BIG KAHUNA, continued NOTES, ABBREVIATIONS & TECHNIQUES:

SMALL

Pattern is written using US terms.

Rnd 1) Starting with a magic circle/adjustable ring (see page 1), work 7 sc in circle/ring, tighten, join with a sl st to first sc in rnd.

Hat is worked in the round. Do not turn work. A lot of patterns will begin a row/round of dc with ch 2 or ch 3. I found the following method creates a less noticeable seam when working in the round. Ch 1, sc in same, ch 1. Mark the last ch 1 as the first stitch/dc equivalent. sl st - slip stitch ch - chain sc - single crochet dc - double crochet Rnd - round Magic circle/Adjustable ring For a picture tutorial, see: http://crochetbydarleenhopkins.com/2013/01/23/ magic-circle-aka-adjustable-ring-how-to/

Make it your own! String letter beads and spell out fun or inspirational words and attach to the sc rnds. If the beads slide too much, attach each separately. Get the Kids Involved! They can help pick out what they want the hat to say and help string the beads. Suggestions: Child’s name, Love, Let it snow, Rock Star or Big Kahuna. Or, make the hat in school spirit colors and add the school’s name or sport. European charms (Pandora style) look great too! This hat, at left, was made for Halos of Hope and donated for a dog themed hat collection. Copyright
