Independencia grita moda” made for the Arturo Calle showcases as a representative of Colombian independent fashion 2018
Founded in Bogotá in 2016, the brand appears in a limbo of temporalities and memories in which the past is blurred. SACRA remembers the sublime materiality of history and memory expressed in the grandmother’s home. This space full of portraits and ornaments constitutes a visual identity of the feeling, an altar of memory built from the detail and feminine disposition. The brand appropriates this material culture of nostalgia to create pieces with Bogotana identity. Oneness is created in reinterpretation. SACRA rescues the Bogota altar in its role of meanings. These emotional spaces, deconstructed in objects, keep the history and identities of people. The Transcendence becomes the heart of the brand, here the garments claim the monumental character of the body to transform itself into valuable pieces and the manual work recovers its importance as a creative act of the human essence.

Visual diary The visual basis of the project consists of a diary that explores the notions of the house altars in Bogotรก. From its objects to its imaginary the diary seeks through visual compositions to decompose the elements that configure these intimate spaces as a base for the construction of the wear pieces.
